OCLC and WorldCat Registries
In the terms of the PMET program a registry is a given library's record of books. So when you search for a document or piece of media you're searching other library's databases for records.
-
Increases the chance of returning a document
-
Certain registries may specialize in the kind of document or media you are searching for
- OCLC has two sites which you can search for registries. WorldCat Reigstry or OCLC Libraries.
In this documentation we'll be using the first link above to search for an institution. Both pages can lead to the same results but have different methods of searching for an institution.
- On the WorldCat Reigstry, enter the common name of the institution you'd like to find and click search.
- Find and select the institution you're looking for.
- Once you're on the institution pages, look at the URL and copy the number at the end, that's the unique institution ID. (In our example it's 285)
-
Navigate to your
Userfolder on your computer. This can be unique to each device but it should be the name of the account you are logged into on the given device. -
Next find the
pmetfolder, as long as you've run the program once before the folder will be created in your user folder.
- Then find the
pmet-data.jsonfile and open it with a text editor, like Notepad.
- Scroll to the bottom of the file and find a property called
"heldByInstitutionID".
- Add the institution ID to the list, if not properly formatted it may break parts of the program. Make sure commas are between each of the ID's and that all the entire list is surrounded by the quotation marks like below.
