ShakeIt V3 Bass Shakers Audio Output Configuration

Wotever edited this page Aug 22, 2019 · 12 revisions

Introduction

ShakeIt allows you to use any audio outputs required, up to 8 channels each, these outputs (sound cards) must be dedicated to bass shakers to avoid any conflicts between regular sound (game sounds) and generated frequencies (dedicated to shakers).

Wiring

Basic principle schematics :

Make sure to refer to the component's datasheets (shakers and amplifiers) to make sure all parts fit:

  • Enough amplifier power
  • Matching amplifier and shakers power
  • Matching amplifier and shakers impedance (ohms), matching impedance can be achieved by putting shakers in series or parallel if required)

Enabling outputs and configuring your sound card(s)

In the Shake It plugin go on "sound output" and enable the sound cards used for your transducers :

When enabled the number of channels effectively configured on the sound card will show :

If this number does not fit your needs you must configure it in windows audio settings and/or your sound card drivers.

A direct shortcut to windows audio settings is available in shakeit

Available settings may vary but you need to choose according to the number of channels you want to use :

  • Stereo : 2 channels
  • Quadriphonic : 4 channels
  • 5.1 : 6 channels
  • 7.1 : 8 channels

Selecting the "channel mode"

For each sound card you must choose which audio mode you will use:

There are 4 channels mode available :

  • Mono : left and right will be fed with all the effects,
    • Perfect for a single shaker configuration or a non "left/right" basic setup
  • Stereo : all effects will be spread to left and/or right depending of the effect
    • This is the basic configuration for a basic 2 channels setup spread left and right of your rig.
  • 4 Channels : all effects will be spread to the 4 corners of the rig using 4 channels
    • Note : Depending of the game and provided telemetry some effects may not be located perfectly on each corner, this is a limitation of the games.
  • Custom channel map : allows you to configure effect per effect, location per location which channel must be used
    • Ideal for any other setup, combinations are virtually infinite

Configuring the Custom channel map mode

Choosing channels

Simply enable or disable each effect on the wanted channel :

NB : For clarity only affects added to the current profile are available for configuration

Fine effects balance

You can balance each effect on each channel by enabling "Show per effect gain":

Troubleshoot channels output and or amplifier

If you have troubles locating the correct output or getting a proper output :

  • Test each output plug using headphones and "test now" buttons inside simhub, it's the easiest, and fastest way to ensure the sound is outputting
  • Make sure your amplifier is correctly plugged and working by playing some musing using your phone for instance.
  • Make sure your sound card does not requires to configure channels on both windows and the driver control panel (refer to your sound card manual)
