SummerStation64 v0.3c
SummerStation64 v0.3c
☀️ A themeable game menu for the SummerCart64, built on a real N64 and a CRT. ☀️
v0.3c brings fixes and small wishes from your reports before v0.4:
cleaner box art (the thin black frame many scans carry is trimmed away),
long game names that slide so you can read them whole, adding a folder
to the Games tab that works the way you'd expect (the highlighted folder,
and the folders inside it), and South Park: Chef's Love Shack is no longer
taken for a hack. It also includes v0.3b's fix for Settings lists.
Everything v0.3a brought is below: cheats you can switch on and off from
Game info (with codes for 1,300+ games in the Companion), rename files on
the console, a Hacks tab and any collection as a tab, 50 favorites
with a favorite button on every cover, simpler menus, START straight to
Settings, a screenshot button that suits the 8BitDo mod kit, easier 64DD
pairing, and step-by-step guides. Thank you to everyone who tried v0.3 and
wrote in!
New here? Everything v0.3 brought (3D boxes and cartridges, collections, the
letter dial, the Retro and Homebrew tabs, party mode, clips) is in the
v0.3 release notes.
Tip
Quick start: download sc64menu.n64 from the Assets below, copy it
to the top folder of your SD card, switch on. Covers and game details are
built in.
Note
Coming from v0.3, v0.3a or v0.3b? Copy the new sc64menu.n64 over the old one; your
settings, favorites, collections and save backups stay. START now opens
Settings at once. What the old START menu held is in Settings: Information
(menu, flashcart and N64 information) and System (Controller Pak Manager,
Clock).
🔧 New and fixed in v0.3c
- No more black frames round the covers. About half the covers in the
metadata pack carry a thin near-black border from the scan, which showed
as dark lines down the edges of the cover and the 3D box. The menu now
trims it, only lines that are near-black all the way across and never
more than a few pixels, so covers that are black by design keep their
look. Built-in covers come trimmed; covers from your SD card are trimmed
as they load, using no extra memory. Settings > Display > Trim Black
Edges switches it off for covers from the card. - Long names slide. On the rows of covers, a name too long for the panel
under them waits two seconds, slides to its end, and slides back.
Settings > Display > Scroll Long Names; off cuts it short with "...". - Adding folders to the Games tab. Highlight a folder on the Folders tab
and press Z: the menu now offers Add "that folder" to Games (it used to
add the folder you were standing in). The games in the folders inside
it show too, one level down, soN64 Games/RPG/comes along with
N64 Games. The Z menu only offers what applies (no Add for a folder
already there, no Remove for one that isn't), and a folder marked as
holding hacks covers its subfolders. - South Park: Chef's Love Shack no longer gets the Hack badge: the word
"hack" now has to start a word in the file name. - Settings lists (any setting with more than four values, such as Theme)
show every value from the top and scroll with the cursor (v0.3b). - "Watchdog timeout" at power-on is explained under Installing below.
- The credits screen's L|Z pop-up says where to donate (see Free, always).

- Update your SummerCart64's firmware if it is old, and back up your
sc64menu.n64. - Art Edition: copy
sc64menu.n64from the Assets to the top folder of
your SD card. Standard: unzipSummerStation64-v0.3c-Standard.zipand
copy thesc64menu.n64inside; for covers, put the
metadata pack
insd:/menu/metadata/. - Switch the N64 on.
Warning
"Watchdog timeout" at power-on? The SummerCart64 gives the menu file 5
seconds to load. On a card that has been used for a while, the Art Edition
(about 33 MB) can be scattered across it and take longer. Copy your files
off, reformat the card (FAT32 or exFAT, for example with the SD
Association's SD Card Formatter), and copy sc64menu.n64 back first,
then everything else. If it still happens, use the Standard edition:
it loads as fast as the stock menu.
New to SummerStation64? The Companion's
Guide
walks through setting up a card, including adding your game folders.
