A pondering orb is a block used to reroll enchanting table enchantments and to passively grants experience.
Pondering orbs can be crafted using 2 Bottles o' Enchanting, 4 Glass blocks of any type, a Lapis Block, and 2 Gold Ingots.
Using a pondering orb will reroll the player's current enchantment RNG, causing the enchanting table to show different options without requiring an item to be enchanted. This has a 20 tick⁽¹⁾ cooldown, and can be preformed indefinitely⁽²⁾.
When a player is within 8 blocks of a pondering orb and looking at it, they gain 1 experience point⁽¹⁾ every 5 seconds⁽¹⁾.
Additionally, there is a 1/50 chance of a fortune to be displayed on the player's screen:
