An extracting book is an item that can extract enchantments from enchanted items and transfer them onto Enchanted Books using an anvil.
Extracting books can be crafted using a Book and Quill, Bottle o' Enchanting, and a Diamond.
Extracting books are used at an anvil by placing an enchanted item in the first slot, followed by the Extracting Book in the second slot. The first enchantment⁽¹⁾ on the enchanted item is removed and transferred to a new Enchanted Book. After the output is taken, the original enchanted item will remain in the anvil with that enchantment removed, and the extracting book is consumed. Enchanted Inkwells cannot be extracted from⁽²⁾.
The extraction costs (10 / [Enchantment Weight] + 3) * [Enchantment Level] experience levels. This does not increase the enchanted item's anvil use costs, allowing repeated extractions.
If the enchanted item has one or more Curses on it, all curses will be copied to the resulting Enchanted Book regardless of their order on the item. A Curse is only removed if it is the enchantment being extracted.