🕹️ Retro games: where their pictures go
NES, SNES and Game Boy games need the menu's emulators in menu/emulators/
(see N64FlashcartMenu's documentation). Their pictures are read from the SD
card, one folder per game, named after the game's file without its
extension:
menu/metadata/nes/Super Mario Bros. (World)/boxart_front.png
boxart_back.png
boxart_spine.png
gamepak_front.png (see-through background)
gamepak_back.png
metadata.ini, description.txt
snes, gb and gbc work the same way. The Companion's Missing Metadata
tab puts everything in the right place for you.
🎞️ Making a GIF
- On the console: Settings > System, choose Clip Length, Clip Size
and Clip Frame Rate, then press A on Record Clip and leave
Settings. - After three ticks it records; a sound says when it is done. Half size at
15 frames a second records a 10-second clip in about a minute and a half;
full size at 30 takes about ten minutes. - Put the card in your computer, open the
Companion's Clips tab,
choose the card and the clip, and press Make GIF.

⚠️ Known limitations
- Going back to an older menu (v0.3 or the stock N64FlashcartMenu) keeps
only your first 8 favorites, and drops the rest the next time it saves. - Emulator games (NES, SNES, Game Boy) can't be favorited: the Favorites
list has no place for them yet. - Cheats: codes that need a button held (starting D0 to D3) may not work
yet, and the menu reads up to 64 code lines per game. Some games, mostly new
homebrew, can't take cheats at all. - Collection tabs point to a collection by its place: reordering or deleting
your own collections in the Companion can change which one a tab shows
(deleting on the console keeps them right). - Renaming a hack set up in the Companion's Hacks tab without Card Prep
having been run breaks its link (it is matched by file name then); save the
Hacks tab again. - Tested on: every build on an NTSC N64 on a CRT, with an Expansion Pak
and with a Jumper Pak (4MB). Players report it working on the Analogue 3D,
the ModRetro M64 and PAL consoles, thank you! - Party mode has been tested with a stand-in for extra controllers, not
with four real ones yet. Reports welcome. - Recording a clip is slow (each frame is saved as it is drawn); the clip
itself is smooth. - With Game Versions on Grouped, Pokémon Stadium and the Snap Station
kiosk version share one cover (they share a game code). - Saves of 64DD disks are not backed up. Other flashcarts are not supported.

SummerStation64 v0.3b
☀️ A themeable game menu for the SummerCart64, built on a real N64 and a CRT. ☀️
v0.3b is a small fix to v0.3a: Settings lists with 5 to 8 values
(Theme, for one) could open scrolled past their top, showing "From SD Card"
more than once and hiding the cursor. They now always show every value and
follow the cursor. Nothing else changed.

✨ What's new
🎯 Cheats
- Codes for your games: the Companion's new
Cheats tab
fetches GameShark / Action Replay codes from
libretro-database (lists for
over 1,300 N64 games, found by your copy's exact dump with Card Prep, else by
its name), or takes codes you paste. Tick the ones you want and save: they go
beside the game asGame.datel. - Switch them on and off on the console: a game with cheats shows Z
Cheats on its Game info. A switches a cheat on (green ✓) or off (grey);
B closes the list and saves. Any cheat on turns Use Cheats on for the
game, all off turns it off. - Cheats now run without opening the Datel Code Editor: the menu reads the
game's cheat file as it starts the game (before, Use Cheats alone started it
with no codes, or the last game's). - Cheats need the Expansion Pak; without one the list says so first.
✏️ Rename files
- Folders tab, Z, Rename... on any file. The name is typed with the letter
dial, now with four pages (A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and symbols ( ) [ ] - _ ' . , &
! +, C-up / C-down) and a cursor (L / R). START renames; B at the start
cancels; a name already in the folder is refused. - Everything goes with it: its save (also in the saves folder) and dated save
backups, per-game settings, cheats and details, a Retro game's art folder, and
what the menu remembers: play counts and time played, favorites and recent,
your collections, hidden games, 64DD pairs and Card Prep's ✓. - Collection names use the same dial: small letters and symbols, kept as
typed (no more forced Title Case).
🗂️ Tabs
- A Hacks tab (Settings > Tabs): every ROM hack, on a tab of its own.
- Any collection as a tab: each of the four places can hold one of your own
collections, a series or a multiplayer one. It opens straight onto its covers;
a long name ends in "…" on the bar. - Hacks on Games: Hide (Settings > Library) keeps hacks off the Games tab,
like Homebrew on Games below. - Settings with many choices open a list to pick from (the tab places, Sort
By, Theme) instead of stepping through them one press at a time.
⭐ Favorites
- Up to 50 favorites (was 8).
- Favorite a game from its cover: press Z on any cover tab and choose
Add to Favorites (or Remove from Favorites). No need to open Game
info first.
🧭 Simpler menus
- Z on a cover (Games, Homebrew, Retro, Recent, Favorites and inside a
collection) now offers just: Random game, Add to Favorites, Game info,
Add to collection, Hide this game. File tools (delete, properties, the
folder options) stay on the Folders tab, where they belong. - Game info opens the right page for 64DD disks and Retro games from Z too.
- START opens Settings straight away. A new Information category holds
the menu, flashcart and N64 information screens; the Controller Pak
Manager and the Clock are in System. Each comes back to Settings. - Advanced Game Options (Settings > System, off by default): Set CIC Type,
Set Save Type, Set TV Type, the Datel Code Editor and Clear RDRAM on boot
leave Game info's Options unless you switch this on. Choices you made before
still apply.
📸 Screenshot button
- Settings > System > Screenshot Button: Hold START (as before) or
Hold L + R for a second, for controllers whose START is their power
button, such as the 8BitDo mod kit. With L + R, L and R switch tabs when
you let go, so holding both never flicks between tabs. - Every controller port now works the same way (port 2's instant START
screenshot from testing is gone).
🍺 Homebrew
- Settings > Library > Homebrew on Games: Hide keeps homebrew on the
Homebrew tab only. Folders, Recent, Favorites and your own collections still
show it. Show stays the default.
💾 64DD disks
- Pair a disk where you are: press Z on the disk's Game info (or on the
"needs its cartridge" warning) to choose its cartridge. The list names what
Automatic finds and puts the matching cartridges first, in blue. - The disk's info page says what it plays with: Plays with F-Zero X (green),
Disk alone (grey) or Needs (not found) (orange). - L (or Options, Play the disk alone) starts the disk without its
cartridge.
🧰 The Companion
- Cheats tab (see above), with games and codes in pages of 50.
- Missing Metadata finds
menu/missingart.txtwhichever folder you pick
(the top of the card, or themenufolder) and works better in Firefox. - New Guide sections:
Adding box art and details, step by step
64DD disks and their cartridge
and Cheats.

SummerStation64 v0.3
SummerStation64 v0.3
☀️ A themeable game menu for the SummerCart64, built on a real N64 and a CRT. ☀️
v0.3 "organizing" turns your covers into 3D boxes and cartridges, and
gives a big library some order: collections, a letter dial to find a game,
one cover per game with its hacks and other regions' copies tucked
underneath, a Homebrew tab, a Retro tab for NES, SNES and Game Boy games,
64DD disks that start with their cartridge, a party mode, and clips of the
menu you can turn into animated GIFs.
Tip
Quick start: download sc64menu.n64 from the Assets below, copy it
to the top folder of your SD card, switch on. Covers and game details are
built in.
Note
Coming from v0.2? Copy the new sc64menu.n64 over the old one. Your
settings, favourites, play counts and save backups stay as they are. The
new tabs (Collections, Homebrew, Retro) are not on the bar until you add
them in Settings > Tabs. Hide Region Tags is now on by default
(names show without "(U)", "(Europe)"); turn it off in Settings > Display
if you prefer them. Angled Side Covers is now off by default (flat side
covers); a choice you made yourself stays.
Important
As always: back up your SD card, and keep your current sc64menu.n64
so you can go back.
✨ What's new
📦 3D boxes and cartridges
- The selected cover is a little 3D box, turned slightly and seen from
above, with its top label and spine. It hovers gently (Settings >
Display > Box Hover: float, sway, both or off). - Hold B and use the stick to turn it round and look at every side.
