Crates
Crates are collectible fishing rewards that can be placed as blocks or opened directly as items. They stack to 8 and use their own loot tables.
| Crate | Fishing location |
|---|---|
| Wooden Crate | General Overworld fishing |
| Iron Crate | General Overworld fishing |
| Golden Crate | General Overworld fishing and Nether fishing |
| Diamond Crate | General Overworld fishing |
| Supply Crate | Plains, forests, and rivers in the Overworld |
| Frosted Crate | Icy biomes |
| Slimey Crate | Swamp and Mangrove Swamp biomes |
| Astral Crate | Fishing under a full moon in the Overworld |
| Fiery Crate | Nether fishing |
| Soul Crate | Soul Sand Valley fishing |
| Gilded Blackstone Crate | Basalt Deltas fishing |
| End Crate | End fishing |
Crate entries are selected through fishing loot tables. The location conditions above are more important than the crate's appearance: moving to another biome or dimension changes the available table.
- Hold the crate item.
- Hold sneak and use the item while looking at air or a block.
- The crate is consumed for survival players and its loot is dropped at the player's position.
Opening a crate does not create a chest GUI. If the player is sneaking while targeting a block, the item refuses the placement interaction so that sneak-use opens the crate instead.
Fake players and automated fishing systems receive the vanilla fishing table and cannot obtain Go Fish crates through fishing.
Players in Creative mode do not consume the crate.
Crates can be placed and mined as blocks. The current project definitions assign these intended tool tiers:
| Tool requirement | Crates |
|---|---|
| Axe | Wooden Crate, Supply Crate |
| Stone pickaxe or better | Iron Crate, Frosted Crate |
| Iron pickaxe or better | Golden, Diamond, Fiery, Soul, Gilded Blackstone, and Astral Crates |
| Diamond pickaxe or better | End Crate |
These tiers describe the current project tags and block material definitions. A modpack that overrides the relevant tags can change effective harvesting behavior.
The exact contents are generated from loot tables and can contain multiple rolls. The following summaries describe the current categories and notable Go Fish rewards.
| Crate | Typical rewards |
|---|---|
| Wooden Crate | Cobwebs, string, kelp, sticks, seaweed, basic ores and ingots, crops, experience bottles, books, emeralds, buckets, vanilla fish, and damaged tools or weapons. |
| Iron Crate | Reduced junk, coal and metals, food, lapis, redstone, iron equipment, books, emeralds, and vanilla fish. |
| Golden Crate | Golden food, gold materials, damaged or enchanted golden equipment, Golden Fish, and a rare enchanted golden apple. |
| Diamond Crate | Ores, ingots, gems, experience bottles, horse armor, name tags, golden apples, and enchanted golden apples. |
| Supply Crate | One supply category: crops, prepared food, mining materials, fishing supplies, or raw meat. |
| Frosted Crate | Snow and ice materials, coal and iron resources, Frosted Rods, books, and icy fish. |
| Slimey Crate | Slime Balls, Slime Blocks, Slimefish, Lilyfish, and Slime Rods. |
| Fiery Crate | Nether materials, blaze and skeletal rods, Netherite resources, and Nether fish. |
| Soul Crate | Soul-themed materials, Netherite resources, Rods of Souls, and enchanted books. |
| Gilded Blackstone Crate | Blackstone, gold, Nether fish, Golden Fish, enchanted golden rewards, lava supplies, and rare Nether loot. |
| Astral Crate | Full-moon fish, a chance for a Celestial Rod including enchanted variants, iron, diamonds, glass, and enchanted books. |
| End Crate | End fish, End treasure, Eye of Fishing and Matrix Rods, obsidian, crying obsidian, and End Stone. |
Wooden, Iron, Golden, and Diamond Crates form the general Overworld progression. Biome and dimension crates add specialized rewards rather than simply upgrading the same table. Astral and End Crates are especially valuable because they contain unique fish, rods, and treasure.
