mp4trim 3.1.1

@blarer blarer released this 02 Oct 20:45

mp4trim 3.1.1 - keyboard shortcuts while UI is hidden

Fixed

  • Keyboard shortcuts now work while the glass panels are faded out. The menu bar hides with the chrome, and Qt disables shortcuts of actions in hidden menus - so D (Discord export), G (GIF), S (Snapshot), I/O (marks), K, Enter and friends went dead exactly when the UI was hidden. The window now matches pressed keys against menu shortcuts directly as a fallback.

Everything from 3.1.0 (frameless liquid-glass UI, fit-to-video window, responsive panel tiers, ~35% faster NVENC exports, high-DPI click accuracy) is included.

@blarer blarer released this 02 Oct 20:30

mp4trim 3.1.0 - frameless liquid-glass UI, responsive layout, faster exports

Highlights

  • Frameless window: no native title bar; File/Marks/Options/Help menus plus minimize/maximize/close live in the top glass panel. Drag the top bar to move, double-click to maximize, drag edges to resize.
  • Window fits the video: opening a clip resizes the window to the clip's aspect ratio (up to 90% of the screen) so the video fills edge to edge with no black bars.
  • Responsive panels: controls adapt in tiers (full / compact / minimal) down to a 640px window - text shortens, buttons go icon-only, clip names elide. Nothing overlaps or gets cut off.
  • ~35% faster Discord exports: NVENC preset tuned (p5, no multipass) with identical output size and quality safeguards.
  • Click accuracy at high DPI: removed graphics effects that rendered panels offset from their real hit areas at 200% scaling (RDP included); buttons now press exactly where they appear.
  • Video + panels compositing fixed: video renders through the Qt scene graph so glass panels reliably draw above it.
  • Polish: pressed states on all buttons, styled volume slider, tooltips, menus, and progress bar.

mp4trim 3.0.0 — liquid glass

Choose a tag to compare

@blarer blarer released this 02 Oct 14:13

Self-contained Windows 10/11 x64 installer (ffmpeg, Python, Qt and the VC++ runtime are inside; per-user, no admin).

3.0.0: liquid-glass UI

The interface gets out of the way:

  • Edge-to-edge video: the clip fills the whole window.
  • Floating glass controls: the timeline, transport and export buttons float over the video as translucent dark-glass panels. They fade in when you move the mouse and melt away after ~2 seconds idle; the cursor hides during playback like a real player.
  • Volume slider + mute: in the floating transport bar. M mutes, scroll over the slider adjusts, remembered between runs.
  • Fullscreen: F11 toggles, Esc exits. Click the video to play/pause.
  • Panels stay visible while an export runs or when no clip is loaded, so nothing ever disappears when you need it.

All of 2.x underneath: frame-exact scrubbing, fine-scrub speed tiers, Discord-sized exports (20 MB / 50 MB / 1 GB), lossless trim, folder browsing, auto-update with hash verification.

mp4trim 2.4.0

@blarer blarer released this 02 Oct 13:25

Self-contained Windows 10/11 x64 installer (ffmpeg, Python, Qt and the VC++ runtime are inside; per-user, no admin).

New in 2.4.0: reliability and responsiveness

  • No more UI freezes: taking a snapshot (S) and opening/flipping between clips (« ») no longer stall the window; frame grabs and file probing now run in the background.
  • Safer auto-update: downloads are now verified against the SHA256 below before the Update button appears, and the app re-checks for updates every 24 h instead of only at launch.
  • Cleaner shutdown: quitting during an update download no longer risks a crash.
  • Tests no longer touch the network, tier tests follow the app's Discord limits automatically, and tests/run_all.py runs the whole suite in one command.

mp4trim 2.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@blarer blarer released this 01 Oct 16:35

Self-contained Windows 10/11 x64 installer (ffmpeg, Python, Qt and the VC++ runtime are inside; per-user, no admin).

