Dungeon Mechanics
Every block in the Demon Realm is either a trap, a tool, or a trophy. Sometimes all three.
This page collects the non-combat machinery of the Endless Dungeon, covering the blocks you will see, the things they do, and what you can take home with you. For the demons themselves, see Daemonium Bestiary.
Every hostile room in the dungeon is policed by a trial spawner, a sealed pillar of ribbed iron with a glowing eye at its center. The spawners share a uniform rhythm across the realm:
- Demons appear within roughly four blocks of the pillar.
- Six are summoned per activation, no more than two at once.
- A new demon emerges every two seconds while the spawner is engaged.
The total wave scales with the number of players nearby; solo runs see manageable surges, while group runs spike accordingly. Most chambers in the dungeon hold at least one spawner; corridors, entrance halls, and the occasional empty puzzle room are the exceptions.
Clearing every wave a spawner sends makes it eject a reward, drawn from the same loot tables the dungeon chests use. That includes keys: spawners in the standard dungeon can give Standard Dungeon Keys and Mine Entrance Keys, and spawners inside The Mines can give Mine Dungeon Keys. If you are short a key, fight the spawners rather than hunting for another chest.
Spike Traps sit dormant and look innocuous until a redstone signal reaches them, whereupon serrated blades erupt from the housing with lethal intent. Whatever intelligence designed these clearly meant to discourage uninvited guests.
The traps are wired into Dungeon Alternators and various pressure-plate triggers throughout the realm. They can be harvested intact with an iron-or-better pickaxe, and they make excellent defensive additions to a player base: a single redstone pulse arms them, no further mechanism required. Consult JEI for crafting.
When a powered Spike Trap slays a creature, the vitality spilled by its blades does not have to go to waste. If an Ara Vitae stands within 16 blocks of the trap, the kill feeds the altar directly, behaving like a miniature Well of Suffering at roughly one third of the ritual's yield per kill. The trap remembers the nearest altar after its first successful kill and only re-scans when that altar is broken or relocated, so the search cost is negligible.
- Players are excluded from the harvest. Spikes still wound you, but a player death never feeds the altar, and spike kills are never attributed to a player - no experience, no player-conditional drops.
- This gives early-tier vitaemancers a viable EV source long before the Well of Suffering ritual becomes available. Pair a spike trap with a mob spawner, a dispenser pulse circuit, or a redstone-clocked Dungeon Alternator and you have a passive blood farm.

Ethereal Mimics are liminal blocks. Place one and right-click it with any other block to assign it that block's appearance. The Mimic looks identical to the source but is completely intangible; anything walks straight through. The Endless Realm uses them for pitfall traps, hidden passages, and secret rooms; once you have the recipe (JEI), you can do the same in your own base.
The pale-blue stonework that defines the Demon Realm. Demon Stone is forged by infusing ordinary stone with Spiritus at an Ara Vitae.
Demon Stone is aggressively transmutative. Any attempt to combine Demon Stone with ordinary stone simply yields more Demon Stone; the material refuses to revert. Introducing Ruina, Nihilum, Invictus, or Vindicta Spiritus during creation produces colored variants, each carrying a faint resonance of its aspect. All variants can be shaped at a stonecutter into decorative patterns. Consult JEI for the full recipe matrix.
Scattered through the deeper chambers, Prismatic Demonite is a rare block of compressed mineral resonance shot through with rainbow veins. It is the dungeon's wild card.
Mine it with any pickaxe and it drops a single piece of raw ore drawn at random from any material that the Athanor knows how to process: iron, gold, copper, hellforged, or any new material a modpack has registered through the materials config. You do not pick the ore; the block does, and its taste runs wide.
After the drop, the block has an 80% chance to regenerate as Prismatic Demonite and a 20% chance to deplete into raw Dungeon Stone. Keep mining the same block until it gives out, then move on. A handful of these scattered through a dungeon run can rival a full ore deposit if luck rides with you.
