The SQL FineBuild Team are always pleased to have more people joining the team. You would become one of the world's very few experts on what is needed to install and configure SQL Server components for IaaS and on-premise and to best practices.

The FineBuild Wiki provides a hub of knowledge about installing and configuring SQL Server that does not exist in any other single place. It is gaining a growing recognition as a centre of knowledge for all aspects of installing SQL Server.

SQL FineBuild is written using a mixture of Windows batch commands, VBScript, and PowerShell. You will need to understand or be willing to learn these techniques, but none of these skills are difficult to learn. You would also learn about managing a simple Active Directory domain with DNS and Clustering, again not that difficult.

In order to support SQL FineBuild you will need access to a Test Lab with the following specification:

  • Use of a Visual Studio Subscription
  • Multi-core processor (6 or 8 cores recommended)
  • Minimum 32GB RAM (64GB recommended)
  • Minimum 2TB storage (4TB or more with a mixture of NVMe, SSD, fast disk and slow disk recommended)
  • Boot to Windows 2019, hosting AD Domain Controller and Hyper-V
  • Anticipated cost GBP £1,000 to £1,500

All testing should be done using Hyper-V guest machines.
