Releases: astroboii47/Commander
Release list
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 5.1
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 5.1
This hotfix corrects launcher and keyboard shortcut routing introduced in alpha 5.
Play Protect notice: Commander is distributed directly through GitHub rather than Google Play. Play Protect may therefore describe the app as unknown or block installation. Commander also offers optional sensitive Android features such as Accessibility, notification access, contacts, SMS, and file access. Download only from this release, verify the attached SHA-256 checksum, and do not disable Play Protect globally. More information is available in the setup guide.
Fixes
- Fixed generic Commander and keyboard shortcut launches sometimes opening App Switcher instead of Commander Hub.
- Restored Commander Hub as the unambiguous primary launcher destination.
- Added a dedicated App Switcher shortcut for keyboard mappers, launchers, and automation tools that support Android app shortcuts.
- Fixed Recent Apps occasionally restoring
recin the filter field after opening from home typing.
Notes
- If an existing keyboard mapping still opens App Switcher, remove and recreate that mapping so the shortcut app discards its cached activity target.
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 5
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 5
This alpha adds native task management, system controls, app switching, file actions, and another substantial round of Commander Hub refinements.
Play Protect notice: Commander is distributed directly through GitHub rather than Google Play. Play Protect may therefore describe the app as unknown or block installation. New in this build
- Added a native Todoist Tasks view for today's and overdue tasks. It includes filtering, project and priority details, due dates and times, recurring indicators, and direct Todoist hand-off.
- Added keyboard-first task actions. Arrow keys navigate, Enter completes, and Shift+Enter opens the selected task in Todoist.
- Added task-card completion feedback with an accent glow and checked state.
- Added Quick Controls for flashlight, rotation, brightness, volume, media, ringer mode, theme, screen recording, QR scanning, caffeine, screen dimming, Mini Mode, Scroll Assistant, and battery protection where supported.
- Added typed values and modes for brightness, volume, ringer state, theme state, and battery protection.
- Added All Apps and Recent Apps views with searchable, fully navigable lists.
- Added App Switcher with recent-task previews, filtering, keyboard navigation, Enter to switch, and swipe up to close.
- Added a keyboard-driven file actions menu with Open, Open in app, Preview, Reveal in folder, File info, and Delete.
- Added file-type icons and viewport-aware preview loading for long file and folder lists.
- Added app-provided notification actions, Android Snooze, matching action icons, inline feedback, expandable details, notification images, and swipe-right flagging in Commander Hub.
Fixes and improvements
- Improved Quick Control state feedback so toggles remain visible and repeatable.
- Improved App Switcher preview caching, task ordering, and hidden-task filtering.
- Improved plain Tasker alias ranking and immediate execution for exact matches.
- Improved Hub notification title extraction, deduplication, reply continuity, metadata alignment, action-menu sizing, and return-to-Hub behaviour.
- Added minimal Hub scroll indicators and fixed clipped categories, bottom rows, and long action menus on smaller displays.
- Fixed keyboard navigation and selection visibility across long app, shortcut, alias, Settings, file, action, Tasks, Hub, and App Switcher lists.
- Fixed file actions losing the previous query and selection after returning from previews or external apps.
- Fixed filtered Todoist rows being clipped, due-date columns shifting between selections, and task completion lighting the command bar instead of the selected task.
Notes
- Todoist Tasks requires direct Todoist integration and an API token configured in Commander Settings.
- Some Quick Controls depend on device support, Android permissions, app shortcuts, or Shizuku. Unsupported controls are reported without changing system state.
- App Switcher capabilities and preview availability vary by Android version and device software.
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 4.1
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 4.1
This alpha expands Commander Hub with notification actions, clearer feedback, improved deduplication, and consistent keyboard-first navigation.
New in this build
- Added a unified Hub actions menu with Open, Reply, Dismiss, app-provided notification actions, and notification ignore controls.
- Added keyboard access to Hub actions with P, arrow-key navigation, Enter or O to activate, and U to return to the Hub list.
- Added destructive-action confirmation for actions such as Delete.
- Added selected-action glow feedback and Commander success or error states for notification actions.
- Added Hub navigation, launch, and confirmation sounds using the existing Commander sound and volume settings.
Fixes and improvements
- Fixed long Hub action lists so every option remains visible and keyboard navigation scrolls correctly on smaller displays.
- Improved notification opening so Back can return to Hub where Android permits normal caller navigation.
- Added conservative deduplication for equivalent group headers, message rows, and missed-call notifications.
- Suppressed short-lived action receipts such as "message archived" after Commander has already shown the result.
- Improved Todoist reminder titles so Hub displays the task name when Todoist supplies it.
- Improved plain-text Tasker aliases so exact tasks are ranked alongside apps and execute immediately when selected.
- Normalised Hub action labels for consistent capitalization.
Notes
- Hub only exposes actions supplied by the originating Android notification. Available actions vary by app and notification type.
- Matching action receipts are hidden only inside Commander Hub. Unrelated notifications from the same app are preserved.
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 4
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 4
This alpha expands every major result list, improves preview loading, and adds finer control over Commander Hub notifications and replies.
