AM2R Android — 1.5.5.11 Hotfix 1

Standard Edition

  • Fixed touch controls being unable to select Super Missiles with weapon style
set to Hold. A Weapon Select button appears above Arm when both missile types
are available. Hold Arm and tap Weapon Select to switch missile types.
  • Toggle mode, physical controller controls and the earlier touch-timing
    improvement keep their existing behavior.

Dual Screen Edition

  • Retains the final public 1.5.5.11 gameplay, HUD and menu behavior.

Updating
Repatch your original AM2R 1.1 Windows ZIP and install over your existing edition.
Package IDs and signing are unchanged; game saves and settings are retained.
Do not uninstall the game first. Both game packages use version code 1005007;
the Autopatcher uses version code 11. All other 1.5.5.11 features remain included.

Downloads
The Autopatcher APK, three source archives and SHA256SUMS are
included. Complete playable game APKs are not distributed. Source licenses and
build limitations remain documented in each archive.

AM2R Android — 1.5.5.11

Builds the Standard or Dual Screen ARM64 Android edition from your own original
AM2R 1.1 Windows ZIP. The installed game runs independently of the autopatcher.

Changes since 1.5.5.10 Hotfix 1

  • Standard: touch controls are sampled before the gameplay input update, avoiding
the extra simulation-step delay. Physical-controller handling is preserved.
  • Dual Screen: HUD Style offers Large or Minimal for the lower screen. Large
is the default for new settings; existing choices are preserved. Large uses
separate health and ammo rows, tall blue energy bars, remaining ammo grouped
on the left, and the area title on the right. Metroid counters sit above the
area title with matching panel edges; completion percentage sits at the far
right of the timer strip. Minimal remains available, and HUD Style is disabled
when HUD Screen Position is Top Screen.
    One bottom toolbar shows + / - / 1x / Fit Map / Follow during play, and
Marker / Menu / Unpause on the paused map. All four profile layouts are updated.
  • Dual Screen: adds the Mining Facility map title and drill-chamber background.
  • Dual Screen: uses the dedicated Dual-Screen controller recommendation
artwork. Standard keeps its original controller recommendation screen.
  • Both games: updated launcher artwork and adaptive icons, clearer application
names, and Android game-category declarations. Existing package IDs and signing
compatibility are retained. Game version code increases to 1005006.
  • Both games: optional shared-folder save synchronization through Options → Data.
Checks run before file selection and after saving. Conflicting changes are held
for review and recovery copies are retained. Configure a separate file-sync
app to transfer the folder; see SAVE-SYNC.txt. Manual Backup / Restore remains.
  • Autopatcher: Android installation results are shown directly. Failed installs
create a local diagnostic file labeled "share this to github issues page",
with a Share action. Nothing is uploaded automatically. Cancellation is reported
separately, and the generated APK remains available in Downloads.
  • Autopatcher: native patch-library alignment and APK compatibility diagnostics
improve support and troubleshooting on newer Android devices.
  • Source: shared game metadata and independent artwork-export helpers are included.
Cocoon supports manual title/artwork editing; automatic custom-metadata import
has not been confirmed. Artwork payloads remain outside the code-only archives.

Updates and compatibility
Install over the existing edition to retain its private saves. Do not uninstall
first. Standard and Dual Screen remain separate apps with separate save storage;
use the existing Data backup/restore tools to transfer progress.

AYN Thor has physical test coverage. RG DS, Retroid Pocket Duo / Duo Lite and
AYANEO Pocket DS profiles still await physical validation. The pinned game runtime
has a remaining native 16 KB alignment limitation, so installation on every
16 KB-page device is not guaranteed. Include the new installer report when an
installation fails. Syncthing transfers passed between two isolated Android
emulators and a Linux PC, including conflict handling. Desktop import/export
remains manual. Physical-device sync, Windows/macOS and other services still
need feedback; no network service is built into the game.

Included files

The source archives retain code, resource definitions and required notices while
excluding image/audio/font payloads, game data, compiled games, patch bundles,
signing keys and revision history. Existing code licenses still apply. The
original 1.1 ZIP and complete playable game APKs are not included.

AM2R Android — 1.5.5.10 Hotfix 1

This hotfix updates the Dual Screen edition:

  • Restores the reactor core temperature bar exclusively on the upper screen.
  • Restores screen's 60 fps for smoother map panning, log scrolling and menus.
  • Adds Display Options → HUD Screen Position. Keep health and ammunition
below, or move them to the original upper HUD. The map, timer, completion
percentage and Metroid counts remain below. The choice is saved.
  • Restores upper-screen area-arrival titles and preserves the HUD while paused.

