OpenXR Specification 1.1.48 (2025-06-03)

This release contains a substantial amount of clarification and cleanup to the
specification that does not change its normative content, but makes it clearer
and easier to understand for both runtime and application developers. It also
includes several new vendor extensions.

  • Specification
    • Change: Update spec language for xrDownloadSharedSpatialAnchorCompleteBD in
      XR_BD_spatial_anchor_sharing, incrementing the revision.
      (internal MR 3855)
    • Clarify: More precisely specify the ranges used in the loader API interfaces.
      (internal MR 3118)
    • Clarify: Device disconnected does not necessarily imply XR_NULL_PATH as
      current interaction profile.
      (internal MR 3180)
    • Clarify: Improve the distinction between an input/interaction subpath (part of
a binding path, is appended to a top level /user path) and an "input source"
which is a logical entity at the runtime level not accessible directly through
      the API.
      (internal MR 3198)
    • Fix: Minor markup errors and typos in XR_EXT_performance_settings.
      (internal MR 3825)
    • Fix: Remove outdated, incorrect mention of 'elements' in
      XrViewConfigurationProperties.
      (internal MR 3846)
    • Improvement: Document the XR_USE_PLATFORM_EGL preprocessor symbol.
      (internal MR 2986)
    • Improvement: Normalize, cleanup, and re-organize the graphics binding
extensions, improving usability and readability of the specification without
      making normative changes.
      (internal MR 3028,
      internal MR 3742)
    • Improvement: Clarify and correct references to sRGB: the specification is
referring primarily to the sRGB non-linear encoding in the relevant section,
not technically the color space of the same name.
      (internal MR 3663)
    • New vendor extension specification:
      XR_META_simultaneous_hands_and_controllers allows application feedback on
whether the runtime should continue to track controllers when not held.
      (internal MR 2755)
    • New vendor extension specification: XR_META_body_tracking_full_body defining
a new joint set including the legs for the corresponding vendor body tracking
      base extension.
      (internal MR 2961)
    • New vendor extension specification: XR_BD_future_progress provides access to
      progress of incomplete async operations.
      (internal MR 3724)
