WESTERN_SYSTEMS_AUDIT
Point-in-time audit (2026-06), corrected 2026-07-25. This document is the broad Western audit record for that period. Current code, standards, facade exports, and REST route registration govern present capability claims. In particular, the Valens distributions/transmissions interpretive layer is now a closed exclusion; historical statements below that call it P1–P12 complete or REST/dignity-ready are superseded. Decennials is admitted only through L2; both named deep-subdivision candidates fail closed. The Hermetic decan catalog is also research-only and absent from public and registered REST surfaces. These are not current Hellenistic gaps or release backlog.
House-system correction (2026-09-28). The polar-house narrative later in this point-in-time audit predates the integrated high-latitude work. Current runtime truth has
_POLAR_SYSTEMS == {'K'}; Campanus, Regiomontanus, and Topocentric join Placidus and Alcabitius in owning integrated high-latitude geometry. UseHOUSES_BACKEND_STANDARD.md, not the historical work log below, for current policy.
Current prioritization: Use the cross-tradition Astrology Coverage Frontier Gap Audit (2026-08) for gap selection. It preserves its original
c868fd0baseline and is amended through Track A admission commit7090255e2d6cc41f7b4df15417512412f0ad5366and the Track B Horary/Mundane admission commit containing this notice. Retain this document as the detailed Western point-in-time record; its Horary/Mundane gap claims are historical.
Document: wiki/07_audit/WESTERN_SYSTEMS_AUDIT.md (canonical broad Western audit)
Created: 2026-06 (initial draft)
Last updated: 2026-07-25 (Phase-1 Decennials and Hermetic-decan containment correction)
Focus: Broad Western tradition (Hellenistic/Greek + Medieval/Arabic + Renaissance + Modern Western including psychological, Uranian/Hamburg, Cosmobiology, etc.), as explicitly scoped. Separate from Vedic/Jyotish (tabled in prior work; see TIER2_VEDIC_WORK_TRACKER.md).
Purpose: Complete, truthful audit of all Western systems present in the Moira codebase. Reports current status, constitutional maturity, implementation reality vs. documentation, gaps (Type A = missing core feature; Type B = depth/interpretation/exposure gaps), and scores. "Truthfully" means distinguishing "math exists in Python" from "full constitutional phase, facade/REST exposure, tests, docs, and usable interpretation layer."
Methodology & Sources (truthful basis):
- Direct code inspection (moira/.py, primary_directions/, facade.py and facade.py, moira_server/, tests/).
- Existing constitutional artifacts: *_BACKEND_STANDARD.md (e.g. HOUSES, DIGNITIES, TIMELORDS, PRIMARY_DIRECTIONS, PROGRESSIONS, ASPECT, LOTS, SYNASTRY, TRANSITS, STARS), CONSTITUTIONAL_PROCESS.md.
- Prior audits/roadmaps (cross-referenced, with notes on staleness): FEATURE_AUDIT_2026.md, WESTERN_HELLENISTIC_GAP_TRACKER.md (Hellenistic focus), hellenistic_completion_roadmap.md (note: partially outdated per 2026-05/06 code verification), MOIRA_COMPETITIVE_ANALYSIS_2026-05-25.md, individual doctrine/roadmap files in
wiki/(e.g. primary-directions research andtimelords/decennials_admission_doctrine.md). - Current correction: the Decennials L1/L2 core is the complete admitted contract; deep subdivision and the distinct distributions/delineations layer are closed exclusions under TIMELORDS_BACKEND_STANDARD.md.
- Exposure: Public Moira facade, server routers, all exports.
- No invention; all claims backed by file reads/greps/listings as of this session. "Gaps" called out even if docs claim completeness.
Moira has exceptionally strong Western coverage in core natal construction (houses, aspects, dignities, lots) and predictive machinery (progressions, primary directions with many methods, transits, timelords). Whole-sign aspects, aspect direction/overcoming, planetary joys, besiegement, oriental/occidental condition, and halb are implemented. The separate Valens distributions/delineations layer is a closed exclusion and is not an incomplete Hellenistic engine component.
Truthful caveats (as of this audit):
- Many systems have deep code (especially primary_directions/ with extensive truth cards, methods, targets) and wiki documentation, but facade/REST/server exposure and end-to-end interpretation layers can lag (Type B gaps).
- Standards often declare "Phase 11 freeze" based on current truth; some are more aspirational in sub-areas.
- Broad scope (user-chosen) means including modern/Western extensions like Uranian (dedicated uranian.py + points) alongside classical.
- Vedic excluded per "primarily the focus is on Western systems" + prior tabling.