New in this build
- Added complete, keyboard-navigable result lists for apps, app shortcuts, Settings, aliases, Tasker tasks, files, folders, and contacts.
- Added viewport-aware app icon and file preview loading. Rows populate as they become visible without decoding every result in advance.
- Added notification ignore rules for individual conversations, notification types, and entire apps.
- Added an Ignored notifications section under Hub Manage where rules can be reviewed and restored.
- Added an option to keep the Hub reply popup open after sending. Keeping it open is the default.
Fixes and improvements
- Fixed an app-search crash caused by temporary duplicate row identities while results refreshed.
- Fixed long result lists so keyboard navigation continues beyond the initial viewport and keeps the selected row visible.
- Fixed result positioning after returning from a search.
- Kept protective spacing below result lists without adding unwanted spacing above the first row.
- Improved app icon and file thumbnail reliability when scrolling by touch or keyboard.
- Improved Hub reply reconciliation to prevent duplicate outgoing bubbles and repeated sends.
- Kept the reply conversation visible when the originating notification is replaced or removed after sending.
- Improved physical-keyboard alias acceptance and prevented duplicate Enter callbacks from executing an alias prematurely.
Notes
- Notification ignore rules are local to Commander and do not remove matching notifications from Android's notification shade.
- Preview loading is limited to visible rows to preserve search speed and avoid unnecessary storage or package-manager work.
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 3.1
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 3.1
This small patch makes Commander Hub's seen state work naturally with keyboard navigation.
Changes
- Notifications now become seen in Commander after remaining selected with keyboard navigation for 300 ms.
- The selected row keeps its strong glow, then appears grey after navigation moves away from it.
- Quickly passing through rows does not mark them seen.
- Opening a reply popup with O or Enter now marks that notification seen in Commander.
- Seen state remains local to Commander and does not dismiss or mark the notification read in its originating app.
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 3
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 3
This alpha makes aliases easier to discover, adds direct Android Settings search, and improves Commander Hub reliability and organisation.
New in this build
- Added alias suggestions when a shared alias trigger is typed. Results include app and Tasker icons, keyboard navigation, and touch scrolling.
- Added a configurable Android Settings alias, saved as
.setby default. With the trigger-swap option enabled, it appears as!set. - Added searchable shortcuts to common Android Settings destinations including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, battery, accessibility, notification access, default apps, keyboard, privacy, storage, and developer options.
- Added an optional web-search fallback when app search has no matches.
- Added touch long-press on app results to open Android App info.
- Added Finance and Tasks categories with dedicated Hub icons.
- Added Auto, Always, and Hidden visibility modes for every optional Hub tab.
- Reorganised Commander Settings into clearer feature categories.
Fixes and improvements
- Improved Hub summary detection so ordinary notifications used as Android group headers remain in their normal category.
- Improved incoming and outgoing message detection for supported messaging notifications.
- Fixed unread highlighting so closing Hub or dismissing one item does not mark every notification as read.
- Fixed keyboard navigation through long Hub and alias lists so the selected item remains visible.
- Improved spacing at the bottom of long Hub lists.
- Prevented the web-search fallback from triggering automatic single-result app launch.
Notes
- Hidden summary rows remain in Android's notification shade. Cancelling an Android group summary can also remove its individual notifications, so Commander hides summaries locally instead.
- Settings destinations use public Android intents where available. Unsupported destinations fall back to the main Settings screen.
- Automatic Hub categories are best-effort. Per-app category choices in Hub Manage always take priority.
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 2
Commander 0.1.0 alpha 2
This alpha expands search hand-offs and makes Android permission requests clearer.
New in this build
- Added structured Google Maps previews for place searches and directions.
- Added natural directions parsing for
from,to, driving, walking, cycling, and transit. - Added Gmail aliases that open Gmail search and enter the query through scoped accessibility automation.
- Added 1Password search hand-off through its published Search shortcut, with local query entry through Commander's accessibility service.
- Added Waze search and current-location navigation previews.
- Removed the root-assisted home-typing option from the public build.
- Added an explained contact-access action when
@or#is first used. - Added contact permission status and access controls to Commander Settings.
- Kept SMS permission tied only to the optional direct-SMS setting.
Notes
- Search aliases remain disabled until you assign one or more aliases in Commander Settings.
- Google Maps place suggestions are not included in this build. Searches and directions are handed to Maps after confirmation.
- 1Password must be unlocked before Commander can enter the search query. Its Android shortcut does not accept query extras, so this integration requires Commander's accessibility service.
- Waze can navigate from the current location to a destination. Its public deep links do not accept a custom starting point.

Important limitations
- This is alpha software. Features may change and bugs are expected.
- Home-screen typing depends on Accessibility, the active launcher, and device keyboard behaviour.
- Commander Home is experimental and hidden in this release.
- WhatsApp and Messenger features depend on shortcuts, app intents, or live notifications with reply actions.
- Notification replies are only available when the originating app exposes Android direct reply.
- Blur appearance varies across Android versions and firmware.
- Gemini and Todoist credentials are not included in exported settings backups.
Please report issues with your phone model, Android version, keyboard, launcher, and clear reproduction steps.
If Commander is useful to you, optional support is available on Ko-fi.
