Scotch v1.2.3
Scotch 1.2.3 (build 8)
Fixes bottle creation failing with a regedit.exe error (#5), Steam opening as a black window, and uninstall leaving files behind. Includes PR #6, merged into main. Working on macOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate.
Fixes
- Bottle creation:
wineboot --initcould finish without its 32-bit (WoW64) half, so winetrickscorefontsfailed withfailed to open C:\windows\syswow64\regedit.exe/ status 53. Scotch now checks 32-bit support after creating the prefix, repairs it once withwineboot -u, and otherwise stops with a clear error and the setup log path. - Core fonts: a failed font download no longer deletes the new bottle; Scotch keeps it and shows a warning (retry from Winetricks → corefonts).
- Steam black window: under Wine 11 on Apple Silicon, Steam's UI never reached the screen. Scotch now runs Steam's web helper in a single process through a small launcher (source included), keeps it in place across Steam's startup checks, re-applies it after Steam updates, and restarts an already-running Steam to pick it up.
- Uninstall: Scotch now quits by itself when uninstall finishes, and also removes Wine's Metal shader caches, Wine server sockets, and the preferences and saved state of its Wine launcher and QuickLook extension. It unregisters both apps and the extension from macOS and retries anything macOS blocked once Scotch has exited. Rosetta 2 is not removed (shared macOS component with no supported uninstall).
Improvements
- Small spinner next to a bottle's name while it's being created.
- Spinner over a pinned game's icon until the game has started.
Runtime pins are unchanged from 1.2.2: Wine 11.16, DXVK 1.10.3-repack, DXMT 0.80, D3DMetal 3.0, Mesa Zink 26.2.0, and bundled MoltenVK 1.4.0.
Requirements and installation
- Apple Silicon, macOS 26 Tahoe or later (working on macOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate), and Rosetta 2 for Wine.
- Download
Scotch.dmg, open it, and drag Scotch into Applications. - Ad-hoc signed, not Developer ID signed or notarized. No Apple Developer Program account was used. Ad-hoc signing provides local code-signature integrity, not Apple-verified publisher identity. macOS may block the first launch; after attempting to open Scotch, use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway if offered, then confirm. Only do this for a download you trust. Do not disable Gatekeeper globally.
Validation
- GitHub CI passed on the release commit: release CLI build and relocated-resource probe on macOS 26.
- Manually verified on macOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate / Apple Silicon: bottle creation, Steam install and launch, pinned game launch, and uninstall.
- 26 regression tests passed locally before release (tests are no longer kept in the repository).
- Release builds of ScotchApp, ScotchCmd, and ScotchThumbnail built from a clean clone of the release commit using Apple Swift 6.4, the macOS 26.5 SDK, and SwiftPM's native build system.
- Release bundle verification passed: required resources (including the Steam web helper launcher), relocated lookup/missing-resource handling, entitlements, QuickLook extension, architecture, and strict/deep code-signature verification.
- Not verified: Gatekeeper behavior on a clean Mac, and macOS 26 Tahoe by hand for this release. Notarization is unavailable without Developer ID credentials.

Scotch v1.2.2
Scotch 1.2.2 (build 7)
Fixes packaged runtime installation crashes and unsigned Wine.app launchers. Includes PR #4, merged into main.
Fixes
- Resolve runtime resources safely from packaged/relocated Scotch apps, SwiftPM's native build layout, XCTest, and the containing app of the QuickLook extension, without initializing SwiftPM's trapping
Bundle.moduleaccessor. - Ad-hoc sign and verify generated Wine.app launchers during runtime installation and before publishing the runtime manifest.
- Verify existing Wine.app wrappers before launch and repair unsigned or modified wrappers from older installs.
- Abort installation and restore the previous runtime if signing fails.
Runtime pins are unchanged from 1.2.1: Wine 11.16, DXVK 1.10.3-repack, DXMT 0.80, D3DMetal 3.0, Mesa Zink 26.2.0, and bundled MoltenVK 1.4.0.
Requirements and installation
- Apple Silicon, macOS 26 Tahoe or later, and Rosetta 2 for Wine.
Validation
- GitHub CI passed on the release commit: runtime tests, release CLI build, and relocated-resource probe on macOS 26.
- All 16 runtime regression tests passed locally on macOS 27 / Apple Silicon, including native codesign repair and installer rollback.
- Release builds of ScotchApp, ScotchCmd, and ScotchThumbnail passed using Apple Swift 6.4, the macOS 26.5 SDK, and SwiftPM's native build system. The macOS 27 CLT/default SwiftBuild path is not validated for this release; local checks encountered a missing SwiftUI macro plugin and an incompatible resource-bundle layout on that path.
- Release bundle verification passed: required resources, relocated lookup/missing-resource handling, entitlements, QuickLook extension, architecture, and strict/deep code-signature verification.
- DMG checksum verification passed. Mounted the final DMG, copied the app to a separate location, and repeated bundle verification; CLI help and bundled cabextract 1.11 ran successfully.
- Not yet manually verified: complete runtime download/update and Wine/Steam GUI launch on macOS 27, the full manual QA matrix, or Gatekeeper behavior on a clean Mac. Notarization is unavailable without Developer ID credentials.

