Texturing and Lighting

  • Post the multiple playtesting sessions and subsequent blockout modifications, the time was ripe to dive into the world of aesthetics. It was essential to ensure that the visual narrative aligned perfectly with the gameplay experience, to maintain immersion and atmosphere.

Texturing

  • Selecting the appropriate textures was more than just about visuals; it was about infusing the game environment with the intended atmosphere. While drawing from the theme research conducted during pre-production, I meticulously applied textures, ensuring every surface echoed the narrative I had in mind.

Lighting

  • Lighting, often underrated, plays a pivotal role in guiding players, setting moods, and emphasizing critical game elements. I played with light intensities, shadow depths, and color tones to orchestrate the perfect ambience. Highlights were added to significant pathways and landmarks, while shadows were employed to craft more ominous or hidden areas, creating a balanced interplay of visibility and mystery.

Textures and lighting aren't just cosmetic; they guide, inform, and enhance the player's journey, making them integral to the overall gaming experience.