- Scores are approximate (0-100% composite of constitutional maturity, breadth of implementation, exposure, tests/docs, source backing). Derived from FEATURE_AUDIT_2026 baseline + updates + code verification.
| Domain | Approx. Score | Key Strengths | Major Truthful Gaps / Notes | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natal Chart Construction & Frames (Houses, Angles, etc.) | 95% | 17+ systems (Whole Sign, Placidus variants, Huber, Galactic, Gauquelin, Solar Sign, etc.); derived houses; polar fallbacks; strong standard (Phase 11) | Minor: some exotic polar/hybrid edge cases; full sovereign remediation roadmap exists but not 100% complete | Low |
| Aspects, Midpoints, Antiscia, Patterns | 95% | Full Ptolemaic + minor + declination + whole-sign domain; midpoints, antiscia, patterns (Grand Trine etc.); overcoming (katarchein) + sinister/dexter in aspects.py | Depth: minor interpretive pattern overlays remaining | Low |
| Dignities, Strength, Rulership & Condition | 88% | Essential (domicile+), accidental (hayz, halb, joy, oriental, besieged, solar, receptions); triplicity/bounds/face as first-class; many standards | Type B: full Medieval/Arabic compound rulership or psychological dignity models limited; some bounds tables strong (Egyptian) but cross-doctrine depth varies | Med |
| Lots, Parts & Special Points | 90% | ~hundreds of lots with sect reversal; nine_parts; Uranian points via dedicated support | Depth: full interpretive "meaning" layers for obscure lots thinner than core Fortune/Spirit | Low |
| Natal Interpretation Aids | 75% | Chart shape, harmonics, some intensity (Huber age points) | Psychological/ modern Western (e.g. full chart pattern psychology, midpoint trees as primary) partial | Med |
| Predictive — Time Lord Systems | 82% | Profections, Firdaria (incl. Bonatti), Zodiacal Releasing (multi-lot), and the complete admitted Decennials L1/L2 contract; Hyleg etc. | Closed Hellenistic exclusions are not scored as missing; broader Medieval/Arabic time-lord families remain a separate Western breadth question | High |
| Predictive — Transits, Progressions, Directions, Returns | 93% | Extensive progressions (40+ techniques); primary directions (many methods: Ptolemy, Placidus, Morinus, Regiomontanus, Topocentric, etc. with fixed stars, antiscia, converse, targets); rich transits (aspect, equatorial, house ingresses, converse); returns (solar etc.) | Type B: full facade exposure for all PD methods/variants may be partial vs. wiki depth; some return flavors (e.g. varshaphal) more Vedic-flavored | Low-Med |
| Relational & Synastry | 85% | Core synastry (aspects, houses, midpoints, composites, Davison with MC correction); progressed synastry | Major gaps: transits to composite/Davison, cross-chart patterns | High |
| Spatial & Locational (ACG, Local Space, etc.) | 83% | Basic ACG (MC/IC/ASC/DSC lines), zenith/nadir sub-planetary points, parans, local space, geodetic; relocated charts | Extended bodies/fixed stars for broader ACG coverage; full 3D/spatial interpretation; richer map/render exposure for spatial products | High |
| Special Western & Esoteric | 80% | Fixed stars (large catalog, parans, heliacal, Behenian/Royal); Uranian/Hamburg (9 bodies + mechanics); eclipses (canon + search + hits); visibility (heliacal, continuous windows partial); midpoints/harmonics as Western tools; planetary hours, etc. | Depth: full modern psychological or Cosmobiology interpretive layers limited; continuous visibility windows (vs. discrete events) partial; some Uranian-specific techniques (e.g. full sensitive points trees) may be thinner | Med |
Overall Western Score (rough composite): ~85-88% (strong core, improving on recent Hellenistic closures, depth/exposure gaps in relational/spatial/special and some predictive sub-systems).
Top Truthful Gaps (prioritized, broad Western scope):
- Relational depth (composite transits) - High user/website impact.
- Spatial/ACG extensions (extended-body/fixed-star coverage, richer map/render exposure).
- Full exposure/interpretation for deep primary directions variants.
- Broader Medieval/Arabic + Renaissance time-lord or compound systems beyond core timelords.
- Modern Western psychological/ Uranian advanced interpretive layers.
- No Hellenistic engine backlog is created by the closed Valens distribution, Decennial L3/L4, or Hermetic product exclusions; they do not qualify the completed non-interpretive Hellenistic chart profile.

Legend (truthful): Green = largely fully implemented + constitutional + exposed. Yellow = deep code/wiki but incomplete exposure/interpretation. Red/Pink = significant gaps (A or B).
(This visual will be kept updated; Mermaid renders in GitHub/wiki viewers.)
Deep Charting Rule (applied truthfully): For each, list Fully Implemented (with evidence: code paths, phase from standard, facade presence, tests) vs Incomplete/Gaps (specific reasons: "no X in facade.py", "Type B: calc present but no end-user interpretation or server route", "tests weak on edges", "docs aspirational vs code"). Houses work log (this session, per user "i want to work on houses first" + "what house systems have we forgotten??"):
- Started "in order" with forgotten systems identified in prior audit pass.
- Implemented first one: Zariel (see details below in Fully).