Scotch v1.2.1
Scotch 1.2.1
Verified the 1.2.0 runtime matrix on macOS 26.6.2 / Apple Silicon and corrected docs to match what is actually installed.
Verified
- Wine Staging 11.16 GUI:
winecfgandnotepadstay running, nonodrv_CreateWindow/ missing graphics driver - Stock
winemac.so(the 11.6 OpenGL byte patch is not applied) - DXVK / DXMT / D3DMetal / Zink DLL inject + restore
- GPU spoof registry (
VideoPciVendorID/VideoPciDeviceID/VideoMemorySize) anddxvk.conf - CLI
setup/list/run/shellenv
Docs / labels
- MoltenVK is 1.4.0, bundled inside Gcenx Wine 11.16 (not 1.4.1)
- DXVK-macOS is DX10/11 only — Gcenx does not ship
d3d9.dll/dxgi.dll WINEDLLOVERRIDESfor DXVK is nowd3d10core,d3d11=n,bto match that overlay
Runtime pins are unchanged from 1.2.0 (Wine 11.16, DXVK 1.10.3-repack, DXMT 0.80, D3DMetal 3.0, Zink 26.2.0).

Scotch v1.2.0
Scotch 1.2.0
Runtime matrix updated to the latest usable upstream builds.
Runtime
| Component | Was | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Wine Staging | 11.6_1 | 11.16 (Gcenx) |
| DXVK-macOS | 1.10.3-repack | 1.10.3-repack (still the latest macOS-capable DXVK) |
| DXMT | 0.80 | 0.80 (latest) |
| D3DMetal | 3.0 | 3.0 (Apple GPTK 3 is still 3.0) |
| Mesa Zink | 24.3.4 (zink-1.0) |
26.2.0 (zink-2.0) |
| MoltenVK | 1.4.1 | bundled with Wine 11.16 |
| Winetricks | pinned Aug 2026 commit | same (still HEAD) |
Wine 11.16 is built --without-opengl, so the old 11.6 winemac.so byte patch is not applied. OpenGL titles use Zink. Setup warns if GStreamer.framework is missing (Gcenx lists it for media).
Existing installs will be prompted to update the runtime on next launch.

Scotch v1.1.0
Scotch 1.1.0
A maintenance release after five months away. This version consolidates every file Scotch writes, actually passes bottle environment into Wine, and adds a one-click uninstall.
Install
Download Scotch.dmg, open it, and drag Scotch into Applications. First launch: right-click → Open → confirm. Scotch still downloads Wine, DXVK, DXMT, and the Zink / D3DMetal / winemac overlays on first run (~500 MB).
Requirements
- macOS 26 Tahoe
- Apple Silicon
- Rosetta 2 (Scotch prompts during setup if missing)
What changed
- All data now lives in one place:
~/Library/Application Support/com.s3brr.Scotch/(runtime, default bottles, settings, logs, winetricks cache). Older~/Library/Containers/com.s3brr.Scotchand~/Library/Logs/com.s3brr.Scotchinstalls are migrated automatically. - Uninstall Scotch in Settings (or
scotch uninstall --all) kills Wine and removes the runtime, leftover folders, caches, CLI symlink, and optionally bottles plus the app itself. - Launches actually use the bottle. Wine.app is started with
open --envplus a launch-env file soWINEPREFIX, DLL overrides, and GPU spoofing reach the Wine process. HostPATH/HOME/TMPDIRare no longer stripped. - Runtime reinstall now replaces only
Libraries/, so bottles and settings survive a Wine/backend update. - DXMT updated to 0.80. Wine stays on Staging 11.6 because the OpenGL
winemac.sooverlay is a byte patch for that build. - New bottles run
wineboot --initbeforewinecfg. Start-menu discovery scans every Wine user, not justcrossover. - Shader cache clear also removes the DXMT cache. Winetricks cache is stored inside the Scotch support folder so uninstall can delete it.
- CLI:
scotch uninstall --all/scotch purge, with--keep-bottlesand--keep-app.
