Getting Started
Applies to SKD Menu 1.0.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1, and to 1.2.5 for 26.2.
| Minecraft | 1.21.1 or 26.2 |
| Loader | NeoForge |
| Java | 21+ |
| Required mods | none |
Client-side only. Put the JAR in your mods/ folder on the client and nowhere else.
Installing it on a server does nothing. There is no server-side behaviour to enable, so a dedicated server does not need it and a client connecting to one does not need the server to have it. If you are putting it in a modpack, mark it client-only in the pack manifest or every player will download a JAR that does nothing for them.
- Launch the game once. The mod writes
config/skd_menu/menu.jsonwith defaults. - Open that file.
- Change the background image. This is the fastest thing to see working:
- Restart the game. By default the file is read once at launch.
That last step is the one people miss. See Configuration for how to iterate without restarting every time.
| File | What it holds |
|---|---|
config/skd_menu/menu.json |
Everything about the main menu. Generated on first launch. |
config/skd_menu/menu-common.toml |
Two switches. |
The two options in the .toml:
| Option | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
enableMod |
true |
false and the mod leaves the title screen entirely vanilla. |
reloadJsonOnTitle |
false |
true and the menu JSON is re-read every time the title screen initialises. |
enableMod = false is a clean off switch that keeps your config intact — useful for recovering if
you have misconfigured something badly.
Set reloadJsonOnTitle = true and the JSON is re-read whenever the title screen initialises, which
happens when you:
- resize the game window, or
- return to the title screen from somewhere else — quitting a world or a server.
It does not reload live while the title screen is sitting open. With the option on, the fastest way to see a change is to nudge the window size.
That is a deliberate trade: re-reading on every frame would mean parsing JSON per frame.
Remove the JAR. The config files stay in config/skd_menu/; delete them too if you want a clean
slate. Nothing is stored in saves, so worlds are untouched.
- Configuration — coordinates, image paths, and when changes take effect.
- Buttons — moving, hiding, restyling and adding buttons.
SKD Menu is by Stalking Dragons, released under All Rights Reserved. Client-side only, with no dependency on any other mod.