- Updated this document (WESTERN_SYSTEMS_AUDIT.md) with deep charting for the addition (moved from gaps to Fully, with implementation evidence, code paths, verification).
- Synced the doc (and all changed files) with LiteralPath to main OneDrive after the edit, verified content from main path, reported "Files synced...".
- Also updated trackers/remember.
- Why updates to this doc: This is the canonical "complete audit" the user requested. Every houses change (code or status) must be reflected here truthfully for the "map this all out" goal. Previous perception of "not updating" addressed by this prominent log + re-verification from main copy.
Zariel code cleanliness + source-first audit (direct response to user query this session: "is our Zariel house sytem with any swiss code smells? dod we imnplement it from source first??"):
-
Investigation performed (per process + summary directive): Read moira/constants.py (HouseSystem.ZARIEL = "Z" + docstring + HOUSE_SYSTEM_NAMES); full targeted reads + greps on moira/houses.py (_KNOWN_SYSTEMS includes ZARIEL, _CLASSIFICATIONS["Z"] = EQUAL family + EQUATORIAL basis + latitude_sensitive=False + polar_capable=True with comment; def _zariel(asc, obliquity) at ~2201; body: ra_asc, _ = _ecl_to_eq(asc, 0.0, obliquity); cusps = _equatorial_division_cycle(ra_asc, obliquity, _project_ra_equatorial); return _finalize_cusps(..., "_zariel"); dispatch at houses_from_armc:4139
elif effective_system == HouseSystem.ZARIEL: cusps = _zariel(asc, obliquity); all helpers (_ecl_to_eq ~1822, _equatorial_division_cycle ~1795, _project_ra_equatorial ~1780 delegating to _project_ra_with_pole vector geometry using _ra_pole_plane_normal/_cross3/_ecliptic_longitude_from_equatorial_vector, _finalize_cusps) are pure stdlib math + local vector ops — no Swiss. - Grep results: houses.py has zero swisseph/swe_houses/swe.house imports or calls (file top import only math + local moira.). No Zariel ever routed to _placidus default. Broad codebase greps show swe_houses only in archive comparison scripts + old tests for reference benchmarking, never in the active houses engine path for Z (or the RA family).
- Read HOUSES_SOVEREIGNTY_REMEDIATION_ROADMAP.md + HOUSES_BACKEND_STANDARD.md: No prior Zariel mention (standard still declares "18 recognised"; roadmap enumerates Equatorial-division family as Morinus/Meridian/Carter with shared substrate; Zariel is a direct fit as "equal RA from Asc RA" variant using pole=0 projector). Roadmap notes pre-existing "Major" item on shared _project_ra_with_pole ("Geometrized, but still psychologically anchored to the inherited closed form") and file-level history note in houses.py header about swehouse.c derivation permission for some systems in the module. Zariel addition did not create or extend any Swiss code path — it extended the already-present Moira geometric RA family.
- Provenance / "from source first" search (grep across
*.md,MOIRA_COMPETITIVE_ANALYSIS_2026-05-25.md,wiki/07_audit/FEATURE_AUDIT_2026.md,tests/, andscripts/for Zariel + house literature): Zero hits outside the audit/tracker/remember we maintain in this session. Nozariel_admission_doctrine.md, no verbatim extract (contrast:decennials_admission_doctrine.mdhas full pulled Valens IV.17-25 tables + lots before anytimelords.pyP1 code). Competitive noted "17 house systems"; FEATURE_AUDIT mentions recent solar-sign etc. adds but no Zariel. Gap was surfaced by code inventory (_KNOWN_SYSTEMScount + standard "18") + user "what house systems have we forgotten??" after "no, i want to work on houses first". Implementation comment: "Canon: Traditional Western (Zariel attribution); quadrant/equal-RA family." + "modeled on Morinus for reuse of proven clean projector". No dedicated literature packet preceded the code. - Runtime smoke (this session):
python -c "from moira.constants import HouseSystem...; from moira.houses import ...; h=calculate_houses(2460000.0,40.0,-74.0,HouseSystem.ZARIEL); assert abs(h.cusps[0]-h.asc)<1e-6; print('SUCCESS')"— classifies correctly, calculates, Asc recovered exactly on cusp 0 (design intent for Asc-anchored RA-equal). -
Truthful conclusion:
- (a) No Swiss code smells in the Zariel house system. No direct/indirect swe_houses, no ported Swiss cusp math, direct pure-Python dispatch using project's internal RA-equatorial helpers (vector-plane geometry, not angle-table staging). Pre-existing module header + roadmap notes on the RA substrate apply to the whole family (Morinus etc.) and were not introduced or worsened here. Fits the sovereignty remediation spirit for additive work (reuse shared clean-ish substrate).
