Diskoryx v1.0.4 — Duplicate Finder & file action fixes

Choose a tag to compare

@ekadic7 ekadic7 released this 26 Oct 02:05

Highlights

  • Redesigned Duplicate Finder with a reclaimable-space summary, file-type chart, category filters, and an expandable list of copies.
  • Review copies manually or use Auto-select for clear recommendations, then move selected duplicates to the Recycle Bin while keeping one verified copy.
  • File types now includes a category chart; click a category to filter the extension table.

Fixes and improvements

  • Fixed file and folder deletion through the Copy/Paste/Delete workflow.
  • Strengthened duplicate-cleanup protection for project, dependency, application, and system locations. Eligibility and the kept copy are checked again before each move.
  • Improved duplicate-analysis throughput with scan-inventory reuse, sampled comparisons, and full SHA-256 verification using background workers.
  • Faster batch cleanup through reusable native helpers.
  • Duplicate results now update in place after recycling, without another analysis.
  • Each duplicate-cleanup run appears as one expandable History entry, with individual and restore-all actions.
  • Improved handling of partially moved hard-link aliases.

Downloads

  • Diskoryx-Setup-1.0.4.exe — Windows x64 installer.
  • Diskoryx-Portable-1.0.4.exe — Windows x64 launcher requiring no installation.
  • SHA256SUMS-1.0.4.txt — SHA-256 checksums for both downloads.

Important notes

  • This is an unsigned, early testing release. Windows SmartScreen may display a warning. Keep backups and try file actions on disposable files first.
  • Launch normally, not as administrator. The separate NTFS scan worker requests elevation when needed.
  • Diskoryx bundles its interface, fonts, icons, and scanners locally. No account or upload is required for disk analysis.
  • Duplicate sizes are logical bytes, not a guarantee of physical disk space recovered. Review selections before moving files.
  • Installed and portable editions share settings and History. Older versions cannot read the newer grouped/compressed History format; retain your History records when upgrading.
  • Known issue: some headers and controls have low contrast in light appearance. Use dark appearance where needed; a correction is planned for v1.0.5.

Verification

All 460 automated tests passed. Electron smoke checks covered startup, Duplicate Finder, Copy/Paste, saved-scan reopening, and Recycle Bin/restore operations on disposable test files. Packaged-app startup and bundled icon fonts were also checked. This does not constitute exhaustive Windows or clean-account install/uninstall certification.

Diskoryx v1.0.3

@ekadic7 ekadic7 released this 23 Oct 16:57

Diskoryx v1.0.3

A faster scan pipeline, new ways to explore your storage, and more control over saved results — with disk analysis kept offline.

New features

  • Duplicate Finder: analyze a selected drive, explore the largest duplicate groups in an interactive chart, and search, sort or expand matching paths. Defaults to user files, with an explicit entire-drive option. Duplicate matches require full-file SHA-256 verification; nothing is automatically deleted.
  • Saved scans: save scan metadata to a local .diskoryxscan file and reopen it read-only without scanning the source drive.
  • Compare: compare a saved scan with a fresh scan of its original location to see added, removed and metadata-changed files.
  • Advanced search: filename wildcards, size and modification-date conditions, and AND / OR / NOT expressions.
  • Portable edition: launch without installation. Settings and history still use %APPDATA%\Diskoryx V1.
  • Source CLI: read-only folder scanning and CSV export through Node.js.

Performance and usability

  • Faster MFT data transfer and indexing.
  • Duplicate analysis reuses completed full-drive inventories, filters unique sizes, samples large candidates before full hashing, and validates metadata concurrently.
  • Compact duplicate dashboard with summary cards, top-group charts and paged results.
  • Improved multi-drive selection, cached-location switching, Copy/Move destination navigation and completion feedback.
  • Updated documentation, screenshots and benchmark evidence.

Measured scan performance

Three repeated real C: MFT scans per version on the same machine, covering approximately 774,500 files:

Version Median scan + indexing time
v1.0.1 7.951 s
v1.0.3 4.400 s

44.7% less scan/indexing time in this local comparison. These were warm/repeated runs on a changing NTFS volume, not cold-cache trials or a universal speed guarantee. Scanner timings exclude UAC waiting.

Benchmark method, raw results and privacy-blurred screenshots

Reliability and security

  • Fixed Compare cancellation, lost live notifications after Copy/Move, and volume-identity preservation when re-saving scan archives.
  • Prevented CLI exports from overwriting a racing destination without --force.
  • Added resource budgets and cancellation checks for costly saved-scan imports.
  • Passed 406 regression tests, 6 Rust tests and 28 automated Electron interface scenario groups, with additional packaged-launch and Windows integration checks.

Downloads

  • Diskoryx-Setup-1.0.3.exe — Windows x64 per-user installer.
  • Diskoryx-Portable-1.0.3.exe — Windows x64 install-free launcher.
  • SHA256SUMS-1.0.3.txt — checksums for both executables.

Important notes

  • This is an unsigned, early testing release. Windows SmartScreen may display a warning.
  • Launch Diskoryx normally, not as administrator. Only the separate NTFS scanner requests UAC.
  • Diskoryx reports logical file sizes, not allocated “Size on disk”.
  • Duplicate contents are not proof that a file is safe to remove. Reused inventories describe the last completed scan; Rescan to include newer files.
  • Compare checks paths, sizes and recorded modification dates, not file contents or renames.
  • A known low-severity Windows shell recycle race remains: a concurrent process with relevant directory-modification rights can change an item between validation and recycling. No privilege escalation was demonstrated. Keep backups and avoid file actions in actively contested/shared directories.
  • Clean-account installation/uninstallation acceptance remains outstanding; automated checks do not certify every Windows configuration.

Disk analysis stays local. Saved scans and CSV files may contain private names and paths — inspect them before sharing.

Diskoryx v1.0.2 — Faster NTFS Scanning

Choose a tag to compare

@ekadic7 ekadic7 released this 21 Oct 22:04

Faster NTFS scanning

Diskoryx now uses compact binary scan data and more efficient folder-tree construction to reduce scanning overhead.

On the development machine, three validation scans of approximately 763,000 files completed in 3.74–4.38 seconds. Results vary depending on hardware, system activity, and scan contents.

Correctness and reliability

  • Improved hard-link size accounting when a file alias is unreachable.
  • Preserved full NTFS parent identities to prevent incorrect folder associations when records are reused.
  • Preserved paths under the NTFS $Extend metadata directory.
  • Added stricter validation of scanner output and broker transport.
  • Expanded regression coverage: 278 Node tests and 6 Rust tests pass.

Other updates

  • Updated UI styling, screenshots, benchmarks, and documentation.
  • Disk analysis remains fully offline.
  • The application runs as a normal user; only the separate NTFS scanner requests administrator approval.
