Features

  • Added line-level staging in the diff view: a changed line can be staged, unstaged or discarded from a gutter button on hover or from its context menu, which also offers Copy.
  • Added interface zoom from 80% to 300%, set from the status bar, the new Appearance section in preferences, or Ctrl+= / Ctrl+- / Ctrl+0. The choice is saved with the settings and the default is now 110%.
  • Added a branch switcher to the toolbar breadcrumb: the branch name opens a searchable list of local branches, and picking one checks it out.
  • Added a direct GitHub sign-in action after access failures, opening the authorization page and showing the device code without a trip through settings. Existing credentials remain available until the new sign-in completes.

Improvements

  • Text throughout the interface is larger, closer to GitKraken's proportions; branch counters, ahead/behind counts and pull-request badges in the reference sidebar are easier to read.
  • The diff header shows the change icon before the file name, and the line-number column header is gone.
  • Folder rows in the file tree highlight on hover, drop the folder icon, and keep their change counts right after the folder name.
  • Edit actions and modified-file markers use a solid pencil icon.
  • The GitHub access dialog now closes automatically after a successful sign-in with the required permissions.

Fixes

  • Fixed broken refs in foreign namespaces (outside branches, remotes, tags and stashes) failing the commit graph: history now walks only the ref namespaces it displays.
  • Fixed the same broken refs failing fetch and pull by hiding them from Git's connectivity check.
  • Fixed HTTP 403 and repository permission denials being reported as an unreachable remote. These errors now explain the access denial and offer to sign in to GitHub again when the failed command targeted GitHub.com; HTTP 401 failures use the existing authentication recovery path.
  • Fixed push authentication and recovery using the fetch host when a remote has a different push URL.
  • Fixed reauthorization hiding the device code behind the existing account card, and prevented duplicate sign-in requests while a code is being requested.

GitCat v1.8.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Sep 15:22

GitCat 1.8.0

Features

  • Adopted the shared catninth-updater Rust library for stable release checks, GitHub release notes, signed downloads, and installation.
  • Added recurring update checks every six hours after the initial startup check.
  • Moved update state and installation control into the native backend. The interface now follows native progress and installation events.

Fixes

  • Prevented overlapping update actions and stale asynchronous responses from overwriting newer update state.
  • Preserved single-instance lock cleanup before restarting or handing off to the Windows installer.
  • Added signed DEB and RPM update entries alongside AppImage, selecting the package type already installed on Linux.
  • Updated the release source to the canonical catninth/gitcat repository.

Reliability

  • Added native updater and frontend lifecycle regression tests, including event ordering, concurrent actions, and listener cleanup.
  • Added frontend tests and production builds to continuous integration.

GitCat v1.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 21 Sep 19:17

Features

  • Added actionable recovery steps to Git errors: failed operations can now offer to pull, set an upstream branch, check the hosting-service connection, or confirm a guarded force push directly from the error toast.
  • Added a repository mutation queue, so commands requested while another mutation or reload is running wait their turn instead of being dropped; duplicate repository-wide commands are coalesced.
  • Added force push with --force-with-lease --force-if-includes, including a confirmation before overwriting the remote and both safe pull and force-push choices when a lease is refused.
  • Added an add-remote flow when pushing a repository without remotes: point it at an existing URL or create an empty repository on a connected service, then push the current branch.

Improvements

  • A push whose destination already contains the current branch now reports Everything up-to-date without contacting the remote.
  • Removed check-state badges from branch rows to keep the reference sidebar focused on branch and pull-request state.

Fixes

  • Fixed fetching repositories whose remotes use different hosts: each remote is now fetched separately so it receives the credential for its own host.
  • Fixed a revoked or superseded sign-in failing a network mutation immediately: GitCat renews the rejected credential once and retries when renewal returns a different token.

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Aug 13:41

Features

  • Added hosting service integration: the service is detected from the remote URL, offline and host-driven, and a self-hosted install is named by the user on the integrations page.
  • Added GitHub sign-in through the OAuth device flow, with the credential kept in the operating system credential store and never in the exported settings file; GitHub Enterprise Server accepts a typed token.
  • Added pull request and check state decorations on branch rows, including per-commit checks and fork-aware matching on branch name plus head owner.
  • Added author avatars resolved through the service, delivered as data: URIs, with an opt-in Gravatar fallback that is off by default.
  • Added authenticated Git network commands, using a credential helper installed for a single command and answering only for the host the token was issued for.
  • Added cloning from the connected account: pick a source service, browse the repositories grouped by owner, and choose a shallow or sparse clone.
  • Added repository creation on a connected service, created empty with origin pointed at it afterwards, and add remote for an already open repository.
  • Added an integrations preferences page that gathers the hosting services, their connection state and the self-hosted host names in one place.
  • Added external links to the hosting service, opened over https: only and falling back to the clipboard where no browser answers.
  • Added resizable commit list columns and ref-aware context menus on commit rows.
  • Added inline editing of the commit summary on the WIP row.