- (b) We did not implement it from source first in the sense required by the constraints demonstrated on prior work (e.g. "Start with aphesis/distributions + Triacontaeteris, but only if it can be implemented from first principles and source backed, not from your memory or training"; "we use wiki\00_foundations\CONSTITUTIONAL_PROCESS.md, and a prephase 1 work that is research oriented... Pull the complete ... formalize the packet in the admission doc" before layering phases). This was audit-gap + user-directed "start in order" + reuse of vetted internal helpers (good engineering hygiene, no memory invention of math). But no pre-code literature extract / admission packet / tool-sourced verbatim definition of the exact Zariel RA spacing + projection rule. Would need a dedicated source packet + standard update (HOUSES_BACKEND_STANDARD still says 18; roadmap family list doesn't include Z yet) + tests/docs citations for full parity with constitutional items.
- Updated this document (deep chart: added ZARIEL bullet to Fully core list, rewrote Zariel gaps entry with audit findings + cross-refs to this log, bumped score slightly for added audit depth, updated refs + header). Remaining forgotten (Pullen etc.) untouched.
- Synced... (see steps below).
Fully Implemented (deep charting):
-
Core 20 (original 18 + ZARIEL + EQUAL_MC added 2026-06 as "forgotten" per user "start in order") via HouseSystem / calculate_houses (constants.py + houses.py, _KNOWN_SYSTEMS, _CLASSIFICATIONS):

- MERIDIAN (X) — Meridian / Axial Rotation
- CARTER (CT) — Carter Poli-Equatorial
- ZARIEL (Z) — Zariel (equal 30° RA divisions from the Ascendant's own RA, projected to ecliptic via equatorial/pole-0 projector; RA-equal family, distinct anchor from Morinus ARMC+90; classification EQUAL/EQUATORIAL, lat=False, polar=True. See houses work log above for full Swiss-smell/source-first audit: clean reuse of internal geometry, no new Swiss, gap-driven not full source-packet-first.)

- APC (Y) — APC
- SUNSHINE (N) — Sunshine (Makransky solar)
- SOLAR_SIGN (S) — Solar Sign (traditional solar frame)
-
Dedicated / special house-like systems (separate modules, fully exposed in facade/init where applicable):
- Huber (huber.py) — Huber houses + age points, intensity profiles, PHI-based.
- Galactic (galactic_houses.py + galactic.py) — Galactic house cusps, angles, boundary profiles.
- Gauquelin (gauquelin.py) — Gauquelin sectors (36 or 12), plus sectors.
- Geodetic (geodetic.py) — Geodetic MC/ASC, geodetic chart, equivalents map (modern locational "houses").
- Local Space (local_space.py) — Local space azimuth/altitude positions (often used analogously to directional "houses").
- Derived houses (derived_houses), polar fallbacks (with policy: FALLBACK_TO_PORPHYRY default, experimental search for Placidus), ARMC/obliquity based calculations, cusp proximity, angularity (ANGULAR/SUCCEDENT/CADENT), comparisons, occupancy/distribution.
- Strong HOUSES_BACKEND_STANDARD.md (Phase 11 declared, 1,189+ passing tests across unit/integration files noted; note: standard text still says "18 recognised" — additive Zariel post-dates current freeze text).
- Excellent facade + public API exposure: calculate_houses, houses_from_armc, assign_house, describe_*, compare_systems, etc. Re-exported in moira/init.py and _facade_core / _facade_spatial.
- Full classification (HouseSystemFamily, CuspBasis, latitude_sensitive, polar_capable), policy (UnknownSystemPolicy, PolarFallbackPolicy), invariants, hardening.
Present policy for latitude-sensitive houses (code-verified at runtime, per user query "no i misread your edits. so wghat is the present policy, in the code base, for latitude sensitive houses"):
- "latitude_sensitive" (HouseSystemClassification.latitude_sensitive + HouseCusps.is_latitude_sensitive): static per-system flag. True for CARTER, PORPHYRY, PLACIDUS, ALCABITIUS, KOCH, CAMPANUS, AZIMUTHAL, REGIOMONTANUS, TOPOCENTRIC, KRUSINSKI, APC (their cusp longitudes depend on observer latitude via asc/mc or semi-arc/vertical/pole calcs). False for WHOLE_SIGN, EQUAL, VEHLOW, MORINUS, MERIDIAN, SUNSHINE, SOLAR_SIGN, ZARIEL (cusp longitudes independent of lat once ARMC/asc anchor is fixed).
- Polar-incapable handling (distinct but overlapping): runtime guard in houses_from_armc:4036 (and calculate_houses delegates): critical_lat = 90.0 - obliquity (dynamic per chart; ~66.5619° for the 2000-03-20 J2000 obliquity in tests); polar = abs(lat) >= critical_lat and system in _POLAR_SYSTEMS.
- _POLAR_SYSTEMS (houses.py:491): frozenset of 6: 'B'(Alcabitius), 'C'(Campanus), 'K'(Koch), 'P'(Placidus), 'R'(Regiomontanus), 'T'(Topocentric). These share root geometric singularities (tan(lat) in _asc_from_armc or pole-height formulas overflow at/above Arctic).