To update, install the new autopatcher, choose Dual Screen, patch your original
AM2R 1.1 Windows ZIP again, then install the generated APK over your existing
game. Back up first; do not uninstall the game. Updating the autopatcher alone
does not update an installed game. Standard users do not need to repatch.

The release includes the autopatcher APK, three code-only source ZIPs and
SHA256SUMS. Source media and signing files are excluded; original code licenses
and attribution are retained. No complete game APK is distributed.

AM2R Android — 1.5.5.10

An update to 1.5.5.9, with new area backdrops and display fixes. The autopatcher
turns your own copy of the original AM2R 1.1 Windows release (AM2R_11.zip)
into either the Standard or Dual Screen Android edition. Nothing playable is
hosted here.

AYN Thor has been tested on physical hardware and confirmed working.
RG DS, Retroid Pocket Duo / Duo Lite and AYANEO Pocket DS profiles are included,
but physical compatibility remains unconfirmed. Desktop display tests do
not establish performance on those handhelds.

Changelog since 1.5.5.9

Dual Screen [CONTAINS SPOILERS]

  • Added the standard menu sounds to first-boot hardware selection, for changing
the highlighted profile and confirming by controller or touch.

  • Replaced the temporary log-picture map backgrounds with 28 selected room
views, treated with a green palette to match the map. Different subareas
have their own backgrounds, including the intact egg in the laboratory.

  • Added changing backgrounds for the activated tower and the Power Plant
before and after the escape. Area headings follow the current background,
    with transitions between them.

  • Reframed the inner Tower using the room before Plasma Beam, with matching
dark and powered views. The Distribution Center interior now uses one
sawblade-room view, with a separate underwater room view.

  • Changed filled energy tanks to yellow (#F2CE45) on the lower HUD. Selected
weapons use yellow Standard-style artwork with subtle scanlines and rounded
corners inside the green dividers. The separate selection underline is removed.
Hold mode turns the selected box white while the weapon button is held.
Empty tanks remain gray and unselected weapons remain green.

  • Added a red pulse to the lower health digits using the original low-energy
warning thresholds and timing. Corrected HUD recoloring on mobile GPUs.

  • Area pictures and headings now wait for the original environment scan.
Industrial Complex stays undiscovered until its scan trigger beyond the tall
wall. Saved discoveries are reused on return visits, and a completed scan
updates the map without requiring another room transition.

  • Fixed a brief GFS Thoth picture and heading appearing when starting or loading
a save. The lower map now starts with the selected save's current area.

  • Kept the title-screen version label inside the RG DS profile's centered 4:3
picture when it is used on a wider display.

  • Cached translated lower-map headings to avoid repeated language-file reads
while drawing. Captions refresh when the selected language changes.

  • Kept the lower map visible during normal room transitions, without the
previous blackout. The area's picture and heading can change while it remains
    visible.

  • Matched the reactor escape's white flash across both screens. This also
applies when the escape timer expires; the lower display clears for Game Over.
The successful escape retains the original drain to 05 energy.

  • Preserved the selected 8-bit palette when pausing. With a palette enabled,
the upper screen fades to 70% dimming; with the shader off, it fades to Olive
with 50% dimming. Pausing no longer briefly reveals the unfiltered picture.

  • Set IGT Display to Enabled and made it read-only in Dual Screen Extras,
matching the timer that is always present on the lower display.

Both game editions

  • Restored the left Chozo statue's raised arm in the Golden Temple's three-switch
    item room and mirrored that statue. This changes the decorative tiles;
room collisions, pickups and puzzle behavior are unchanged.

Autopatcher and source

  • Rebuilt both edition payloads with these changes.
  • Raised the autopatcher version to 1.5.5.10 and its internal build number to 8.
Both generated games report version 1.5.5.10 and retain their existing package
names, signing certificate and game version code.
  • Refreshed the separate code-only archives for Standard, Dual Screen and the
autopatcher, including build notes, license notices and excluded-input manifests.

Updating

  1. Install AM2R-Autopatcher-1.5.5.10.apk on ARM64 Android 10 or newer.
  2. Choose Standard or Dual Screen and patch your original AM2R_11.zip again.
  3. Install the newly generated game APK over the same edition. Back up first;
updating preserves saves, while uninstalling the game deletes its private saves.

