A Modular Cockpit Framework for ETHOS

Designed by an aeromodeller, for aeromodellers — and with possibilities beyond the hobby.

SpitFW brings customizable cockpit instruments, touch-based controls, flexible telemetry and modular configuration together in one framework for FrSky ETHOS.

What's new in this release

  • Unified monolithic build: a compact package integrating the SpitFW framework.
  • Cockpit instruments: a collection of customizable instruments for a more informative, personalized cockpit.
  • AFG – Analog Fuel Gauge: two operating modes — throttle-based fuel estimation and telemetry-based indication.
  • Telemetry configuration: select the source and configure capacity and reserve.
  • Touch controls: interactive controls and configuration directly on the screen.
  • MultiToggle: touch-operated toggles and associated variables.
  • Multilingual interface: configuration pages with language support.
  • Organized resources: a more consistent structure for instrument graphics and assets.

Try SpitFW

The unified build has been tested in the online ETHOS simulator. The main windows, configuration interface and language selection have been checked.

Further testing on actual radios and models is encouraged.

Community feedback welcome

SpitFW is an evolving community project. Suggestions, technical feedback and real-world testing reports are welcome.

A working prototype exploring direct touchscreen control combined with the transmitter's physical switches.

The prototype demonstrates:

  • Touchscreen controls with three selectable positions
  • Physical switch control
  • Configurable hold/safety time for each position
  • Independent timing for HIGH, CENTER and LOW positions
  • Immediate action when the hold time is set to 0
  • Visual hold-progress feedback
  • Automatic ETHOS variable management

The current prototype includes:

  • MAGS
  • FLAPS
  • NAVIGATION LIGHTS

The same control concept is intended to be integrated into the corresponding SpitFW modules in the future.

This is an experimental preview for testing the concept and collecting feedback from the ETHOS community.

A ready-to-use ETHOS simulator package is provided below.

Feedback is welcome — especially regarding the touchscreen interaction, physical switch integration and configurable safety timing.

bab23a5

Compact single-file build of SpitFW (main.luac only, no separate lib/modules folders).

Contents: full X20RS simulator folder structure (scripts/, models/, bitmaps/)
ready to be dropped into your local Ethos simulator or restored via FrSky Suite,
so you can see the widget running without needing the source code.

This is a preview build for evaluating overall project quality and instrument
behavior — a few graphical details are still being refined, but the core
architecture (coordination layer + modules + libraries) is stable.

Any feedback is welcome and genuinely useful for the project — whether it's
about the concept, the instruments, or the code itself.