Up and down turn it over to the back. - Show Games As: Cartridges shows the cartridge instead of the box, as a
3D cartridge with its own plastic color, a circuit board in its slot and a
back to turn over to. - 3D Side Covers (optional) makes the covers either side boxes too.
- Fill Box Edges: a box with only a top label or a spine shows it on its
other edges too, turned to fit (Settings > Display; on by default).
🗂️ Finding your way around a big library
- Letter dial: hold Z on the covers and point the stick at a letter
to jump straight to the games starting with it. Press A to spell further
("SU", "SUP"), B to take a letter back. A tap of Z still opens Options. - Collections tab (add it in Settings > Tabs): your games grouped as
cards, each showing a fan of its covers. 18 series are found
automatically (Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, Banjo, ...), and multiplayer
ones by number of players, co-op and versus. Make your own from any
game's Z menu ("Add to collection..."), named with the letter dial, or on
your computer with the Companion. - Game Versions: Grouped (Settings > Library): an original, its hacks and
extra copies share one cover; A opens a list to choose which to start. - Region Copies: One Cover: a game's USA, Europe and Japan copies share
one cover too, chosen by your Preferred Region. Start another region's
copy three times in a row and it becomes that game's cover. - Sort By Recently Added, with a New badge for a month on games you
just put on the card. - Hide a game from the cover tabs with Z ("Hide this game"). It stays on
the card; the Folders tab can show it again.
🎮 More kinds of games
- Homebrew tab: homebrew games on a shelf of their own.
- Retro tab: NES, SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Color games (played
with the menu's emulators) leave the Games tab for a shelf of their own,
with C-up / C-down to pick a system. Each system's covers have its own box
shape, and pictures, spines and cartridges can be added per game. - 64DD pairing: an expansion disk starts together with its
cartridge (the F-Zero X Expansion Kit with F-Zero X) when you press A.
The pair is found automatically, or chosen with Z ("Pair with a
cartridge..."). Starting one without its cartridge asks first. - 64DD and Retro game info now looks like an N64 game's: cover,
description, developer, date, genre, players, play counts and pictures. - Time played for every game, shown in Game info's Played box.
🎉 Party mode
With two or more controllers plugged in, C-up / C-down on the Games tab
offer Party: only the games for that many players. Random game picks
among them. Four small controller ports under the clock show which are in
use (Settings > Display > Controller Marks).
📸 Screenshots and clips
- Hold START for a second to take a screenshot with one controller
(START on controller 2 still works too). Screenshots are now
compressed, at full or half size, with the console's fine dot pattern
smoothed out or kept (Settings > System). - Record Clip (Settings > System): leave Settings, and after three ticks
the menu records 5, 10 or 15 seconds of whatever you do. It saves frame by
frame, so the console runs slowly while recording, but the clip plays back
at full speed. The Companion turns it into an animated GIF.
🧰 The Companion
kerillian0.github.io/SummerStation64/companion
has four new tabs:
- Hacks: give a hack its own name, cover and details, so it shows as a
game of its own; suggestions from a list of over 100 popular hacks. - Missing Metadata: on the console, Settings > Library > Find Missing
Metadata lists what your games lack. This tab fills it in: pictures from
your own files, developer, date, genre, players and descriptions, also for
64DD and Retro games, with a fit editor (zoom, move and turn each
picture in the exact shape of its face on the 3D box) and an option to use
a top label or spine for the box's other edges too. It can fill details by
itself from libretro's
database, or from a LaunchBoxMetadata.zipyou download yourself. - Collections: make and edit your own collections with a keyboard.
- Clips: turn a recorded clip into a GIF.
🛠️ Also new
- Confirmation prompts show the action in red and Keep in green.
- Names hide
[!]marks and revision numbers too, with Hide Game Extensions.

metadata.ini, description.txt
snes, gb and gbc work the same way.
Half size at
15 frames a second records a 10-second clip in about a minute and a half;
full size at 30 takes about ten minutes. - Put the card in your computer, open the
Companion's Clips tab,
choose the card and the clip, and press Make GIF.

