LiveNBT v0.5.0: Minecraft 26.3 support

LiveNBT now targets Minecraft Java 26.3.

Changed

  • Updated for Minecraft 26.3. The agent is recompiled against 26.3, and the app bundles the full 26.3 item and enchantment registry (121 new items, including the poplar wood set, concrete and wool slabs and stairs, cushions, and explorer maps). Verified end to end against a real 26.3 dedicated server: the agent loads, and auth, roots, world get and set, and the inventory registry all work.

Fixed

  • World clock reads updated for a 26.3 API change (ServerClockManager.getTotalTicks was replaced by reading the clock instance), so world time.clocks still serializes correctly.

Downloads

  • LiveNBT.App.exe: the standalone desktop app. Just run it; no install, no .NET needed. This is the update most people want.
  • LiveNBT-Setup.exe: installer that also wires the -javaagent into your Minecraft launcher profiles.
  • livenbt-agent.jar: the server agent, for the permanent install and for Linux dedicated servers.

The exes are unsigned, so SmartScreen may warn on first run (More info, then Run anyway). Full docs in the README.

LiveNBT v0.4.1 — live-refresh fix

@Nitro70 Nitro70 released this 08 Jul 00:14

LiveNBT v0.4.1 — live-refresh fix

A focused bug fix for the ease-of-use release. App-only — the agent is unchanged from v0.3.0, so dedicated-server operators don't need to redeploy.

Fixed

  • The live refresh no longer collapses your expanded tree. When you expanded a compound (an inventory item, components, attributes, …) and it was modified, the 2-second refresh would snap it shut. The cause: the game re-serializes a compound with its keys reordered or with a new key added (e.g. after an item edit reloads the entity), and the tree was matching children by position. Compound children are now matched by name, so a surviving key keeps its existing row — and its expansion and selection — while the tree reorders in place to match the game.

Downloads

  • LiveNBT.App.exe — standalone desktop app. Just run it; no install, no .NET needed.
  • LiveNBT-Setup.exe — installer that also wires the -javaagent into your Minecraft launcher profiles.
  • livenbt-agent.jar — the server agent, unchanged from v0.3.0 (you don't need to re-download it if it's already deployed).

Unsigned exes, so SmartScreen may warn on first run (More info → Run anyway).

LiveNBT v0.4.0 — ease-of-use update

@Nitro70 Nitro70 released this 07 Jul 23:12

LiveNBT v0.4.0 — the ease-of-use release

The editing workflow from NBT Studio, adapted for live editing. Every change here is additive — the connect/edit/watch/inventory flows you already use behave exactly as before — and everything works against the running game (no files, no saving).

App-only update. The agent is unchanged from v0.3.0, so if you run a dedicated server you do not need to redeploy anything — just update the desktop app.

New

  • Keyboard-first editing (select a row, keep the tree focused): Enter/Ctrl+E edit, F2 rename, Del delete (selection jumps to the next sibling so you can rapid-delete), Space/Ctrl+Space expand, Ctrl+Up jump to parent, Alt+Up/Alt+Down reorder list elements.
  • SNBT clipboard — Ctrl+C copy as SNBT, Ctrl+Shift+C copy path, Ctrl+X cut, Ctrl+V paste. Compound keys copy as name:value, so tags round-trip cleanly with NBT Studio.
  • Undo / Redo — Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z (or Ctrl+Y) for every edit you make: set, add, delete, paste, duplicate, rename, reorder. Live-editor semantics — undo restores the value as it was right before your edit.
  • Duplicate (Ctrl+D) with automatic Name1, Name2… naming.
  • Edit as SNBT (Ctrl+Shift+E) — a whole tag as multiline text (also how you edit long or multiline strings); type-checked so a set can't accidentally change a tag's type. Plus Add as SNBT and a Quick add submenu (typed tag, auto-named, no dialog).
  • Deep find (Ctrl+Shift+F) — search every name and value in the loaded tree (regex optional), jump hit to hit, or list all results and click to jump. The old Ctrl+F top-level filter is unchanged.
  • In-app Help — F1 or the ❔ Help button opens a full usage guide and shortcut reference.
  • Quality of life — colored type chips, tooltips for long strings and arrays, Ctrl+mouse wheel tree zoom (remembered), byte/int/long array creation, watch entries get a ✕ to remove and double-click to jump, and context-menu items grey out where the game doesn't allow the operation.

Changed

  • Adding or deleting a tag now refreshes just the affected branch — the tree no longer collapses after a structural edit; expansion, selection and scroll survive.

Downloads

  • LiveNBT.App.exe — the standalone desktop app. Just run it; no install, no .NET needed. This is the update most people want.
  • LiveNBT-Setup.exe — installer that also wires the -javaagent into your Minecraft launcher profiles (for the permanent, AV-safe path).
  • livenbt-agent.jar — the server/dedicated-server agent, unchanged from v0.3.0 (included here for convenience; you don't need to re-download it if you already have v0.3.0 deployed).

v0.3.0 — Linux dedicated-server support

Choose a tag to compare

@Nitro70 Nitro70 released this 04 Jul 00:00

The dedicated-server release — run LiveNBT inside a Linux (or any) Minecraft 26.2 dedicated server and edit it remotely from Windows.

What is new

  • Linux / dedicated-server support — load the agent into a vanilla 26.2 dedicated server and connect the app by IP to see every online player, their inventories, and all world data live. Full walkthrough in the README (bind/token, firewall, SSH tunnel, systemd notes).
  • Fixes: correct tick/stop hook placement (no double-fire on servers, verified against the real 26.2 client and server jars), IPv6 hosts, multi-player connect UX, per-server tree isolation, owner-only (0600) token file on Linux, and hardened remote-bind guidance. Agent failures now degrade to "editing disabled" instead of crashing the game.

Downloads

  • LiveNBT.App.exe — the standalone Windows editor. Download and run it; no install, no .NET, no launch arguments. Use ⚡ Attach to Minecraft for singleplayer, or add a profile with your server IP for remote editing.
  • livenbt-agent.jar — the agent for a dedicated server (Linux or Windows). Add -javaagent:livenbt-agent.jar -Dnet.bytebuddy.experimental=true to your server start command, set bind/token in config/livenbt.json, then connect the app to <server-ip>:25599.
  • LiveNBT-Setup.exe — optional Windows installer that wires the -javaagent argument into your launcher profile (antivirus-friendly; no runtime injection).

Full changelog: https://github.com/Nitro70/LiveNBTEditor/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md

⚠️ The .exe files are unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may warn on first run ("More info" → "Run anyway"). The ⚡ Attach feature uses runtime code injection, which strict antivirus (e.g. Bitdefender) may flag — add an exception, use the installer, or use the dedicated-server jar path.

v0.2.0 — standalone, no-setup release

Choose a tag to compare

@Nitro70 Nitro70 released this 02 Jul 23:38

The standalone, no-setup release.

Just run it: download LiveNBT.App.exe, launch it, open a world in vanilla Minecraft 26.2, and click ⚡ Attach to Minecraft. No launch arguments, no installer, no mod loader — everything is inside the one exe.

Prefer a permanent, antivirus-friendly setup? Use LiveNBT-Setup.exe, which adds the -javaagent argument to your launcher profile instead of injecting at runtime.

See the full changelog: https://github.com/Nitro70/LiveNBTEditor/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md

⚠️ The .exe is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may warn on first run ("More info" → "Run anyway"). The ⚡ Attach feature uses runtime code injection, which strict antivirus (e.g. Bitdefender) may flag as suspicious — add an exception for it, or use the installer, which doesn't inject.