Updating the autopatcher alone does not update an already installed game.
Once installed, the game launches independently of the autopatcher.
Standard and Dual Screen use separate save storage. Use Options → Data →
Backup / Restore to transfer progress between editions or PC Community Updates
1.5.5. Compatibility with original 1.1 or other mods' saves is not implied.

Downloads and source

  • AM2R-Autopatcher-1.5.5.10-source.zip
  • AM2R-1.5.5.10-standard-source.zip
  • AM2R-1.5.5.10-dual-source.zip
  • SHA256SUMS

Keep these five files together and run sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS to verify them.
The three source archives contain editable code and build/resource definitions.
Images, audio, font payloads, datafiles, compiled binaries, generated patch
payloads, signing material and revision history are excluded from the sources.
The Android autopatcher APK contains the patch data needed to patch your ZIP.

Game code retains the AM2R Community Updates license and original attribution;
autopatcher code retains its MIT notice and xdelta3 its Apache 2.0 notice. The
palette implementation includes its MIT notice. These are code-only exports,
not complete projects that build without additional local inputs. Each README
explains restoration and the pinned build environment. A game rebuild from only
the original Windows 1.1 ZIP is not verified.

Verification and remaining coverage

The generated game APKs retain their release signatures and are checked against
their signed build checksums. Both edition payloads are reconstructed from the
original ZIP and compared byte-for-byte with those builds.

Focused checks cover normal room crossings, selected palettes while pausing,
the IGT setting, both reactor outcomes and the statue room. The new HUD colors
were checked across all four profiles, including health changes and weapon
selection; the new room pictures were checked with the original scan gates.
New and continued saves were checked across all four profiles, including returning
from GFS Thoth to a new save. The title label was checked in widescreen and at
640x480. Cached headings were compared with the original text and drawing across
all 13 bundled languages, including language changes and area-name fades.
These do not amount to a new full-game playthrough. AYN Thor is the physically confirmed Dual Screen
device; the other profiles still need testing on their actual handhelds.
This release does not guarantee 60 fps on every device. Please include the device,
Android version, selected profile and reproduction steps with issue reports.

@am2r-android am2r-android released this 05 Oct 17:06

AM2R Android — 1.5.5.9

Full 1.5.5.9 release, following Preview 1. The autopatcher turns your own copy
of the original AM2R 1.1 Windows release (AM2R_11.zip) into either the Standard
or Dual Screen Android edition. Nothing playable is hosted here.

Changelog since Preview 1

Dual Screen

  • Improved lower-screen alignment across all four profiles: full-width status
bars and map controls, centered pause pages, corrected log-page borders,
energy-tank spacing, the Energy icon and the Power Bomb selection indicator.
  • Fit Map now chooses a scale for each lower display using the revealed map's
occupied bounds. Small maps stay closer; larger maps fit within the usable
space on the 4:3 profiles, with room outlines and rounded corners retained.
  • The grid stays aligned to the map tiles at every zoom level, with thinner,
    dimmer lines when zoomed out. Fit Map temporarily frames the revealed map;
Follow returns to the last manually chosen zoom, and 1x restores normal scale.
  • Area backdrops cover the complete map viewport without stretching. The map
heading changes with the current area, using the same area selection.
  • Refined title, options and pause-page presentation. Removed redundant touch
navigation strips from the title's menus; map and pause-page touch controls
    remain available.
  • Improved launch and return from a lower-screen launcher such as Cocoon, so
gameplay returns to the upper display and the lower view resumes with it.
The warm return reuses the game session and briefly retains its lower image.
  • Lower-screen map and pause buttons now play the existing menu sound when an
action is accepted. Dragging and pinching remain silent.

Both game editions and source

  • Missing saved controller bindings now fall back to the initialized Android
defaults instead of older hard-coded values. Existing saved bindings remain.
  • Added short explanatory source comments across the games and autopatcher.
  • Limited cleanup replaces numeric display-mode labels with named constants
in Dual Screen and repeated trail-history assignments with descending loops
in both editions. The original update order and history lengths are retained.

Autopatcher

  • Rebuilt the edition payloads with the final game changes above.
  • Edition choices stack when the screen is too narrow for both labels. Button
labels stay on one line, including on the Thor lower display and 4:3 screens.
  • Adjusted the ending artwork to use the available space more consistently.
  • Added the original AM2R menu beep to button presses and controller focus moves.
It follows media volume and stays silent during the intro.
  • Raised the internal app build number from 6 to 7, allowing this package to
update Preview 1. The displayed version remains 1.5.5.9.
  • Added separate code-only source archives for Standard, Dual Screen and the
autopatcher, with license notices, build notes and excluded-input manifests.