- HousePolicy.polar_fallback (default = FALLBACK_TO_PORPHYRY via HousePolicy.default(); see also .strict(), .experimental()):
- Default: fallback to Porphyry (effective=O, fallback=True, detailed reason string with |lat| and critical_lat interpolated from actual obliquity).
- RAISE: ValueError citing the exact critical_lat (=90° − obliquity).
- FALLBACK_TO_EQUAL / WHOLE_SIGN: analogous explicit substitution.
- EXPERIMENTAL_SEARCH: only allowed for PLACIDUS; delegates to experimental_placidus; on this 70N fixture returns no unique ordered root (raises inside); not "repair" in main path.
- Runtime evidence (python smoke via venv python loading worktree source, J2000 dt, 70N vs 60N): at 70N all 6 in set trigger fallback to O under default; 60N Placidus stays P (no fallback); strict raises with 66.5619°; Zariel (not in set, lat_sensitive=False) succeeds at 70N with no fallback.
- 70° appears only in tests/unit/test_moira_polar_houses.py (and comments) as a safe fixture "well above critical" for J2000 obliquity exercises; policy code never hardcodes 70 or any fixed threshold — always 90 − chart_obliquity.
- Note on classification vs runtime (truthful gap): only P and K have polar_capable=False in _CLASSIFICATIONS table (and tests assert "all in _POLAR_SYSTEMS must have False"); the other 4 (B,C,R,T) are in the runtime guard set (and do trigger fallback at 70N) yet are classified polar_capable=True. The guard logic in houses_from_armc does not consult classification.polar_capable; the flag is metadata/advisory only. Standards and some tests/docs are stale vs this expansion of the guard set. This is recorded here per Documentation Law; no code change performed (minimal touch).
- Post-Placidus spherical-trig refactor: _placidus_semi_arc_event now uses pure asin/tan/acos identities for DSA + dDSA/dλ (geometry primary, docstring explicit); solver in _placidus remains thin Newton consumer. The polar policy layer (pre-dispatch guard + fallback) remains separate from the event fn (no integrated high-lat branch search in main Placidus impl except via explicit EXPERIMENTAL_SEARCH policy).
Remaining work to finish the Placidus (per explicit user protocol: "pure spherical-trig event functions for DSA/dDSA, geometry as primary object, solving as thin consumer, integrated branch doctrine without repair-shaped defaults"; and roadmap Phase E end-state: "event geometry stated explicitly; root-solving retained only as execution method; no repair-shaped latitude corrections; branch and singularity doctrine explicit at the object level"):
- Sentinel repair still present in geometry (houses.py:1944):
if arg < -1.0 or arg > 1.0: return math.pi / 2.0, 0.0. This is a silent clamp for circumpolar points; violates "no repair-shaped" and "geometry as primary". Event docstring claims "Raises: None", hiding the domain handling. Must remove or replace with explicit signal (e.g. return None or raise) that branch logic consumes. - Branch search not integrated into default path (houses.py:4043 polar block + 4051 EXPERIMENTAL_SEARCH branch + _experimental_polar_placidus_cusps:698). Default policy for |lat| >= critical and PLACIDUS always sets fallback (usually to Porphyry) or raises; only explicit HousePolicy.experimental() calls the search (in experimental_placidus.py) and returns real P with fallback=False. "Integrated branch doctrine" requires the search (bisection on residuals + ordered_cycle check from ASC) to be attempted in the normal flow for P: on UNIQUE_ORDERED_SOLUTION serve effective=PLACIDUS, fallback=False; only on no unique apply the PolarFallbackPolicy.
- _POLAR_SYSTEMS still includes PLACIDUS (houses.py:491) and comment (485) still groups "Placidus / Koch" as diverging. Once integrated, remove P (P becomes polar_capable via explicit branch doctrine; the other 5 systems stay guarded as they lack equivalent integration).
- Classification still marks PLACIDUS polar_capable=False (houses.py:431). Must flip to True once P is no longer blanket-incapable. Tests (test_house_classification.py:250, test_house_inspectability.py:77, consistency checks) and standard hard-require the old False + "all in _POLAR must be False".
- Trig duplication and non-shared geometry (experimental_placidus.py:142 dsa_from_ra / ra_to_lam reimplements the asin/tan/acos that _placidus_semi_arc_event:1941 now owns). For sovereignty, search must consume the canonical event or extracted pure dsa(λ, ε, φ) once promoted.
- Stale/outdated prose in multiple places:
- houses.py module docstring (55 "Critical-latitude doctrine", 60 still says "(Placidus, Koch) clamp the acos()", 48 lists EXPERIMENTAL as default).
- HOUSES_BACKEND_STANDARD.md (162 "_POLAR_SYSTEMS:
P,K"; 150 table No for P; 164 "fall back to Porphyry under the default policy"; 243 stale frozenset; 267 acknowledges the 77N experiment but does not reflect integrated default). - experimental_placidus.py:4 module docstring ("intentionally separate ... does not alter Moira's default house doctrine").
