Upgrading from 1.x

Pavel Erokhin edited this page Oct 19, 2026 · 1 revision

Mo’Bosses 2 loads your 1.x files and your database as they are. Players keep their levels. This page lists what changed and what to copy over.

Steps

  1. Back up plugins/MoBosses/.
  2. Replace the old jar with the new one (Installation) and restart.
  3. Read the log: it names any value it couldn’t use.
  4. Go through the changes below and copy what you want from the bundled files.

What changed

  • Messages. messages.yml is no longer read. Messages live in lang/, one file per language (Languages). Their switches moved to broadcast in config.yml, and the kill sound to kill_sound.
  • The default language. language: ru in config.yml still sets it, until you set locales.default.
  • Fixed names. A name in bosses.yml or minions.yml, or a display_name in classes.yml, shows to everyone as before. Remove it to use the names in lang/, each player in their own language.
  • Loot names. Loot with title and lore works the same; the bundled loot uses id instead (Loot and rewards).
  • Boss bars. boss_bar.style takes NOTCHED_20 and the like; SEGMENTED_20 still works.
  • New bosses and abilities. An old bosses.yml lacks the bosses 2.1 added, and an old classes.yml the levels for its new abilities, which stay off until you add them.

Get the new parts

The jar holds the bundled files, and plugins/MoBosses/ gets one whenever it’s missing. To see the new defaults next to yours:

  1. Rename your bosses.yml to bosses.old.yml.
  2. Run /mobosses reload. A fresh bosses.yml appears.
  3. Copy your changes from bosses.old.yml into it, and run /mobosses reload again.

Do the same for classes.yml and abilities.yml.

The changelog lists what 2.0 fixed and everything since.
