Ultimate CAN Scanner v0.2.5

Choose a tag to compare

@TorqueUpTech TorqueUpTech released this 20 Jul 08:28

Windows x64 self-contained build of Ultimate CAN Scanner — no .NET runtime install required.

This release is a ZIP, not a single .exe. It bundles a small 32-bit helper for the Tactrix
J2534 bridge (see below), which has to sit in a j2534host folder beside the app. Unzip the whole
folder and keep it together.

New in v0.2.5

  • Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 support (J2534). Tactrix ships only a 32-bit PassThru driver
(op20pt32.dll), which this 64-bit app can't load directly. It now reaches it through a bundled
32-bit bridge host: pick the J2534 adapter, choose OpenPort 2.0, and connect — RX/TX,
    decode and gauges work as with any backend. Any other 32-bit-only J2534 driver works the same way;
64-bit J2534 drivers still run in-process. The device list shows each driver's mode
    (e.g. op20pt32.dll — 32-bit (via bridge)).
  • Live Gauges: "only signals with data in log". A new gauge-panel checkbox hides CAN IDs and
signals that have no data in the loaded log, so the checklist and gauges show only what the capture
actually contains. Requires a log loaded; off by default.

Adapter backends

Ixxat VCI4, OBDX Pro (USB/WiFi/BLE), any generic SAE J2534 PassThru device (64-bit in-process
or 32-bit via the bridge), and GVRET / ESP32RET (USB serial or WiFi TCP).

Install / run

  1. Download UltimateCanScanner-win-x64.zip and unzip it.
  2. Run UltimateCanScanner.exe from the unzipped folder — keep the j2534host folder next to it
(only needed for 32-bit J2534 drivers like Tactrix; harmless otherwise).

Notes: 64-bit only. The Ixxat backend needs the HMS Ixxat VCI driver; J2534 backends need the
vendor's PassThru driver installed (Tactrix: the OpenPort 2.0 drivers).

Ultimate CAN Scanner v0.2.4

@TorqueUpTech TorqueUpTech released this 18 Jul 13:21

Windows x64 self-contained single-file build of Ultimate CAN Scanner — one .exe,
no .NET runtime install required.

New in v0.2.4

  • TCP ↔ bus bridge — a new Bridge → bus toggle wires the RawCanWire TCP server to
the connected adapter both ways: 13-byte frames a TCP client sends are transmitted onto the
    live CAN bus
, and frames received from the bus are broadcast to TCP clients. A per-frame
origin tag guards against feedback (a TCP-sourced frame is only sent to the bus, a bus-sourced
frame is only broadcast to TCP), so nothing loops. Each direction no-ops until its far side is
live — TCP→bus needs a connection, bus→TCP needs the server running — so the toggle is
safe to arm early. Off by default. Verified against a live GM ECU over Ixxat at 500 kbit/s.
  • Device-level CAN ID filter for the OBDX adapter — the OBDX Pro backend can now push an ID
allowlist into the device, so non-matching frames are dropped at the adapter and never cross the
USB/WiFi/BLE link (saving bandwidth, not just trimming the grid).

Adapter backends

Ixxat VCI4, OBDX Pro (USB/WiFi/BLE), any generic SAE J2534 PassThru device, and
GVRET / ESP32RET (USB serial or WiFi TCP).

Install / run

  1. Download UltimateCanScanner.exe.
  2. Run it — no unzip, no install.

Notes: 64-bit only. The Ixxat backend needs the HMS Ixxat VCI driver; the J2534 backend
needs the vendor's 64-bit PassThru driver. First launch may take a moment as the single-file
bundle self-extracts.

Ultimate CAN Scanner v0.2.3

@TorqueUpTech TorqueUpTech released this 13 Jul 17:01

Windows x64 self-contained single-file build of Ultimate CAN Scanner — one .exe,
no .NET runtime install required.

