OpenXR Specification 1.1.63 (2026-09-01)

This release adds two substantial ratified multi-vendor extensions,
XR_EXT_spatial_container and XR_EXT_spatial_container_self_rendering, which
together expand the scope of experiences possible with OpenXR. It also includes
another ratified multi-vendor extension for spatial entity image tracking, as
well as a small ratified Khronos extension to improve a developer convenience
function. Several more single vendor extensions are also included, as well as a
number of cleanups and improvements to the specification.

  • New ratified multi-vendor extension specifications: XR_EXT_spatial_container,
    XR_EXT_spatial_container_self_rendering to allow apps to switch between
    immersive (full-screen) or bounded, allow multiple simultaneous apps, and
    enable the system to control the position of each of the "containers" the apps
    are in.

  • New ratified Khronos extension specification:
    XR_KHR_extended_result_name_lengths adds a new variant of the
    xrResultToString() function which supports XrResult name lengths of up to
    256 characters.