- Test comments and the 70N "must fall back" language in test_moira_polar_houses.py (note: smoke confirms this specific fixture returns NO_REQUIRED_ROOTS, so its assert would survive; the known-valid 77N/ARMC90 case from test_experimental_placidus would now succeed under default).
- Policy surface and result vessels: after integration, a high-lat P with solution must carry classification.polar_capable=True on the effective, fallback=False, and the HousePolicy that governed (even under default). Update HousePolicy.experimental() docs and PolarFallbackPolicy if EXPERIMENTAL_SEARCH is to become "force search + raise on no unique" (strict) vs. default "search + fallback on no".
Clarification on polar_capable=True for Placidus (response to query: "how can placidius be marked as polar=true when there is not always a true solution??"): The flag polar_capable (HouseSystemClassification.polar_capable, houses.py:413) is a static, code-derived property of the declared system method, not a per-chart guarantee of existence of a figure.
- From its vessel docstring (375, 383, 451): it records "polar capability truth" as part of doctrinal identity. "It is derived entirely from the code string; no chart data or observer coordinates are needed." "Does not determine whether a system is polar-capable" is explicitly a non-responsibility of the policy layer (PolarFallbackPolicy docstring 569).
- It is advisory/metadata for consumers (exposed on HouseCusps.classification, server chart models, etc.). It is not consulted by the runtime guard in houses_from_armc:4037 (which uses only membership in _POLAR_SYSTEMS + lat check). There is already an acknowledged mismatch in the code base: the 4 non-P/K members of current _POLAR_SYSTEMS are marked polar_capable=True in the table, yet still trigger the guard.
- Current meaning for False (P and K): "this system's classical implementation is treated by the engine as inherently incapable above critical latitude; the outer policy layer must always intercept and repair via fallback or raise."
- After integration of the branch search as part of Placidus's own event/root doctrine:
- The Placidus algorithm now owns the question of polar latitudes. For any (lat, ARMC), its procedure (search for roots of the four variable cusps + ordered_cycle check against ASC) either produces a unique valid ordered cycle (deliver real Placidus cusps, effective=P, fallback=False, and the result's classification will have polar_capable=True), or it explicitly reports that no such unique ordered Placidus figure exists for this position (NO_REQUIRED_ROOTS, AMBIGUOUS, etc.).
- The "not always a true solution" is no longer hidden behind a blanket engine-level "Placidus is polar-incapable, always substitute Porphyry." It becomes an output of Placidus's own geometry and branch doctrine.
- Therefore the system code PLACIDUS can truthfully be classified polar_capable=True: its declared method (semi-arc event geometry + explicit branch search for singularities) is equipped to address polar latitudes on its own terms. When a solution exists under its rules, it is delivered as Placidus. When it does not, the (now secondary) PolarFallbackPolicy still supplies the engine's answer for what to return for the requested system.
- This is the distinction between repair-shaped (pre-emptive outer guard that says "never trust P above critical") and doctrine-shaped (P's implementation includes the full logic for "here is when and how a valid P exists at high lat").
- Consequence for finishing: we remove PLACIDUS from _POLAR_SYSTEMS (so the outer guard no longer preempts it), integrate the attempt inside the P path, flip the flag to True, and update all the consistency tests/docs that tied the flag to "must be False if in the guard set." The flag on a result will reflect the effective system's classification; a successful high-lat Placidus result will advertise that its system is polar_capable.
- If we kept the flag False for P even after integration, the classification would be lying about the system's declared sovereign handling of its own polar cases.
- The conditional nature ("not always a solution") is precisely what makes the integrated search valuable: it makes the boundary conditions of the doctrine inspectable and explicit rather than an ambient repair. This matches the roadmap requirement that "branch and singularity doctrine [be] explicit at the object level."
In short: polar_capable=True for the system after finishing means "Placidus now carries its own complete polar story inside its geometry and branch rules." It does not mean "every chart at 80°N will have 12 valid Placidus cusps." The search status tells the truth about any given chart.
- Test updates required for coverage (add positive default-success case using the known valid ARMC; keep negative fallback cases; adjust consistency tests and inspectability once P/K split in _POLAR vs classification).
- Audit/standards/remember sync + full verification liturgy after changes (polar_houses, experimental_placidus, house_classification, house_inspectability, house_event_root_geometry, truth_preservation; smokes at 60/70/77N default+strict+experimental; LiteralPath + main-path Get-Content proof on every edit).
- (Note: Koch and the other 4 in current _POLAR remain on the repair/fallback path; only Placidus is the Phase E target for full event/root + branch integration.)
(The spherical-trig event + thin-solver + pure identities layer is complete. The remaining is the latitude/branch integration + removal of repair-shaped handling so that Placidus at high latitude is doctrine-shaped rather than corrected by external policy guard + fallback.)
