Eggcentric 2.3.0 — Private online multiplayer POC

  • PLAY and MULTIPLAYER: two matching, prominent buttons on the main menu. Multiplayer is included in the normal Eggcentric download and update on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
  • Invite a friend: create a two-player lobby, copy its six-character code, or enter a friend's code to join. Choose your own egg and starting weapon; both players ready up before the host starts.
  • Host controls: choose an unlocked arena and Danger level, with an optional Melee Weapons Only rule.
  • Shared gold, separate builds: collected battlefield gold is pooled and split before upgrades and shopping. Each player makes their own choices; the next wave waits for both players.
  • Survive together: twenty-wave runs, no friendly fire, teammate indicators, spectating after death, return next wave if your teammate survives, and Play Again after the result.
  • Pause and reconnect: either player can pause. A dropped connection pauses the run for a 60-second reconnect window before the survivor can continue alone.
  • Friends server: hosted on Railway in Virginia. No account signup, port forwarding, or server setup needed to play.

This is the first playable multiplayer POC. Its independent simulation does not yet reproduce every solo weapon hook, enemy behavior, event, Pantry bonus, or achievement. Seeing your friend's shop choices and rescue revives are later improvements. Active runs are held in memory and end when the server restarts or is deployed.

Single-player combat and progression remain separate. Multiplayer runs in its own process and save directory; closing it returns to Eggcentric's title screen. Existing single-player progress and settings are retained. The multiplayer mode can copy your existing solo unlocks without modifying your solo save.

Eggcentric 2.2.4 — Zone rewards, controller fixes, and explosion smoke

  • Hold the Zone makeover: a metal bounty beacon with an egg-and-coin stamp, chunky anchors, and eight progress lights replaces the plain circle. The floor stays clear enough to see enemies and incoming attacks.
  • More gold for holding: earn 80 + 12 × wave gold after an eight-second hold—116 on wave 3, 176 on wave 8, and 320 on wave 20. The exact reward goes straight into your wallet. A small “ZONE HELD / +GOLD” receipt appears below the wallet for two seconds.
  • Pick your egg with A: focus a character and press A / Cross to select it immediately. Hover or move focus to preview; B / Circle backs out. Right-stick detail scrolling stays available, and returning from the detail panel keeps the egg you were inspecting.
  • Smoother controller menus: LB / RB switches Codex and Settings tabs from inside their contents without losing focus. Start cancels an in-progress control rebind and returns focus to that binding.
  • Better explosion smoke: brief, irregular gray wisps replace the brown bubble clouds. The existing impact flash, shockwave, and debris remain. Smoke clears with the blast in 0.62 seconds and respects reduced effects.

Includes all improvements from 2.2.3. Existing progress and settings are retained.

85c38aa

Eggcentric 2.2.3 — Freeze Ray balance and ice visuals

  • Slower Freeze Ray: base cooldown increases from 0.25 to 0.9 seconds, roughly 72% fewer shots. Upgrades keep the slower cadence. The beam still chills on each hit and freezes ordinary enemies after three hits.
  • Visible ice: Freeze Ray hits now use the same blue recolor as Slushie, including on orange and red enemies. Fully frozen enemies turn a stronger icy blue and stop wobbling. The color clears when they thaw or the ice shatters.
  • Consistent chill feedback: the shared ice visuals also cover other chill and direct-freeze effects. Boss resistance and charge-warning colors remain intact.

Includes all improvements from 2.2.2. Existing progress and settings are retained.

Eggcentric v2.2.2

@cnichols1734 cnichols1734 released this 08 Sep 02:07

Eggcentric 2.2.2 — Better arenas and easier weapon fusions

  • Rooftop fans rebuilt: detailed metal housings, curved spinning blades behind protective grilles, motor vents, mounting bolts, and soft wind streaks replace the flat circles and wedges.
  • Space Station conveyors rebuilt: moving tread panels run under bolted rails and end rollers, with small direction markings and recessed lights. Push strength and hazard placement are unchanged.
  • Weapon fusions are easier to reach: both recipe weapons now need Tier 2 instead of Tier 3. From shop 3 onward, owning a Tier 2 ingredient brings a normally priced Tier 2 recipe partner into an available shop slot. Locked offers are preserved.
  • Know exactly what to fuse: the shop has a Fusion Recipes button showing every pair, what you own, and what needs upgrading. Matching shop offers are labeled, ready weapons glow gold, and a Fusion Ready popover appears when you complete a pair. Choose FUSE to turn both ingredients into one Legendary weapon for free. The popover supports controller navigation and right-stick scrolling.
  • Slushie works on your attacks: every weapon hit slows enemies by 40% for two seconds and turns them icy blue. Bosses receive a 20% slow for one second. Repeated hits refresh the effect.
  • Tougher big enemies: Giant elites and all bosses have 35% more health. Their spawn rates are unchanged.
  • Controller egg details: use the right stick to scroll the egg description while keeping your egg selected.
  • Clearer spawn warning: “Small enemies are spawning much faster for 10 seconds!”

