SDG Goals Associated
This project aligns primarily with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, as it focuses on improving accessibility in digital gaming for individuals with physical disabilities. By replacing traditional controllers with EMG-based muscle signal input, NeuroPixel enables users with limited mobility (such as those with spinal cord injuries, ALS, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, stroke paralysis, or limb loss) to participate independently in gaming. This reduces exclusion from recreational and social digital experiences and promotes equal access to entertainment and interactive technologies.
It also strongly supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, as the system encourages therapeutic interaction through EMG-based gameplay. Repeated voluntary muscle activation can help maintain residual neuromuscular activity, while fast-paced arcade games improve attention, reaction time, and cognitive engagement. The system also supports mental well-being by providing enjoyable, stress-reducing interactive entertainment that can be used in both rehabilitation and assistive contexts.
Additionally, it contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by demonstrating an affordable and scalable assistive technology solution using EMG sensors, embedded microcontrollers (Arduino/ESP32), and real-time signal processing. NeuroPixel showcases innovation in human-computer interaction by converting biological muscle signals into digital game commands, promoting the development of inclusive, low-cost assistive gaming systems and advancing accessible technology infrastructure.
