Parafield was founded in 1936 as a woodworking company. The pivot to scientific research came after the discovery of a substantial salt mine beneath the Meridian city of Northminster. The deposit offered both a stable subterranean workspace and a strategic resource, and the company shifted its focus to science without dropping its original trade.
Woodworking was later brought back as an active division. The craft performed well enough that it became one of the funding pillars for the government organization, bankrolling the scientific side while the salt mine site developed.
Parafield established the Meridian Scientific Centre on the Northminster salt deposit as its primary research site. The facility was renamed Meridian Depthworks Centre in the 1950s as its work shifted from surface-adjacent study to deep subterranean operations. Full facility history: Meridian Depthworks Centre.
Following the 1987 Thermal Runaway and subsequent facility closure, Parliament mandated public disclosure of radiation logs in 1992. The Meridian District formally requested the data under public transparency law. Parafield complied, publishing analysis logs covering all facility sectors. The same year, Parliament redirected Parafield's attention to the Lambda Research Complex (L.F.C.), moving most of the M.D.C. workforce to Southwestern where the Lambda Research Complex resides. This Lambda Thrives initiative kept Parafield's scientific talent productive while the M.D.C. underwent decontamination. Source: 1992/03-14/Log-Public-Disclosures.md.
Under Batista Cakewalk's leadership Parafield developed Project Synthetic and the S.F.R. Mark I superstructure, later decommissioned after the 1987 Thermal Runaway. The Mark II core now operates in its place. See S F R Mark I.
Parafield covertly ran the Vitals Initiative in Sector D, producing Leo Cakewalk via soul synthesis. Parliament sanctioned the work in 1986 as a National Heritage Project. See Vitals Initiative.
