RackDaddy Lab

RackDaddy Lab is the free, self-hosted community edition of RackDaddy DCIM: a data center infrastructure management tool for documenting racks, cabling and power, and for viewing live environmental and power telemetry in an interactive 3D scene.

The Lab edition runs as a single Docker Compose stack with no external dependencies. It is a complete, single-site DCIM out of the box, and you can point it at your own InfluxDB / SNMP / Modbus sources later for live monitoring.

Documentation

  • Installation - deploy the stack, first login, and securing it before you expose it.
  • Quick Start - design your floor, generate cabinets, add equipment, and open the 3D scene.
  • Using RackDaddy - a tour of every view: 3D scene, inventory, cabling, power, IPAM, and the site configurator.
  • Device Library and Images - the bundled device-type library, generated placeholders, and downloading the real-image pack.
  • Live Monitoring - wire up InfluxDB + Telegraf so the thermal heatmap and power dashboards go live.
  • Configuration - environment variable reference.
  • FAQ - common questions and troubleshooting.

What is in the Lab edition

The Lab edition ships the core DCIM:

  • 3D scene with a live thermal heatmap, per-cabinet temperatures, cold-aisle zones, and a rack slideshow.
  • Inventory with a bundled library of 5,589 device types (auto-imported on first boot) and a Rack Manager for placing equipment.
  • Cabling and connections with realistic 3D cable routing.
  • Power and breakers with a live power dashboard and distribution-board breaker mapping.
  • Bring-your-own monitoring - point RackDaddy at any InfluxDB and it reads a small, fixed schema (no vendor lock-in).
  • Site Configurator - a 2D floor designer that generates your rows and cabinets.
  • Capacity planning - space, power, weight, and port utilization per cabinet.
  • IPAM and VLANs - IP address management with subnet utilization (capped in the Lab, see below).
  • Users, notifications and background jobs.

Lab limits

The Lab edition is sized for a lab, a homelab, or evaluating RackDaddy:

Limit Lab edition
Sites 1
Rows 2
Cabinets 4
IPAM prefixes 2

Features that are part of the full edition (multi-site, tenant/colo portal, work orders and audit, reporting and PUE, API tokens, vendor HVAC/power/genset drivers, SSO) are not included in the Lab image. See the FAQ for the difference.
