Remove veracitools dependency

veracitools is a very small package that just provides a single function.

I think this is the only placed it's used.

In the spirit of simplification I would like to deprecate it, and remove the dependency from pypiper.

So, we should either eliminate the need for it here, or just embed that single function here.

Sounds like a good plan, especially since it looks like it's only used in one test module.