SummerStation64 v0.2
SummerStation64 v0.2
☀️ A themeable game menu for the SummerCart64, built on a real N64 and a CRT. ☀️
v0.2 "smooth and safe" brings a web Companion with a Card Prep tool,
check marks for known good dumps, full game descriptions, players and
co-op/versus, new themes, angled side covers, and 300 KB more free memory.
It is now based on N64FlashcartMenu V0.3.5.
Tip
Quick start: download sc64menu.n64 from the Assets below, copy it
to the top folder of your SD card, switch on. Covers and game details are
built in.
Note
Coming from v0.1? Copy the new sc64menu.n64 over the old one. Your
settings, favourites, play counts and save backups stay as they are.
The built-in Night Drive theme is replaced by Midnight, which is
now the default look (Sunset is still in the list); your own theme.ini
still comes first.
Important
As always: back up your SD card, and keep your current sc64menu.n64
so you can go back.
✨ What's new
🧰 The SummerStation64 Companion
kerillian0.github.io/SummerStation64/companion,
one web page with three tabs, nothing to install:
- Theme Maker: design a theme with a live preview of the menu, save it
astheme.ini, or share it as a short code. - Card Prep: checks every game on your SD card against No-Intro's list of
known good dumps and saves the result for the menu (see below). Your games
never leave your computer. - Guide: SD card setup, hardware tips (Expansion Pak or Jumper Pak, SD
cards, TV connections), handy tools, and troubleshooting.
✅ Dump check marks
After running Card Prep, each game gets a small mark in the corner of its
title panel and on its info screen:
| Mark | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 🟢 ✓ Verified | exactly a known good dump |
| 🟠 ? Not verified | the file differs from the known dump. Often harmless (an old tool changed a header byte, or the file is padded); if the game misbehaves, try another copy |
| 🔴 ✗ Bad dump | the file name marks it as a bad dump ([b]) |
Hacks, translations and fixed dumps get no mark. Turn the marks off under
Settings > Display > Dump Check Marks.
📖 Game info
- Full descriptions. The metadata pack's short descriptions stop
mid-sentence; v0.2 shows each game's whole description, built into the
menu (278 games). - Long descriptions scroll slowly after 10 seconds, or straight away with
the D-Pad or stick (Settings > Display > Scroll Descriptions). - Players and how they play together: "1-4, versus", "1-4, co-op" or
"1-4, co-op/vs", and a players badge on the cover rows. The menu knew
no player counts before. - Genre next to the release date and developer.
🎨 Look
- New built-in themes: Midnight (the new default), Mint Grid and
Grape, alongside Sunset, Beach and Ocean. - Angled side covers: with Previous/Next Covers on, the side covers turn
away like boxes on a shelf and sit further from the screen's edge
(Settings > Display > Angled Side Covers; off gives flat covers). - Lighter backgrounds: themes are now drawn fresh every frame instead of
being kept as a 300 KB picture. That frees 300 KB of memory (most
welcome on 4MB) and the graphics chip has a little more time to spare.
🛠️ Also new
- Screenshots: press START on a controller in port 2 to save the
screen tomenu/screenshots/(Settings > System > Screenshots). - The Hack badge and dump marks now show on the Recent and Favorites
tabs too. - From N64FlashcartMenu V0.3.5: a message at start-up when the cart
reports too low a supply voltage, autoload fixes, and newer libdragon and
libraries. - Bug reports: New issue
now opens a short form that asks for your setup.

New to SummerStation64? The Companion's
Guide
walks through setting up a card, including adding your game folders.
✅ Checking your games with Card Prep
- Put the SD card in your computer and open the
Companion's Card Prep tab
in Chrome or Edge. - Click Choose SD card and pick the card's top folder (allow access).
- Click Check games. Every game is read in full, so a full card takes a
minute or two; next time only new games are read. - Click Save to card. This writes
menu/verified.txt, which the menu
reads at start-up.
Firefox and Safari can check the card too, then give you verified.txt to
copy into the card's menu folder yourself.

