Images

Applies to SKD Menu 1.0.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1, and to 1.2.5 for 26.2.

Every image the mod draws can come from three places, and you do not have to say which — it works out the format itself. See Configuration for the full rules; this page is about what you can put on screen.

Background

The default is a fixed image with a slow breathing zoom.

"background": {
  "type": "image",
  "image": {
    "path": "skd_menu:textures/gui/bg_main_default.png",
    "fit": "cover",
    "effect": { "type": "zoom", "durationMs": 20000, "minScale": 1.0, "maxScale": 1.15 }
  }
}

Use fit: "cover". It fills the window, preserves the aspect ratio and crops the overflow, so the background never looks distorted on a small window. "stretch" fills exactly and can deform — useful only when the image was made at your exact aspect ratio.

The zoom effect is subtle by default: 1.0 to 1.15 over 20 seconds. Large ranges or fast cycles read as distracting rather than atmospheric.

Other background types

type Behaviour
image Fixed image plus the effect above.
color Flat colour.
animated The legacy rotating-frame background.
panorama A vanilla panorama.
custom_panorama A custom panorama.

Logos

Two fixed corner logos, each independent:

"logos": {
  "topLeft":  { "x": 0, "y": 0,    "width": 150, "image": { "path": "..." } },
  "topRight": { "x": -1, "y": 0,   "width": 150, "image": { "path": "..." } }
}

x and y are percentages; width is pixels. -1 means automatic, which for topRight resolves to the top-right corner and for topLeft to the top-left — so you only need to set the coordinates you actually want to override.

Title image

Replaces the wordmark:

"title": { "x": 50, "y": 12, "scale": 1.0, "image": { "path": "..." } }

Overlays

Free-floating images at any position:

"images": [
  { "path": "skd_menu:textures/gui/overlay.png", "enabled": true, "x": 75, "y": 40, "width": 120, "height": 120, "scale": 1.0 }
]
Field Meaning
path Any of the three formats.
enabled false keeps the entry without drawing it.
x, y Percentage 0–100. -1 places it top-right by default.
width, height Pixels.
scale Multiplier on the drawn size.

Overlays are the right tool for decoration that is not anchored to a corner — artwork behind the button column, a frame, a version stamp.

Loading screen — 26.2 only

On 26.2 the mod also themes the resource-reload screen and the NeoForge early window, configured separately:

config/skd_menu/loading.json

It covers four things: the background, a logo, a banner, and the progress bar. The progress bar is two bundled textures, an underlay and a foreground.

The NeoForge early window — the window shown while mods load — gets a themed progress bar too. One caveat inherited from how that works: the early display is installed after the early window has already chosen its theme for the current boot, so changes take effect from the next launch.

This does not exist on 1.21.1. It was removed there in beta.4 because it did not render reliably during server resource-pack reloads on large modpacks.

Performance

Images bundled in the mod's JAR or in a resource pack are the cheapest option — a texture upload, no disk or network access per frame.

URL images are cached in memory for the session after one background download, so the per-frame cost is the same once loaded. The cost is at startup, and the failure mode is black: an unreachable or still-downloading URL shows the black fallback rather than an error.

Very large images are worth downscaling to your window size. The mod draws them at the size you set, but the source texture is still loaded at full resolution into GPU memory.