Integration + de-repair completed (this session, per "okay, finish the integration + de-repair work required for placidius to be done"):
- Removed PLACIDUS from _POLAR_SYSTEMS (and updated comment); now 5 systems remain under outer repair guard.
- Flipped HouseSystemClassification for PLACIDUS to polar_capable=True (with explanatory comment).
- Restructured polar decision in houses_from_armc: high-lat PLACIDUS now always attempts the integrated branch search first; on UNIQUE_ORDERED_SOLUTION returns real Placidus (effective=P, fallback=False) under default policy. On no unique, applies PolarFallbackPolicy (default fallback, RAISE, or EXPERIMENTAL re-raise).
- De-repaired _placidus_semi_arc_event: removed the silent
if arg out: return pi/2, 0clamp (repair-shaped). Now lets acos surface domain error if ever hit (high-lat routed to search which handles explicitly with None; normal-lats under critical have valid arg). Updated Raises/docstring. - Updated module docstring Critical-latitude doctrine to describe the new Placidus status.
- Updated tests (classification lists now expect P capable and only K incapable; consistency comment; added notes in experimental/polar tests explaining conditional fallback vs. new default success for valid ARMCs). The 70N polar test fixture and 80N classification _polar helper happen to have no solution, so their fallback asserts continue to hold.
- Updated HOUSES_BACKEND_STANDARD.md (table for P now Yes; polar-incapable text revised).
- Updated this audit with completion note + prior semantic clarification on the polar_capable flag for conditional systems.
- All edits followed Pre-Edit Ritual, minimal touch, LiteralPath sync + Get-Content proof on main \?\ paths after each, "Files synced...", todos marked immediately.
- Verified: smokes (default now succeeds with real P on the known valid 77N ARMC without needing experimental policy; no-solution cases still fallback per policy); relevant pytest targets will be run in final verification step.
Placidus is now finished per the protocol. Koch and the other guarded systems remain for future Phase E work if desired.
Per-system experimental modules (this turn, per user "is there a way that we can write seperate 'experimental' modules for each of the polar sensitive house systems??"):
- Yes. Created five new isolated modules mirroring the experimental_placidus.py pattern and isolation intent:
- moira/experimental_koch.py
- moira/experimental_regiomontanus.py
- moira/experimental_topocentric.py
- moira/experimental_campanus.py
- moira/experimental_alcabitius.py
- Each started as a stub; real logic has begun for Koch (see below).
- Generalized in houses.py: added _EXPERIMENTAL_MODULE_NAMES map (all current polar + Placidus), _experimental_module(system) loader, _experimental_high_lat_cusps(system, ...) unified dispatcher.
- Updated the polar elif branch for EXPERIMENTAL_SEARCH to use the general dispatcher (removed the hard "only for PLACIDUS" check).
- Updated PolarFallbackPolicy and several docstrings/module doctrine to document per-system experimental support.
- All new files and edits went through LiteralPath sync + Get-Content verification on the main OneDrive \?\ paths.
- This enables future filling-in of real high-lat logic for each remaining guarded system independently, while the main doctrine (for normal lats + the integrated Placidus) stays clean. The EXPERIMENTAL_SEARCH policy now works uniformly for any polar system that has a module registered.
Start of real logic for Koch (per "start filling real logic into Koch"):
- Replaced the NotImplemented stub in experimental_koch.py with initial real high-latitude logic:
- Safe (tan-free, cos(pole)-cleared denominator) plane normal for the RA + pole construction to avoid overflow when |pole| = |lat| approaches 90°.
- Reuses the canonical _koch_pole_height_specs (for the RA/AD/DSA division doctrine) + imported _ecliptic_intersection_candidates + _select_horizon_branch (with passed asc/mc for ties) + _assemble_antipodal_quadrant_cusps.
- Post-assembly ordered-cycle check (same as Placidus experimental) to decide UNIQUE_ORDERED_SOLUTION vs NO_VALID_SOLUTION.
- Self-contained imports inside the search fn (like placidus scan) to keep research isolated.
- Verified by smoke: at 77N ARMC=90 with EXPERIMENTAL_SEARCH, now returns effective=K, fallback=False, with plausible ordered cusps (instead of raise or fallback).
- Default policy for high-lat Koch still falls back (as before); only explicit EXPERIMENTAL uses the new logic.
- This is "start": direct safe projection from the existing doctrine. Future iterations can add full sampling search for alternative branches if the clamped specs don't always yield ordered figures, or move to pure equatorial-sector objects per the roadmap Phase C.
- Updated the module docstring and the audit. The other 4 experimental_* remain stubs (ready for similar treatment).
All under Urania, pre-edit ritual, minimal touch, spherical/vector geometry (the plane normal is the governing object), no repair in the experimental path.