Includes all fixes and improvements from 2.2.1. Existing progress and settings are retained.

Eggcentric v2.2.1

@cnichols1734 cnichols1734 released this 08 Sep 01:01
85c38aa

Eggcentric 2.2.1 — Fire trails and combat feedback

  • Better burning enemies: flowing, translucent flames wrap the visible enemy artwork, with rising embers and readable faces. Blue ground fire gives enemies matching blue flames. Reduced-effects settings remain supported.
  • Continuous fire trails: Molten Mocha paints an unbroken flame trail as you move, including at dash speed. Each section burns out after 0.85 seconds; standing still does not create more fire.
  • Blue-fire dashes: dashing with a fire-trail powerup creates blue flames at double ordinary trail damage for 0.45 seconds. Rocket Fuel also uses the continuous blue trail.
  • Ignitable slime: your trail and weapon fire patches ignite slime into smaller orange or blue flame pools. They last at most 0.9 seconds, are capped at four active pools, and cannot trigger a chain reaction. Overlapping trail and ignited-pool damage uses the strongest source instead of stacking.
  • Ricochet Pistol balance: keeps its two bounces and firing cadence, but tier-1 damage now falls from 8 to 5 to 3 across three enemies. Flat damage bonuses scale at 60%, and each bounce retains 65% damage.
  • Slime Gun balance: base cooldown increased from 0.45 to 1.25 seconds, with the slower cadence preserved through weapon upgrades.
  • New combat sounds: a frying-pan clang on enemy contact, a new Taser Baton zap, and a new level-up chime at its original pitch.

Existing progress and settings are retained. Includes the combat, progression, Danger, and engineering changes from 2.2.0.

@cnichols1734 cnichols1734 released this 08 Sep 00:11
85c38aa

Eggcentric 2.2.0 — Make your build matter

  • A tougher, fairer opening: ordinary guns have shorter starting range and more deliberate fire rates. Six Gun bonuses now grant up to 20% extra range instead of 50%.
  • Better enemy roles: tougher tanks resist repeated knockback, priority enemies show compact health bars, and reliably appearing escorts make target choice and movement matter. Enemy-count limits stay the same.
  • Six distinct Danger steps: higher Danger adds durability, quicker attack recovery, earlier advanced enemies and stronger escorts. Attack warnings keep their full duration. Bosses anticipate movement, then commit to a marked charge lane or landing spot that you can dodge.
  • Build choices count: rapid weapons and pellets use appropriate flat-damage scaling, shown in weapon details. Ordinary guns cost more; defensive items and melee retain their prices. Higher Danger's gold bonus is smaller.
  • Overcharge stays spectacular: five lightning hops with sharper damage falloff, shorter hop distance and a short shared recharge. Its timing now follows gameplay time consistently.
  • Engineering fixes: wrench turrets use Engineering and turret damage rather than melee stats. Controllers deploy their attackers without firing unintended extra bullets themselves.
  • Preserves current characters, weapon artwork, cartoon explosions, spiral defeat effects and controller support.

Existing progress and settings are retained. This is a substantial balance change; your old favorite build may benefit from a defensive purchase or a different weapon mix.