Included in 1.5.5.9

  • Separate Standard and Dual Screen installations. Dual Screen keeps gameplay
above a live lower map, health, ammunition and item percentage. Touch can pan
and zoom while gameplay continues. Pausing freezes and dims gameplay with
the Olive palette while map, inventory, logs and settings remain below.
  • First-boot hardware selection, also available in Display Options. RG DS locks
upper gameplay to 4:3; on other profiles the aspect-ratio option affects only
the upper display. Retroid Pocket Duo and Duo Lite share a profile.
  • Automatic Android scaling in both editions, replacing the manual Scaling option.
  • Save backup and restore between the Android editions and PC Community Updates
1.5.5, including validation, destination-slot selection and recovery copies.
Controller bindings and settings remain specific to each installation.
  • A landscape autopatcher with animated ending-screen artwork, the star backdrop
and game menu lettering. Choose an edition, select the original ZIP, then
install the verified output from Downloads. The installed game launches
independently; the autopatcher is not needed to start it.

Updating

  1. Install AM2R-Autopatcher-1.5.5.9.apk on ARM64 Android 10 or newer.
  2. Choose Standard or Dual Screen and patch your original AM2R_11.zip again.
  3. Install the newly generated game APK over the same edition. Back up first;
updating preserves saves, while uninstalling the game deletes its private saves.

Updating the autopatcher alone does not update an already installed game.
Standard and Dual Screen use separate save storage. Use Options → Data →
Backup / Restore to transfer progress. Save compatibility with original 1.1
or other mods is not implied.

the original Windows 1.1 ZIP is not verified.

Verification and remaining coverage

Both edition outputs are checked against their signed build checksums. Focused
GameMaker runtime checks compare the old and updated trail behavior; automated
patcher checks cover edition selection and rejected or damaged inputs.

AYN Thor is the physically confirmed Dual Screen device. Other profiles still
need testing on their actual handhelds. This release does not claim a completed
full playthrough or guarantee 60 fps on every device. Please include the device,
Android version, selected profile and reproduction steps with issue reports.

v1.5.5.7

Choose a tag to compare

@am2r-android am2r-android released this 22 Jul 22:57
f342faa

AM2R Android — 1.5.5.7

Feature release. As always, nothing playable is hosted here: the patcher
turns your own copy of the original AM2R 1.1 release (AM2R_11.zip) into
the Android build. Previous patched apks will update over newer versions, saves are kept.

Added

  • Controller freezing/swapping fixed. Both inputs are now always
active: a controller disconnect no longer leaves the game waiting, touch
takes over instantly. The on-screen controls appear when you touch the
screen and fade after ~4 seconds idle; while a controller is connected, a
stray touch only shows the overlay instead of firing inputs. (optimized for Retroid Pocket 6)
  • Save backup and restore, with two-way PC transfer. Options → Data can
copy your saves to any folder you pick, and restore them slot-by-slot —
with a preview of each save (time, items, difficulty) and a choice of
which slot it lands in. Transfer works in both directions with the
original PC release: a copy of your PC save folder (Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\AM2R, Linux: ~/.config/AM2R) restores directly, and
backups made on Android are written in the PC save format, so a backup
folder copied into the PC save directory just works. Records data
(statistics and completion records) transfers too. Saves are encrypted
with a per-build key, so the port converts formats automatically in both
    directions.
  • "Scaling" display option. Display Options → Scaling switches between
Fill Screen (uses the whole screen) and Pixel Perfect
(whole-number scaling for perfectly sharp pixels with
small black borders. Optimized for Retroid Pocket 6). Fill Screen is also noticeably sharper than before, matching the PC look. (Thanks to a handheld player's
    reports.)
  • Fusion, New Game+ and Random Game+ are available from the start.
Veterans no longer need to re-earn the unlocks to access the extra modes.

Changed

  • New boot screen artwork. The "a controller is recommended" screen has
a fresh controller sprite. sprite made by Shikibu (@zora64864348 on X)

Fixed

  • On-screen controls no longer get stuck on every menu after visiting
Options → Control Options with a controller connected.