Prismatic Demonite does not drop a block form for replication and cannot be silk-touched into your base; the seam is part of the dungeon, not your inventory.
Demonite Ore is found only in The Mines, the deepest tier of the dungeon, reached by unsealing the mine entrance with a Mine Entrance Key; its deeper veins lie behind doors that only Mine Dungeon Keys will open, dropped by The Foreman and by the trial spawners inside the Mines. The ore is the only naturally occurring source of Hellforged metal, the foundation of Tier V Ara Vitae construction and the most demanding flask recipes.
| Tool used | Yield |
|---|---|
| Silk Touch | Demonite Ore block (process later) |
| Any other pickaxe | Clumps of Raw Demonite |
Both the ore block and Raw Demonite can be smelted into Hellforged Ingots. The Athanor can take this further, producing Hellforged Sand from gravel, ore, or raw demonite, and breaking demonite into fragments and gravel for advanced potion-craft.
Hellforged Ingots compress into Raw Hellforged Blocks, which can be stonecut into decorative variants faintly tainted with Ruina, Nihilum, Invictus, or Vindicta Spiritus. Each decorative variant reverses back into 9 Hellforged Ingots at a crafting table.
A common drop from broken dungeon containers and a frequent component in Hellfire Forge recipes. Weak Blood Shards function as the cheap consumable currency of demon-forge work, used wherever a recipe needs a "blood" component but does not warrant the heavier Blood Diamond tier.
Tau Fruit grows wild in the simpler chambers of the Demon Realm and can be cultivated in the overworld, though its lifecycle is more demanding than any mundane crop.
Under normal conditions, the vine ripens into common Tau Fruit, rendered down on the Tabula Vitae into Tau Oil. The oil smells of blood oranges with an otherworldly aftertaste, and serves two purposes:
- Anointment extension: anointments treated with Tau Oil last 4× longer.
- Intermediate Cutting Fluid key ingredient: lasts 8× longer than basic, +25% speed.
If a living creature stands atop the plant as it matures, the vine drinks the creature's vitality to feed its own growth. The result is Saturated Tau, a far more potent variant born from stolen life, a higher-tier potion ingredient catalogd in JEI.
The dungeons offer little in the way of wholesome sustenance, but a resourceful Vitaemancer can make do with what the dead leave behind.
Dropped by most Daemonium. Staves off hunger but carries a risk of brief Wither on consumption. Desperation food at best; useful as a crafting base at worst.
Tainted Flesh refined in the Hellfire Forge with a Weak Blood Shard and a Gore-Clotted Fang (dropped by Daemonium Cruoris). Deeply satisfying, accelerates natural healing for a short window, and can be eaten at any time regardless of hunger bar. A reliable combat ration once you have a Cruoris kill or three under your belt.
A vile draught brewed in the forge from Ectoplasmic Residue (Rancoris), Venomgland Sac (Pestis), and Hollow Gut (Voraxis). Floods the body with unnatural might (Strength) but dulls coordination (Slowness) and leaves the drinker lethargic. A combat stimulant with a bitter cost; useful in tight melee fights where mobility is already lost.
Set into the walls of the Endless Realm and gleaming with a pale, unwavering light, the Dungeon Eye is a self-illuminating block with no fuel cost. Variants exist tinted by Raw, Ruina, Nihilum, Invictus, and Vindicta Spiritus. You can harvest the ones you find or craft new ones; consult JEI. Like a log, an eye turns to match the face you place it against, so it can lie along a horizontal pillar.
The Blood Lantern is a soul lantern reforged within the Ara Vitae, pale fire stained crimson by the Essentia Vitae that courses through it. It hangs, stands, and waterlogs like any other lantern.
Within a 16-block radius, passive and ambient mobs cannot spawn. Cows, sheep, bats, fish, axolotls, and similar creatures find the air unwelcoming and simply refuse to manifest. Hostile monsters are unaffected; the lantern wards against life, not malice.
