Lot v1.3.0
Changed
- The great crisis of a life is a real calamity of its time and place, no longer the same "Hard times" everywhere: 64 of them, from a stone-age grass fire and the Nile that did not rise to the Black Death, the Irish blight, the Spanish flu, the slump, the Russian nineties and the plant that closed. Each has its own doors and outcomes, and it comes at 30, 33, 36 or 42.
- What to leave behind and the last wish are drawn from 32 forks each, by era, region, children and station: the land among the sons, the dowry, the workshop, the savings book, the hajj, Kashi, the Kyiv caves, a call to a son abroad.
- Forks that span several eras now play out by era: 509 new outcomes, so the stranger at the door is a runaway slave in Babylon and a deserter in 1812.
- 62 new everyday forks, most for the stone age, the ancient world and the industrial age.
- Work at twelve and marriage are told by time and place: clay tablets, bamboo slips and the parish primer; the matchmaker's eight characters, the astrologer, the registry office.
- A life's lines and forks follow the year it has reached, not the year it was born: born in 1936, it reads of the war and then of the television.
- The chest shows the years a keepsake has been in the family, not only the generations.
Fixed
- Lines from Southeast Asia (buffaloes, durian, rubber trees) no longer come to every coastal land.
- A peasant girl in the old eras is shut out of letters by her station, as her brothers are, and no longer gets the door to learn in secret.
- Someone who has sailed to America no longer sees a son or a cousin leave for America.
- A slave's uncle no longer sits the state exams.
Lot v1.2.3
Changed
- The unfree are married off by their master, not by their parents, and a master decides a sister's fate in a fork of its own.
- At two a child gets toddler lines only (first steps, first word, the rooster, the scar on the forehead): no goats to herd, lessons or lost milk teeth.
Fixed
- Lines and forks about a daughter's wedding, sons at work and school, and grandchildren wait 8, 16 or 36 years after the first child instead of coming the year the children are born.
- A child's line no longer names an age it may not be.
Lot v1.2.2
Added
- A girl kept from her letters (before the printing age, in the oldest times even in a scribe's house) can try to learn in secret: half of them do, half are caught.
Fixed
- A great-grandchild of someone who could read, or a child of scribes, clergy or clerks, is no longer "the first in the family" to read.
- 51 more lines about olives, vineyards, herds, harvest and the plough no longer come to a life that has moved to a town or a port.
Lot v1.2.1
Changed
- A life behind the monastery gate now reads like one: 113 lines and five forks of the cloister (novices, copying, bells, meditation, plague in the house, a fugitive at the gate, a year of silence), and no more dances, weddings or village fairs. Hard times, the legacy and the last wish speak of the monastery too.
Fixed
- A life that went to the sea (a day trip by train, fishing, a house by the shore) is no longer mourned as one that never saw it.
- A childless death is no longer "with the children near".
Lot v1.2.0
Added
- Settings: the book can be printed instead of handwritten.
- Atlas: tap a dot to see whose birthplace it is: name, years, era and place; tap the note to open the book.
Lot v1.1.3
Fixed
- Whoever enters a monastery is no longer wed afterwards: forks that can bring a wedding or a child, and lines about your own matchmaking, skip those who took vows.
Lot v1.1.2
Fixed
- A widow or widower no longer meets lines about a living spouse; remarrying lifts it.
- Work at a factory, an office or a warehouse makes the life a town life, so fields and rent stop coming.
- After emigrating, a life gets only lines, forks and events true anywhere, not those of the home village.
- Lines about your own children and grandchildren come only to those who have them; three forks ask for what they assumed.
Lot v1.1.1
Fixed
- Entries written on one page now appear one after another, not all at once.
- The screens no longer scroll under the status bar.
- A fork ignores taps for a moment after it appears, so a quick second tap on "Turn the page" can't pick its first door.
- A life that has moved to town no longer gets lines and forks about fields, harvests, cattle or rent: lines about a new flat or a factory hostel mark the life as a town life.
- A father no longer shares his child's name.
- The demo writes its notebook answers in the app's language.
Lot v1.1.0
Added
- Ten times the life: about 2,000 everyday lines instead of 200, tied to region, family, sex, letters, marriage and years, so China reads like China and the kolkhoz never comes before 1930.
- 465 real events instead of 72, among them 49 encounters with people later written about.
- Everyday forks: about 150 dilemmas at 19, 27, 39, 51 and 64, with doors shut for some, weighted outcomes, epitaph lines and questions of their own.
- Longer books: more pages per life, from infancy to a hundred.
- A choice before the draw, all optional: an era, a part of the world, born a boy or a girl. Within it the lot keeps the real weights; combinations that never existed are greyed out.
- The chronicle and the encounters in the atlas: what your lives have met so far, era by era.
- New lives avoid lines, events and forks met in your recent books, and events no life has seen yet come first.
- Thirty regional things for the chest, more names, more stories, epitaphs and questions.
Changed
- "Which one, the lot decides" instead of "the sack decides".
- Finished books are kept as they were written, so later updates of the lines never change them.
Lot v1.0.0
Added
- The sack and the wooden tag: a fair draw from the 117 billion people ever born, weighted by era, region and family, with the odds.
- The parish register: a life read page by page, with about 200 everyday lines across six ages and about 70 real historical events, including rare encounters.
- Forks with every door shown, the shut ones with the reason; witness mode.
- The chest of things; great-grandchildren who inherit the name, the means and the thing.
- A question for you at the end of each life, kept in a notebook; the atlas with a time slider, the census and the encounters.
- An archive of every life, replayed from its seed; EN and RU; demo build.