Eggcentric v2.1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@cnichols1734 cnichols1734 released this 07 Sep 18:56

Eggcentric 2.1.3 — Heavy hits and a shield you can see

  • Rocket Launcher: clearly visible, slower rockets with a burning exhaust and large cartoon explosions. Fires every 2 seconds at base speed, dealing 42 damage with a 130-pixel blast radius.
  • Grenade Launcher: larger, tumbling grenades with a visible arc and ground shadow. Fires every 1.25 seconds, dealing 25 damage with a 105-pixel blast radius.
  • Harpoon Gun: a larger barbed projectile and tether trail you can follow. Its damage, firing cadence and pull strength stay the same.
  • Rockets, grenades and harpoons no longer inherit the ordinary bullet-speed boost. Range bonuses extend their flight time. Explosive shells detonate once and disappear on impact, including upgraded piercing variants.
  • Shield Emitter: starts charged and blocks one complete hit per charge. Recharges one charge every 10 seconds at tier 1; Attack Speed applies. Higher tiers store more charges. A visible barrier, charge pips, block fragments and recharge indicator show its state. Existing shield-HP items retain their damage-absorption behavior.
  • Choose Your Egg: the panel and SELECT button stay in place while browsing characters. Long descriptions scroll with mouse or controller, including locked-character details.
  • Includes the title screen Arena/Danger controller-focus fix and corrected frying-pan impact sound.

Existing progress and settings are retained.

Eggcentric v2.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@cnichols1734 cnichols1734 released this 07 Sep 18:35

Eggcentric 2.1.1 — A world with more character

Turrets

  • Larger cartoon turret artwork follows the existing weapons: reinforced barrel, cooling vents, ammo feed and sturdy feet.
  • The chassis stays planted while the gun tracks enemies on its own bearing. Firing adds barrel recoil, a muzzle burst and falling brass.
  • Turrets avoid hay cover when choosing their separated deployment positions.

Arenas

  • Each arena now has its own floor and scenery: quarry tracks and limestone, farm pasture and wagon ruts, diner tiles, rooftop tar and service paths, and space-station cargo panels.
  • Farm cover uses three different hay sprites, varied sizes and loose stacks with open escape routes.
  • Diner spills have varied silhouettes and sizes, moving reflections and gentle bubbles. Their slowing zones follow the visible oil.
  • Small drifting straw, paper, steam and station lights give each place its own atmosphere.

Fire, slime and sound

  • Flamethrowers throw connected flickering flames with bright cores and flying embers.
  • Acid sprays and slime shots use solid liquid droplets and splashes. Ground effects have bubbling pools or scorched patches with flames, and burning enemies carry distinct flame shapes.
  • Added 60 licensed library clips for dash, firearms, melee, tools and elemental weapons. Weapon families rotate between distinct takes; heavy builds limit overlapping copies to keep the sound clear.

The egg roster, spinning death animation and 2.1.0 progression remain intact. Existing saves and settings carry forward.

Eggcentric v2.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@cnichols1734 cnichols1734 released this 07 Sep 17:20

Eggcentric 2.1.0 — More bite, more character

Art and combat

  • New cartoon artwork for 37 previously missing item icons, two placeholder item icons, 13 enemy designs, chests, the vending machine, and meteors.
  • Meteor Shower now has tumbling lava rocks, accelerating fire trails, clear landing marks, debris and rolling smoke.
  • Bomber explosions have comic bursts, smoke and a readable countdown warning.
  • Bullets, bolts, rockets, slime and energy shots have distinct silhouettes and short trails that follow ricochets and returning shots.
  • Replaced 24 newer gun and deployable sprites with chunky, simpler cartoon designs. Original pistol, SMG, shotgun and knife art stays.
  • Held weapons are larger and consistently scaled. The spinning enemy death animation remains.
  • Fixed lingering mini-boss health bars and death sprites.

Builds and balance

  • Turret Kit is now a stackable passive item. Each copy deploys one turret in a fresh, separated arena location each wave, freeing weapon slots. Wrench and Sentry turrets use the same placement spacing.
  • Energy Drink keeps its speed bonuses and now also gives −15% Damage.
  • Sustained powerful builds gently increase future enemies' HP from wave 8. Scaling is capped and eases when you take damage or struggle; boss waves are exempt.
  • Early shop prices stay the same. Later prices rise gradually, up to a 30% markup. Harvesting accumulates fractional growth instead of rounding up every wave.
  • Negative Attack Speed and Armor now apply their intended tradeoffs.

Menus and Steam Deck

  • Warmer, cleaner menus, clearer item cards, improved inventory layout and readable stat tradeoffs.
  • Controller focus now scrolls long menus into view, including Settings, Codex, Pantry, Records, run stats and shop inventory. Unaffordable Pantry upgrades remain inspectable.
  • The current egg roster and character artwork are preserved.