Improvements

  • The branches panel collapses into an icon rail, keeping the graph wide on narrow windows.
  • Connecting a service is one panel, rendered the same in preferences, clone and initialize; a device-flow sign-in now lives outside the React tree and survives closing the dialog.
  • A service GitCat has no registered application for says so in the start dialogs instead of offering a form that belongs on the preferences page, and an unsupported service reads Coming soon rather than Links only.
  • The clone dialog hides the destination fields until the chosen source can offer a repository, and no longer asks for a folder name or a branch.
  • Ref labels lost their outline border, remote icons their outline ring, and file rows their redundant change count; graph rows are tighter, the WIP connector starts at the node edge, and commit subjects are softer in weight and color.
  • The stage button overlays a file row on hover instead of reserving padding on every row.
  • Text selection is off in graph rows, worktree status lists and the toolbar, so a drag scrolls instead of highlighting.
  • Pull request and check answers are cached in memory only and refreshed when the remote tips move, never on a plain redraw; avatar lookups cache misses as well as hits so a repeat lookup does not spend the rate limit again.

Fixes

  • Fixed a service's cached answers outliving the credential that read them: signing out, or storing or clearing a token, now forgets everything cached for that host.
  • Fixed the message column collapsing in the compact commit-list layout.
  • Fixed the token state in the clone and initialize dialogs, which reported a host as unconnected while a token was stored for it.

GitCat v1.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Aug 07:46

This release focuses on matching GitKraken's commit graph exactly: lane placement,
branch colors, edge paint order, and page-independent layout. It also fixes several
stash operations that were resolved by an unstable index.

Added

  • Show the popped stash's message as the WIP row title until the next mutation.
  • Automated GitKraken graph conformance suite, with recorded oracles for the
merge ladder, stash-on-ladder, overflow palette blocks, SVG crossing paint order,
    and multi-lane convergence pagination.

Fixed

  • Lane placement: a tip now reuses the lowest interior lane emptied by a
convergence instead of always opening to the right of the rightmost active lane.
  • Merge lanes: a new merge-parent line opens beside its own merge rather than
past unrelated routes that happen to be open further right.
  • Merge ladders: repeated merges of the same trunk into one branch now fan into
    their own lanes and draw a ladder instead of collapsing into a straight column;
a ladder rung keeps reserving the lane it steps out of.
  • Pagination: merge-line lane reservations now survive a history page boundary,
so paging through history in any number of batches produces the same lanes and
    edges as a single-batch layout.
  • Colors: branch colors follow the physical lane (color = lane % 10), matching
GitKraken; built-in theme graph palettes now define all 10 canonical lane slots.
  • Paint order: at every SVG crossing the physically backmost route is painted
    on top.
  • Stash: apply, pop, and drop now resolve by stable outer oid instead of index,
and the delete confirmation names the stash by its message.

GitCat v1.2.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Aug 19:21

Features

  • Added an operation-aware merge conflict editor with Base, Ours, Theirs and editable result views, guarded side selection, delete and stage actions, and conservative Git rerere reuse.
  • Added bulk conflict resolution for all conflicts or a selected folder, including mark-resolved and take-one-side actions.
  • Added an operation banner with continue, skip and abort actions, stopped-commit details, and rebase progress.
  • Added customizable themes with import and export support.
  • Added editors for all ten graph lane colors, with independent reset controls and the GitLens palette as the default.
  • Added a graph column menu for hiding and restoring individual commit-list columns.
  • Added a repository tab overview and refreshed the repository tab presentation.
  • Added a stash context menu and a default stash message.
  • Added per-status file counts and parent commit links to commit details.
  • Added GitKraken-style graph lane priority, branch-span colors, merge routing, stash lanes and deterministic edge layering.

Improvements

  • The checked-out branch and WIP now own the primary graph lane, while main or master stays secondary when another branch is active.
  • Stashes now use dashed, short-lived side lanes and keep their own colors without displacing HEAD or the default branch.
  • Branch labels, row highlights, remote labels and graph connectors now consistently use their branch color and connection state.
  • Merge commits are rendered as compact junction dots, with square edge bends and continuous foreground routes at crossings.
  • The diff now opens directly in place of the graph; the redundant graph/diff tab bar was removed.
  • Commit details now have a clearer header, SHA and co-author presentation.
  • Graph headers remain outside the scrollbar, and keyboard navigation from WIP scrolls the selected commit into view correctly.
  • The settings UI was reorganized around reusable theme presets and persisted importable settings.
  • The desktop application and Git CLI backend were split into focused modules to make future changes easier to isolate.
  • Arbitrary Tailwind values were replaced with shared theme tokens for more consistent styling.

Fixes

  • Fixed graph lane and color ordering across checkout changes, merges, WIP rows, stashes, disconnected histories and histories wider than the ten-color palette.
  • Fixed graph paths changing color where several branches overlap or converge; the physically backmost route now remains on top.
  • Fixed merge parents moving out of their assigned lanes and graph edges losing their straight visible runs around bends.
  • Fixed branch-label connectors appearing detached, painting over graph edges, or dimming differently from their labels.
  • Fixed stash rows appearing out of reflog order and completed stash lanes not being reused.
  • Fixed stash history being based on the wrong commit, duplicate stash messages, and stash colors overriding the HEAD color.
  • Fixed stashing untracked files by staging them explicitly before creating the stash.
  • Fixed graph color pickers updating the wrong lane colors.
  • Fixed graph column headers entering the horizontal scrollbar.
  • Fixed down-arrow navigation from the WIP row failing to reveal the next selected commit.
