Merging with ItemsAdder

ItemsAdder builds one resource pack out of every plugin's content and sends that. HUDEngine can write its assets straight into ItemsAdder's content folder, so the HUD arrives inside that pack instead of as a second one. Available since 1.1.

Setup

1. In HUDEngine's config.yml, point the export at an ItemsAdder content folder and stop HUDEngine sending a pack of its own:

pack:
  export-folder: "plugins/ItemsAdder/contents/hudengine/resourcepack"

resource-pack:
  delivery: none

The path ends in resourcepack. ItemsAdder looks for assets/ inside it, and HUDEngine writes assets/ there.

2. Turn off the ItemsAdder features that replace the text shader. In ItemsAdder's config.yml:

effects:
  hide-scoreboard-numbers: false
  hide-scoreboard-numbers-old-clients: false
  text-effects:
    enabled: false

Older ItemsAdder versions call the last one text_effects.enabled. HUDEngine warns at startup if it finds any of these on.

3. Run /hudengine reload, then /iazip so ItemsAdder rebuilds its pack with the HUD inside.

Repeat step 3 after every HUD change: HUDEngine updates the folder, but only ItemsAdder can rebuild its own pack.

Why the ItemsAdder effects have to go

The HUD is drawn by a replacement text shader. ItemsAdder's text effects and scoreboard-number hiding work the same way, by replacing that very file. A pack can only hold one, so whichever is merged last wins and the other stops working, with no error from either plugin.

One version per pack

HUDEngine's own pack serves every client from 1.21.4 to 26.3 by carrying a shader for each, in overlay folders the client picks between. Not every merging plugin carries another plugin's overlays over, so the export puts a single shader in assets/: the one for the server's own Minecraft version.

Players joining with a different client version — through ViaVersion, for instance — will not see the HUD. The console names the version the export was built for:

Exporting assets to plugins/ItemsAdder/contents/hudengine/resourcepack with the shader for Minecraft 1.21.11.

What the export touches

Only files it wrote itself. Each export records them in .hudengine-export inside the folder, and the next one removes exactly those that are no longer produced. Anything else in the folder, and every other ItemsAdder content folder, is left alone.

An export folder inside plugins/HUDEngine is refused — build/ aside — because assets/ there holds your own source images.

If it does not show up

  • Nothing changed in game. /iazip was not run after the reload, or players have not rejoined since.
  • The HUD is missing and text looks normal. An ItemsAdder text effect is still on; check the startup warning.
  • Merge order. If another content folder also ships a text shader, the order in ItemsAdder's contents-folders-priorities decides which one ends up in the pack. See their merge guide.