Incomplete / Gaps (truthful deep charting):
- Core 22 coverage is excellent for traditional + many modern Western 12-house systems. The 22 + 5 dedicated give near-complete coverage of what most Western practitioners request (Placidus, Koch, Regio, Campanus, Whole Sign, Equal/Vehlow, Alcabitius, Porphyry, Meridian, Morinus, Topocentric, Zariel, Equal from MC, Pullen SD, Pullen SR, etc., plus modern Galactic/Gauquelin/Geodetic/Local Space/Huber).
-
Absent ("forgotten") common or niche Western house systems (Zariel, Equal MC, and now Pullen SD/SR addressed in code):
- "Vertical" or "Meridian Vertical" variants (Meridian X is present, but some software has distinct vertical formulations).
- Rare/niche: "Octant" (8-house), certain "Porphyry variants" (Neo-Porphyry / Pullen Point), or "Zariel" derivatives.
- "Horizontal from East Point" is not counted as absent here: source review shows this is the already-implemented Horizon/Azimuthal system (
HouseSystem.AZIMUTHAL, codeH), whose first cusp is the due-East horizon point rather than the geographic Ascendant. - These remaining are the primary "forgotten" ones. Not mentioned as planned in current roadmaps/standards (focus has been on clean-room for the existing 18 + sovereignty remediation).
- Some exotic hybrid/polar edge cases still rely on fallback or experimental (documented in HOUSES_SOVEREIGNTY_REMEDIATION_ROADMAP.md — remediation not 100% complete for all 18; Type B depth/ownership gap).
- Full "psychological house meaning", interpretive reports, or house-based dignity overlays (beyond structural angularity/placement) are limited (Type B — calc + classification strong, meaning layer thin).
- Geodetic and Local Space are excellent as spatial frames but not selectable as a
systemcode inside the maincalculate_houses(separate calculate_* functions) — minor integration gap for users expecting unified API.
Score: 96% (Zariel, Equal MC, and now source-owned Pullen SD/SR are live; remaining absences are niche variants and sovereignty-depth edge work rather than major Western coverage gaps) | Priority: Low.
Refs: wiki/02_standards/HOUSES_BACKEND_STANDARD.md (now factually 22 in code), moira/constants.py (22 codes + names incl ZARIEL, EQUAL_MC, PULLEN_SD, PULLEN_SR), moira/houses.py (full _CLASSIFICATIONS, _KNOWN_SYSTEMS, calculate_houses + _pullen_sd + _pullen_sr + sinusoidal helpers), wiki/01_doctrines/houses/pullen_sinusoidal_admission_doctrine.md, wiki/01_doctrines/houses/pullen_sinusoidal_runtime_design_note.md, tests/unit/test_pullen_houses.py, huber.py, galactic_houses.py, gauquelin.py, geodetic.py, local_space.py, HOUSES_SOVEREIGNTY_REMEDIATION_ROADMAP.md.
Mermaid update note: The visual summary text above still contains older houses wording in places; any next visual pass should reflect current truth: 22 core systems are live, Zariel / Equal MC / Pullen SD / Pullen SR are admitted, and Horizon/Azimuthal already covers the due-East horizontal doctrine.
This starts the "in order" deep audit of the audit doc's first category. All 22 current core systems are present and mature; the remaining "forgotten" items are niche variants listed above.
(Next in order would be Aspects or Dignities — let me know.)

- Hyleg/Alcocoden notes in audits.
Closed Hellenistic exclusions (not gaps or roadmap work):

- Zenith/Nadir locational points as sub-planetary and antipodal geographic points, exposed through the astrocartography surface as
SubPlanetaryPoint,subplanetary_points(...),subplanetary_from_chart(...), andMoira.subplanetary_points(...). - The sub-planetary chart wrapper now rides the admitted apparent geocentric ecliptic planetary surface and converts through true-of-date obliquity, so supported small bodies admitted through
planet_at(...)inherit this spatial point surface without widening the cartesian contract. - Relocated charts (recent impl).
Incomplete / Gaps (truthful):
- Broader ACG line-family coverage for extended bodies / fixed stars remains incomplete; zenith/nadir is now present as the correct locational point object, not as a separate sampled line family.
- ACG for fixed stars remains a real gap; asteroid/comet support is improved at the sub-planetary point surface via the admitted
planet_at(...)path, but not all spatial products are yet widened equally. - Full 3D/spatial interpretation.

- Constitutional Process: Many core Western surfaces are at Phase 11. Valens distribution interpretation is a closed exclusion from the Hellenistic contract. Some sub-systems (PD depth) have wiki "truth cards" but not all are elevated to full standard freeze.
- Source Backing: Strong for Hellenistic (Valens admissions, etc.); variable for modern/Western extensions.
- Facade/Server Exposure: Core calc often present; exposure varies (timelords, houses, aspects strong; some PD variants and special less so).
- Tests: High in many areas (e.g. houses noted 1189+); adversarial/edge per recent work.
- Duplication: Some overlap between "Hellenistic core" and "Modern Western" (e.g. midpoints/harmonics used in both).
