Download steer-1.6.0.apk below and install it on your Android phone. It bundles the watchapp — open it and tap Install watch app (pbw) to push Steer to your Pebble. (You can also grab steer-1.6.0.pbw directly.)

Update both halves. The 1.6.0 watchapp talks to the phone over PebbleKit 2 and needs the 1.6.0 phone app. If the Pebble / Core Devices app says Steer "needs a companion app", update the phone app from this page.

Improvements

• komoot support. Turn-by-turn from komoot (hiking and cycling) now shows on the watch — thanks to @sporkbyspork for the contribution (#19). komoot's notification carries no arrival time, so the ETA stays empty, and its "Turn around" warning isn't shown.
• PebbleKit 2. Steer now talks to the watch over PebbleKit 2, the modern link of the Pebble / Core Devices app, which Pebble apps that block the old PebbleKit (such as Gravel) require (#20). The old link remains as a fallback for the original Pebble app and older watchapp versions. While Steer is open on the watch, the Pebble app also keeps the phone app running, which helps Android leave it alone mid-drive.
• Pebble 2 Duo. The watchapp now includes a native build for the Pebble 2 Duo (flint).

Fixes

• Android 7. Starting a favourite from the watch no longer crashes on Android 7 when the phone has to show the tap-to-launch notification.

Fixes

• Organic Maps (and CoMaps) turns are read correctly. Turns were being guessed from the icon's shape and often shown as "straight ahead" on the watch — Steer now recognises Organic Maps' actual maneuver icons (left, right, slight, sharp, U-turn, ramps, arrive), the same way it does for Google Maps. This also fixes CoMaps, which was being matched against the wrong icon set.
• Roundabouts now show a generic roundabout icon instead of "straight". Showing the actual exit number on the watch is a known limitation still on the list.

Fixes

• CoMaps from Codeberg / Obtainium now works. That build uses the package name app.comaps (no .google/.fdroid suffix), which Steer didn't recognise — so it stayed on "Waiting for signal...". All CoMaps flavours are now supported, along with Organic Maps' app.organicmaps.web package.
• CoMaps (F-Droid) maneuver arrows. No longer always showing a straight-ahead arrow.
• Android Auto. The watch no longer shows phantom navigation when the car is connected but you're not actually navigating.

Fixes

• Navigation works again on Android 16/17. Google Maps' newer navigation notification (Android's "Live Updates", with a trip-progress bar) was being ignored, so the watch froze on "Starting navigation..." or never started. Steer now recognises it. If you were stuck after a recent update, this fixes it.

• Only real navigation reaches the watch now. After auditing every notification each map app posts, the filter now uses the navigation category (plus the download progress bar), so map downloads and trip/track recording notifications from OsmAnd, Organic Maps and CoMaps are all ignored — in every language.

Fixes

• Navigation now works in every language. The map-download filter added in 1.5.7 relied on English/Portuguese words and metric ("m"/"km") text, so real navigation in other languages could be dropped. It now uses a language-independent signal — a notification with a progress bar is treated as a download and ignored — so downloads are still filtered and navigation works everywhere.

• Map downloads no longer show on the watch. Downloading offline maps in OsmAnd (and similar background progress notifications) was being read as a straight-ahead maneuver. Steer now only forwards a notification that actually carries a distance-to-turn and/or a maneuver, so downloads and other non-navigation notifications are ignored.

• All OsmAnd builds supported. On top of OsmAnd and OsmAnd+ (which already covered the F-Droid "OsmAnd~" build), Steer now also reads and launches OsmAnd's nightly and store-specific builds. No change needed for most users — the common OsmAnd apps already worked.