Updating

  • Run the patcher (Android app or PC script) against your AM2R_11.zip.
  • Installing the result over 1.5.5.6 (or any earlier 1.5.5.x) keeps your
    saves.
  • A genuine patched APK reports this SHA-256:
3cee42d61b9458bbdd206229ba5099c5360e0915b466afd2b777390827a9b59c

The patcher verifies this automatically and refuses to emit an unverified
result.

@am2r-android am2r-android released this 19 Jul 03:07
e58654e

AM2R for Android — 1.5.5.6

Minor fix. Saves are kept — install right over your current version.

Fixed

  • Screen shake works again. Omega and Zeta landings, the Queen fight and
the escape-sequence earthquakes are all supposed to kick the screen — in
widescreen mode the shake offset was applied in physical pixels, which on
a modern phone panel rounds to "nothing at all". The offset is now scaled
to game pixels, restoring the original 4:3 shake feel everywhere.

  • Widescreen can be disabled again. Letterboxing still applies on widescreen.

Install: see the README. Bring your own original AM2R 1.1 (AM2R_11.zip); the patcher verifies it and builds the game on your phone.

AM2R for Android — v1.5.5.5

Stability update: four fixes, three of them for bugs around leaving and returning to the app. Saves are kept — install right over your current version.

Fixed

  • Game Over screen not displaying "GAME OVER". The title text was being drawn underneath the background art; only the edge peeking past the background's left border was visible.
  • Fatal error in The Tower after the detonation event. Entering one specific room after detonating the bomb crashed with "unable to convert string to bool".
  • Crash when returning to the game in dark areas. Switching away from the app and back, then unpausing in a light-engine room (caves, dark interiors) could crash with a surface error. The lighting surface is now rebuilt after Android reclaims it.
  • Map/pause screen brightening after switching apps. Coming back from the home screen washed the frozen pause frame out brighter.

Known issues

  • Letterboxing on screens taller than 16:9 is intentional (matches PC framing, widescreen is permanently enabled and the toggle does not work due to this).

Install: see the README. Bring your own original AM2R 1.1 (AM2R_11.zip); the patcher verifies it and builds the game on your phone.

@am2r-android am2r-android released this 15 Jul 16:50

AM2R for Android — v1.5.5.4

The feature-completeness update: palette recolors and GameBoy display mode are in, plus a graphics fix for 1080p phones. Install over the existing app — saves are kept (do not uninstall first).

Added

  • Suit and Metroid palette swapping is back. The palette system the PC release uses (PixelatedPope's Retro Palette Swapper, now open source under MIT) has been integrated, replacing the placeholder that shipped in earlier versions. Fusion mode now shows its proper suit colors and Metroid recolors, exactly like the PC game. Custom palette mods work the same way they do on PC.
  • GameBoy display mode is back. The original shader asset the PC game used is no longer available anywhere, so this port ships its own clean-room implementation: the full frame quantized to four shades in your choice of the classic palettes (Olive, Blue, Black & White, Virtualtroid, Green, or Custom). Toggle it under Extras in the options.

Fixed

  • Jagged on pixel edges at 1080p and similar screen resolutions. At display sizes that aren't an exact multiple of the game's internal resolution (2400x1080 is 4.5x), pixels rendered unevenly.
  • Several palette mod files (space-jump trails, spiderball glow, morph-ball trail colors) silently failed to load on Android due to a file-path case mismatch — they now load as on PC.

Known issues

  • Letterboxing on screens taller than 16:9 is intentional (matches PC framing)

How to get it — bring your own AM2R 1.1

This release is distributed autopatcher-style, like every AM2R community
release: you supply your own copy of the original AM2R 1.1 release
(AM2R_11.zip), and the patcher builds the game on your phone, verified
byte-for-byte.

  1. Get your AM2R_11.zip onto your phone (Downloads, SD card, a cloud app —
anywhere the file picker can reach).
  2. Install AM2R-Patcher-1.5.5.4.apk below (allow installs from your file
    manager when Android asks).
  3. Open AM2R Patcher, tap Choose AM2R_11.zip…, pick your zip, wait about
a minute, then tap Install AM2R.

Only the genuine, unmodified AM2R 1.1 game data is accepted — the patcher
checks it automatically and rejects anything else.

Patched-APK SHA-256 (your output will match this exactly):
5a7add34d34351a7f06b6fac4bafc227a57ffe0e721750eb2dab3dc75e6467db

Already have 1.5.5.3 installed? The patched APK installs right over it —
saves are kept (do not uninstall first).

Found a bug? Open an issue with your device model, Android version, where in the game it happened, and a screenshot/recording if possible.
