TOBI 2026.10.5

TOBI 2026.10.5 is a version bump for testing automatic updates from v2026.10.2-r2. The application runtime code, bootloader configuration, and board instructions are unchanged.

To test a board running revision 2:

1. Restart TOBI with network access and complete Welcome/proxy setup. The update prompt should offer 2026.10.5 before the OS list.
2. Choose Install to overwrite the verified current boot media, or Skip to continue to the OS list. Installation requires a manual reboot.
3. After installation finishes, reboot and confirm that TOBI reports 2026.10.5 and no longer offers that same update.

The original v2026.10.2 release predates auto-update support and needs a manual SD update. Revision 2 reports application version 2026.10.2 and can discover this newer numeric version through the public catalog.

The release contains eleven board-named .img.xz images and SHA256SUMS. Use the image for your exact board and verify its checksum. SK-AM64B and TMDS64EVM share the AM64 machine payload.

Validation: 120 native tests and 121 ARM64 tests passed. Mock-only checks confirmed update discovery and Skip on all eleven boards using the preserved 2026.10.2 client, and no repeated offer using the 2026.10.5 client. Physical-board boot, flashing, and the field self-update still need hardware validation.

All ten cached Yocto machine builds and eleven board images passed content and previous-release payload verification. Bootloaders, kernels, DTBs, and boot settings match revision 2; only the recovery initramfs and its TOBI executable changed.

TOBI 2026.10.2 revision 2

TOBI 2026.10.2 revision 2 adds automatic-update prompts and board-specific boot instructions to all eleven board images.

• After Welcome and proxy configuration, Install updates the verified current boot media; Skip opens the OS list. Installation erases that device and requires a manual reboot.
• Successful eMMC flashing shows the board’s switch settings, an illustrated guide URL, and a QR code. All eleven boards have guides, including SK-AM64B and SK-AM68, which have no onboard eMMC.
• U-Boot passes the boot card’s CID to Linux so automatic updates can distinguish SD and eMMC even when their partition UUIDs match.
• BeaglePlay and SK-AM69 TOBI recovery installations provision and read-back verify the first-stage loader in eMMC Boot0, then load remaining stages from the filesystem. Other supported eMMC boards use filesystem boot. AM64 retains its SR2 HS-FS loader.

Download the image named for your board and verify it against SHA256SUMS before writing it to an SD card. The release contains eleven .img.xz images and SHA256SUMS; SK-AM64B and TMDS64EVM share the AM64 payload.

The app version remains 2026.10.2. This revision is published under v2026.10.2-r2; the original v2026.10.2 release remains available and predates these changes. Install revision 2 manually from SD to add these features to an older binary. Update prompts compare numeric app versions, so an existing 2026.10.2 installation does not consider this revision a newer version.

The board-guide source and GitHub Pages workflow are included. QR destinations require Pages to be enabled in repository Settings → Pages, with GitHub Actions as the source.

Validation: 120 native and 121 Linux ARM64 tests passed; all ten Yocto machine builds succeeded. All eleven images passed integrity and content verification, including the exact embedded app and actual generated bootloader configurations. All eleven guides and 71 internal links passed. Physical board boot, eMMC flashing, and live auto-update remain unverified by these software checks.

TOBI 2026.10.2

TOBI 2026.10.2 fixes TOBI recovery installation to eMMC and keeps the recovery kernel, initramfs, device trees, and boot arguments intact. Its bootloader stages load from the eMMC user-area FAT filesystem. BeaglePlay copies the first-stage tiboot3.bin bootstrap into Boot0 and verifies it by reading it back, then loads the remaining stages from that filesystem.

Download TOBI-2026.10.2-<BOARD>.img.xz for your board and verify it against SHA256SUMS before writing it to SD. The release includes eleven board images; SK-AM64B and TMDS64EVM share the same AM64x payload with the vendor HS-FS bootloader.

After a successful eMMC install, power off and remove the SD card. For boards with boot switches, select MMCSD, eMMC port 0, filesystem mode using the board manual. For BeaglePlay, power on with USR released. TOBI stops on boot-preparation errors and waits for a manual power cycle after eMMC installation.

The public catalog also refreshes the available TI SDK, Edge AI, Armbian Community, and BeaglePlay Debian downloads. Third-party images still require compatible bootloaders; this release changes the bootloaders built into TOBI images.

Software tests and image checks pass. Physical-board cold boot, eMMC startup, and recovery remain to be verified on hardware. See the README for board and build details.

BeaglePlay boot and recovery

• Adds an HDMI and serial U-Boot boot menu with SD as the default, eMMC as the second option, and TOBI Recovery as the third option.
• Returns to the menu when a selected boot source or required file is unavailable.
• Adds an HDMI startup screen with a TI-red logo on black for about three seconds, followed by a dark boot menu with a ten-second default-boot delay.
• Adds the IT66121 HDMI bridge and framebuffer handling needed by BeaglePlay U-Boot.
• Fixes BeaglePlay recovery HDMI module loading.
• Packages a self-contained TOBI Recovery payload under /recovery in the flashable image.

The new graphical U-Boot splash/menu is BeaglePlay-specific. The recovery packaging and regular TOBI image updates are included across the supported image matrix, but other boards continue to use their existing U-Boot presentation. Hardware testing for the graphical boot path has primarily been performed on BeaglePlay.

AM62 SIP memory

AM62 SIP now uses the regular TOBI image rather than TOBI-lite. Its integrated DDR is 512 MiB, and the compiled A53 U-Boot, R5 U-Boot, and Linux device trees were each verified to describe the full region:

Validation

• All ten regular machine images completed a clean release-matrix build.
• All ten .wic.xz streams passed XZ integrity validation.
• All ten .wic.bmap files passed XML validation and match the corresponding uncompressed image sizes.
• The TOBI Rust test suite passed all 50 tests during development validation.

Assets intentionally include only flashable .wic.xz images and matching .wic.bmap files.