⚠️ Known limitations
- Tested on: every build on an NTSC N64 on a CRT, with an Expansion Pak
and with a Jumper Pak (4MB). Players have reported v0.1 working on the
Analogue 3D and the ModRetro M64, thank you! PAL consoles haven't
been reported yet; reports from any setup are very welcome. - Players and genres come from libretro's database and may be wrong for a
few games. The co-op/versus notes were written by hand for about 40
multiplayer games so far; others show the player count only. Corrections
are welcome in an issue. - Card Prep needs Chromium or Edge to save straight onto the card.
- The Grape theme's checker pattern can't be drawn live, so it keeps the
older 300 KB background picture (like Ocean). On a 4MB console with the
Full character set these two leave the least memory to spare; the other
themes are the lighter choice there. - A few Japanese games share a code with another region's game and can show
its cover (for example Dezaemon 3D). A fix is planned. - Saves of 64DD disks are not backed up. Other flashcarts are not supported.
🤖 AI disclosure
SummerStation64 is made with Claude, an AI model by Anthropic, used
through Claude Code inside Visual Studio Code.
- Model: Claude Opus 5.5, as recorded on the commits.
- How much, in v0.2: 27 of the 29 commits since v0.1 are co-authored by
Claude (October 20 to 21, 2026): about 1,250 lines of menu code (6 new
source files), the Companion page, the build and data scripts, the tests,
and the documentation, these notes included. Two were the owner's own
edits to the README on GitHub. - What the owner (Kerillian) did: chose what v0.2 should hold and in what
order, made every decision along the way (the dump marks' colours and
wording, the themes, the Companion's tabs and guides, what to credit and
how), and tested every build on a real N64 and CRT, reporting back
with photos and debug logs. Nothing was committed until it passed on the
console. - The data: genres and player counts come from libretro-database; the
co-op/versus notes were drafted by Claude and checked by the owner. - Not made by AI: the music and interface sounds, the fonts, the box art
and game details (a community pack), the game data (libretro), and
N64FlashcartMenu and libdragon, which this is built on. Icons and the title
picture are drawn by small programs Claude wrote, not by an
image-generating AI.

SummerStation64 v0.1
☀️ A themeable game menu for the SummerCart64, built for a real N64 and a CRT! ☀️
SummerStation64 is an unofficial game menu for the SummerCart64, made as
a fork of N64FlashcartMenu
(based on its V0.3.4). It turns the file list into a row of game covers,
with tabs, themes, badges, save backups and an intro.
Tip
Quick start: download sc64menu.n64 from the Assets below, copy it
to the top folder of your SD card, switch on. Covers and game details are
built in.
Important
This is a first release. Back up your SD card, and keep your current
sc64menu.n64 somewhere safe so you can go back.
Note
💬 Feedback wanted! This is the first release, and I'd love to hear
how it runs on your console: what works, what doesn't, and what you'd
like to see next.
Please open an issue
with your console setup (Expansion Pak or Jumper Pak, NTSC or PAL) and,
if something went wrong, a photo of the screen.
--Please test on Analogue 3D! I don't have one and need some testers for it!--
--I'd like to create an exclusive theme for it. Sounds, Theme, and Analogue 3D check in the top right.--

✨ What's new compared with N64FlashcartMenu
🎮 Browsing
- Your games as a row of box covers that slide left and right, with
optional smaller covers either side. Up/down turns a box over to its back. - Tabs along the top: Games, Favorites, Folders, and optionally Recent.
Choose which appear, and in what order, under Settings > Tabs. L and R
switch between them, and each tab goes back to the game it was left on. - Games shows only games, gathered from as many folders as you like.
- Filter the Games tab with C-up / C-down: All, USA, Japan, Europe,
64DD or Hacks. - 🎲 Random game: press Z on Games, Recent or Favorites.
- Sort by name, recently played, release date or developer
(Settings > Library > Sort By). - Folders is a plain file browser for everything else: pictures, music,
text, zips. - Optional wrap-around: the last game sits left of the first.
🏷️ Game info
- Badges under each game's name: players, Expansion Pak, save found, and
the accessories it uses (Controller Pak, Rumble Pak, Transfer Pak; shown
as blue boxes, grey words or not at all: Settings > Display > Accessory
Badges). - A screen per game: the cover over a blurred copy of itself, a large
title, times played and when, and the description. START shows the
technical details. - The ring round the cover takes the colour of the box art.