New in 2.3.0:

  • Updated Discord limits (Discord's August 2026 change): Free is now 20 MB (was 10), Nitro Basic 50 MB, Nitro 1 GB (was 500 MB). Saved settings migrate automatically, and exports target the new sizes.
  • Auto-update: the app checks this releases page on launch. When a newer version exists it downloads the installer in the background and shows an "Update to X" button in the status bar; one click installs and restarts. Manual check under Help → Check for updates. Opt out with MP4TRIM_NO_UPDATE=1.

Everything from 2.2: frame-exact lag-free scrubbing, fine-scrub speed tiers, OLED theme, « / » folder browsing, Discord-sized exports, lossless trim, --selftest.

mp4trim 2.2.0

@blarer blarer released this 01 Oct 16:16

Self-contained Windows 10/11 x64 installer (ffmpeg, Python, Qt and the VC++ runtime are inside; per-user, no admin).

New in 2.2.0: frame-exact, lag-free scrubbing

Dragging the timeline used to seek the video player for every mouse move, and on high-bitrate clips (e.g. 1440p60 AV1 from OBS) each seek re-decoded from the previous keyframe, so the picture lagged far behind the bar. Scrubbing now runs on a dedicated engine:

  • the first drag into a keyframe chunk starts one decoder that streams that whole chunk into RAM (first frame ~100 ms)
  • every further position in the chunk is an instant cache hit, so the preview is 1:1 with the playhead, including fine scrubbing frame by frame
  • recently used chunks stay cached (~420 MB cap, LRU evicted); releasing the mouse hands the exact position back to normal playback
  • the player is never seeked during the drag, only once on release

Everything from 2.1: OLED theme, « / » folder browsing, Apple-style fine scrubbing tiers, Discord-sized exports, lossless trim, --selftest.

@blarer blarer released this 29 Sep 21:44

Self-contained Windows 10/11 x64 installer (ffmpeg, Python, Qt and the VC++ runtime are inside; per-user, no admin).

New in 2.1.0:

  • OLED theme: true-black interface instead of gray.
  • Folder browsing: « / » buttons (or PgUp / PgDn) jump to the previous / next video in the clip's folder. The status bar shows "clip N of M".
  • Fine scrubbing, Apple style: while dragging on the timeline, pull the mouse further down to slow the drag through ½ → ¼ → fine (sub-frame at 60 fps). A badge shows the active speed; tier changes never jump the playhead.

Everything from 2.0.x: Discord MP4 export that fits 10 / 50 / 500 MB (NVENC or x264), lossless trim, GIF export, live size estimate, progress + cancel, --selftest.

mp4trim 2.0.2

@blarer blarer released this 29 Sep 21:19

Self-contained Windows 10/11 x64 installer. Nothing else needs to be installed: Python, Qt, the Visual C++ runtime and ffmpeg/ffprobe are inside. Per-user install, no admin needed.

  • Discord MP4: re-encodes the selected range to fit 10 / 50 / 500 MB. Uses NVENC on NVIDIA GPUs and x264 on any other PC.
  • Trim (lossless): stream copy at original quality.
  • Live size estimate, progress bar + cancel, zoomable thumbnail timeline, keyframe warning.
  • Shortcuts: I / O set in/out, K snaps to keyframe, , / . step one frame, D Discord MP4. F1 lists them all.
  • Recent files, and exports never overwrite an existing file.
  • New in 2.0.2: mp4trim.exe --selftest report.json checks that exports work on the current PC.

Tested with its own ffmpeg only (system PATH stripped) on both the NVENC and the x264 (non-NVIDIA) paths.

@blarer blarer released this 08 Jul 05:36

New

  • Discord tier selector: Options → Discord upload limit — Free (10 MB), Nitro Basic (50 MB), or Nitro (500 MB). Remembered between runs.
  • Nitro tiers unlock higher-quality GIF rungs: export starts at 720px / 24fps instead of 480px/20fps, stepping down only if needed.
  • Auto-copy to clipboard: finished GIFs and trimmed MP4s are copied as files the moment encoding finishes — just Ctrl+V into Discord.

Install

Download the MSI below — per-user install, no admin needed, upgrades earlier versions in place.

Windows SmartScreen note: unsigned installer — click More info → Run anyway. Full source in this repo.

Requires ffmpeg on PATH (winget install Gyan.FFmpeg) — not bundled.
