Once you have a clean copy of the image, you can create a snapshot in
Horizon or via the CLI (see here for information on that
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_OpenStack_Platform/2/html/Getting_Started_Guide/ch17s02.html)
and you can then launch that snapshot with your customizations without
having to recreate it each time.
IU and TACC are completely separate clouds -- but we can (and do) sync
images. If your image is not getting auto-synced with the script that's
run, just open a ticket with the glance image UID and I'll make sure the
tech folks sync it. I believe it runs nightly, but I've asked for
clarification. You could then launch on either cloud as needed. Having
that capability if one cloud is down for maintenance or if one is full
(hey, it's not happened yet - but it eventually will) is probably a very
good thing.
