MagicWall 0.5.1
Full Changelog: v0.5.0...v0.5.1
MagicWall 0.5.0
MagicWall can now animate the lock screen, on macOS 26 or later.
- Lock screen wallpaper — a new wallpaper extension plugs MagicWall into macOS's own wallpaper pipeline: pick MagicWall under "Screen Saver…" in System Settings → Wallpaper and your videos play on the lock screen, with the native unlock transition and no grey flash.
- Settings → General gained a "Lock screen" card: it reports whether MagicWall is your screen saver, names the video in use and opens the right pane. The app cannot set it for you — the system's wallpaper store reverts outside writes within a second, so the picker stays in System Settings.
- The library is mirrored for the extension with hard links: no extra disk space, and it follows imports, renames and deletions.
- Inert on macOS 15–25: the extension is simply never loaded there and the desktop engine is unchanged.
Requires macOS 15 or later (lock screen needs macOS 26 or later).

MagicWall 0.4.1
MagicWall 0.4.0
MagicWall 0.4.0 keeps your wallpaper moving on battery, tells you why it stops, and ships the starter wallpapers in real quality.
What's new
- Plays on battery — the wallpaper no longer pauses when the Mac is unplugged. The battery rule is opt-in, and every automatic pause rule (battery, Low Power Mode, thermal pressure, screen lock, hidden desktop) is now remembered across launches instead of resetting to defaults.
- You always know why it stopped — the menu bar glyph switches to a pause symbol, the menu spells the reason out, and the first automatic stop shows an in-app notice with a one-click "Keep playing on battery".
- Starter wallpapers in real quality — the ready-made 4K clips now come in two tiers: High quality (~143 MB, x265 encodes from the 4K masters, SSIM ≥ 0.99) and Compact (~57 MB) for slow connections. Pick the tier in the first-launch sheet or in Settings → General; switching replaces the files in place, so favorites, categories and screen assignments stay.
- New starter clip — Colorful Underwater Scene (24 s loop), joining Dreamscape, Clover Rainbow, Aurora Forest and Cherry Blossom Spring.
- Smaller fixes: the engine now starts even when the library window never opens (launch at login), and a failed starter-wallpaper upgrade leaves the installed copy untouched.

MagicWall 0.3.0
MagicWall 0.3.0 adds per-display favorites rotation and four ready-made starter wallpapers.
What's new
- Favorites rotation, per display — choose whether every screen shows the same favorite or its own. In "different on each display" mode each screen keeps its own cycle and avoids repeating a clip that is already on another screen (as long as there are enough favorites). Configurable from the Favorites bar and the menu bar.
- Starter wallpapers — on first launch, when the library is empty, MagicWall offers four ready-made 4K clips: Dreamscape, Clover Rainbow, Aurora Forest and Cherry Blossom Spring (~38 MB in total). They download only if you accept, can be skipped, and can be installed or removed at any time from Settings → General. They arrive in the library as favorites, filed under "Nature".
- Verified downloads — the catalog ships with the app and every file is checked against its SHA-256 and size before it enters the library; posters are generated locally like any import.

MagicWall 0.2.0
MagicWall 0.1.0
MagicWall 0.1.0 — first public release
A native SwiftUI app that turns your local videos into animated macOS
wallpapers. Everything stays on your Mac: no accounts, no telemetry, no network
traffic.
Highlights
- Local library — drag & drop import of files and folders, automatically
generated posters, categories, favorites, search and rename. - Fullscreen preview with quick actions, apply to every screen or to a
single display (multi-monitor). - Desktop-level engine — one window behind the Finder icons per screen,
gapless looping (AVPlayerLooper), assignments restored on every launch. - Power policy — automatic pausing on battery, Low Power Mode, thermal
pressure, screen lock or occluded desktop, with recovery after sleep/wake. - Menu bar — pause, shuffle, favorites and stop without opening the window.
- Themes — editable design tokens (colors, corner radii, gradients) plus
light/dark appearance. - English and Italian — the UI follows the system language.
- Window lifecycle — closing the window does not stop the wallpaper: reopen
it from the Dock icon or the menu bar.