New in v0.2.3

  • Selectable TCP server port — the RawCanWire server port is now editable (defaults to
51729, editable while the server is stopped). Run several app instances, each on its own
port, to serve a different client simultaneously. Replay → TCP starts the server on the
    chosen port on demand.
  • Bidirectional TCP (receive traffic) — the TCP link is now full-duplex. A connected client
can push 13-byte RawCanWire frames back to the tool, and they appear as RX in the trace
grid and drive the live gauges, exactly like frames from a CAN adapter (honouring the ID
filter). Received frames are monitor-only — they are not injected onto the physical CAN bus.

Ultimate CAN Scanner v0.2.2

@TorqueUpTech TorqueUpTech released this 12 Jul 05:23

Windows x64 self-contained single-file build of Ultimate CAN Scanner — one .exe,
no .NET runtime install required.

Adapter backends: Ixxat VCI4, OBDX Pro (USB/WiFi/BLE), any generic SAE J2534 PassThru
device, and now GVRET / ESP32RET.

New in v0.2.2

  • GVRET / ESP32RET backend — talk to any GVRET / ESP32RET device (the open-source firmware
SavvyCAN speaks to) over the GVRET binary serial protocol, via USB serial or WiFi TCP
(ESP32RET SoftAP default 192.168.4.1:23). Pick Gvret in the Adapter picker, choose a COM
port or the WiFi endpoint, set the bitrate, and Connect. Full RX trace, transmit, listen-only,
extended IDs, and cyclic TX (with live value edits + rolling counters) work as with the other
backends. Byte layouts follow collin80/GVRET, cross-checked against SavvyCAN.

Note: RTR (remote-frame) transmit isn't supported by the GVRET binary protocol.

Install / run

  1. Download UltimateCanScanner.exe.
  2. Run it — no unzip, no install.

Notes: 64-bit only — 32-bit J2534 drivers are listed but not loadable. The Ixxat backend
needs the HMS Ixxat VCI driver installed; the J2534 backend needs the vendor's 64-bit PassThru
driver installed. First launch may take a moment as the single-file bundle self-extracts.

Ultimate CAN Scanner v0.2.1

@TorqueUpTech TorqueUpTech released this 11 Jul 13:36

Windows x64 self-contained single-file build of Ultimate CAN Scanner — one .exe,
no .NET runtime install required.

Adapter backends: Ixxat VCI4, OBDX Pro (USB/WiFi/BLE), and any generic SAE J2534
PassThru device (loaded from the installed vendor DLL).

New in v0.2.1

Transmit

  • Rolling / alive counters — tick Roll on a TX-list entry (auto-ticked for
counter-named signals) to send it as a rolling counter: every transmitted frame increments
it and it wraps at the DBC min/max. Queue the counter alongside the message's data signals
    and Repeat All.
  • Live value edits while repeating — editing the raw data box, the DBC signal value, or a
TX-list entry now updates the running cyclic stream in place (no stop/start).

Live Gauges

  • Deselect individual signals within an enabled CAN ID (not just all-or-nothing per ID).
  • Blank gauges when stale switch — clear a gauge to "—" when its message stops arriving
(~1.5 s) instead of holding the last value (off by default).

Filter

  • The CAN ID filter (v0.2.0) now also gates log replay — filtered-out IDs aren't
transmitted onto the bus / broadcast over TCP, not just hidden from the trace grid.

Ultimate CAN Scanner v0.2.0

Adapter backends: Ixxat VCI4, OBDX Pro (USB/WiFi/BLE), and any generic SAE J2534
PassThru device (loaded from the installed vendor DLL).

New in v0.2.0

  • RX ID filter for the trace grid — trim the live trace to just the CAN IDs you care
about. Allowlist (show only listed IDs) or blocklist (Exclude). Accepts space/comma-
separated hex IDs with an optional 0x prefix and inclusive ranges, e.g. 100 7E8 700-7FF.
Display-only: CSV logging and the live gauges still see every frame.

Install / run

  1. Download UltimateCanScanner.exe.
  2. Run it — no unzip, no install.

Notes: 64-bit only — 32-bit J2534 drivers are listed but not loadable. The Ixxat backend
