World War VR v0.4.0 Beta 2
World War VR v0.4.0 Beta 2
Beta 2 improves launch diagnostics and native VR menu interaction.
What's changed
- Improved resolution compatibility errors. The launcher now reports the physical current desktop resolution and requested VR source resolution, explains why an oversized mode cannot start, and recommends either selecting a fitting preset or increasing the Windows desktop resolution. Supported NVIDIA users are also given optional DSR/DLDSR guidance.
- Fixed rapid repeated menu-hover sounds caused by stationary desktop mouse polling repeatedly overriding the VR controller pointer.
- Physical mouse movement remains supported alongside VR menu pointing.
World War VR v0.4.0 Beta 1
Beta 1 focuses on custom-map stability, stereo effects, and installation compatibility.
What changed
- Fixed a renderer-transition race that could produce
Direct3DDevice9::Present failed: Invalid callwhen a custom map or mod recreated the game’s D3D9 device or swap chain. - Preserved native Present and Reset routing across renderer recreation so World War VR can safely reconnect after a mod reload.
- Added a profile-gated stereo correction for emissive particles and smoke that could appear in only one eye.
- Added a seam-safe, per-eye bloom/glow pass for stereo gameplay, improving glowing power-ups and energy effects.
- Reduced renderer-thread logging overhead and repeated diagnostic output.
- Restored support for installations where the verified executable and game-data directory are stored separately.
- Updated the tested compatibility documentation for Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 with Virtual Desktop.
Known caveats
- Custom maps and mods are third-party content. This update fixes the renderer transition, but not every map’s scripts or assets are guaranteed to be compatible.
- The stereo bloom pass is intentionally conservative and may not exactly match the original flat-screen bloom.
- Higher VR-quality settings can still produce performance spikes while the D3D9 CPU capture fallback is active.
- Zombies remains the primary supported mode. Campaign and Multiplayer are experimental; online multiplayer is unsupported.
- This is an unsigned beta build. Run World War VR as administrator.

World War VR v0.4.0 Alpha 3
Changes in this prerelease:
- Added an optional SteamVR OpenXR compatibility mode for Quest streaming setups. It uses the registered 32-bit SteamVR OpenXR runtime only for the launched game and leaves the normal system runtime unchanged when disabled.
- Added verified in-launcher update notifications, release-note display, a 30-day reminder snooze, and explicit installer download verification.
- Improved OpenXR frame-pacing behavior and diagnostics, including correct handling when the runtime says a frame should not be rendered.
- Reduced distant-model popping by applying a stereo-safe LOD culling clamp without changing the actual eye projection.
- Improved campaign support controls for the Little Resistance rocket-strike designator and added controller-aim diagnostics.
- Raised the conservative dynamic-light limit for effects while keeping unsafe stereo shadow paths disabled.
Mode status:
- Zombies: primary supported mode.
- Multiplayer and Campaign: experimental.
- Online multiplayer: not supported or tested.
This is an unsigned prerelease build.