- Japanese (tall) and 64DD covers keep their own shape.
🛠️ ROM hacks
- Hacks get an orange Hack badge and their own step in the filter.
- A file counts as a hack when its name says so ("hack", "redux", or a
[h1]-style tag), or when it shares its game code with the original but
its name is a different game ("Super Mario 64 - Return to Yoshi's Island"
next to "Super Mario 64"). Two copies of the same game under slightly
different names are not called hacks.
🎨 Look and sound
- Four built-in summer themes (Sunset, Night Drive, Beach, Ocean), or
your owntheme.ini. - An intro with a spinning logo and a tune, and a fade-in at start-up.
Both can be changed or turned off. - Rounded corners, coloured button icons, a favourite heart, and a memory
badge showing whether an Expansion Pak is fitted. - Background music chosen to suit the menu.
🛡️ Comfort and safety
- 💾 Save backups: each time you start a game, the menu keeps its save
from before, by date. Up to five per game, never the same one twice. To
go back, open the game's Options and choose Restore save; the save you
have is kept too, so you can change your mind. - Quick Launch (tap A to start) or Hold A To Launch, if you want
either. - Tidy names: no file endings, "Legend of Zelda, The" shown as "The
Legend of Zelda". Your files are never renamed. - Play counts and "last played".
- Safe mode: hold Z while switching on to start without your theme
and settings. - Settings are saved safely, so switching off at the wrong moment can't
break them. A friendly screen replaces the crash dump if the menu fails. - Low on memory? The menu leaves a few extras out instead of stopping
(side cover art, the intro's title picture). Settings > System > Memory
shows what is free and what was left out.

Both are the same menu. Choose Standard if you want to use your own box
art or prefer the small download. You can switch at any time by copying the
other file over it.
⭐ Art Edition
- Update your SummerCart64's firmware if it is old.
- Back up your menu: copy
sc64menu.n64from the top folder of your SD
card to your computer. - Download
sc64menu.n64from the Assets below. - Copy it to the top folder of your SD card, replacing the old one. The
name must stay exactlysc64menu.n64. - Switch the N64 on. The intro plays, then the Games tab opens.
Standard
- Update the firmware and back up your menu, as above.
- Download
SummerStation64-v0.1-Standard.zipand unzip it. Inside is
a file already namedsc64menu.n64. - Copy that
sc64menu.n64to the top folder of your SD card. - Add the metadata pack for covers: download it from the
n64-flashcart-menu-metadata releases
and extract it so its folders sit insd:/menu/metadata/(for example
sd:/menu/metadata/N/G/E/E/). If you used box art with the stock menu,
it is already there. - Switch the N64 on.
Note
With the metadata pack on the card, either edition also shows the box's
sides and top on the game info screen. To go back to the stock menu, copy
your backed-up sc64menu.n64 onto the card the same way.
🚀 First steps
Adding your games
The Games tab starts with your start folder (the folder the stock menu
opened in). To add more, for example one per region and one for 64DD disks:
- Press R until you reach the Folders tab.
- Go into the folder that holds the games.
- Press Z and choose Add this folder to Games.
To take a folder out again, choose Remove this folder from Games in the
same place. Settings > Library shows how many folders are added and can
forget them all. To change the start folder itself, go into it on the
Folders tab, press Z and choose Set current directory as default.
Good to know
- The first browse is the slowest. The menu notes which file is which
game (insd:/menu/gameindex.txt), so covers and badges come up faster
afterwards. Leave the Games tab still for a few seconds and it reads the
games it doesn't know yet by itself. - Region filter: a game's region comes from its game code, or from tags
in the file name such as(U),(J),(E),(USA)or(Japan). Until
the menu has read a game, one with no tag in its name shows only under
"All". - Without covers (Standard edition, no metadata pack) a cover shows the
game's name. The
N64FlashcartMenu box art page
explains how the metadata folder is laid out.
