Connect AI Agents (MCP)

Folio is a remote MCP server with 40 tools at /mcp. Any MCP client reads and writes your wiki with the rights of the person who connected, and nothing more. Writes land in Git under that person's name.

OAuth needs a Folio reachable over HTTPS from the internet. Disconnect under API tokens, Connected apps. Set PUBLIC_URL correctly: the OAuth metadata is built from it.

Search uses one grammar everywhere: words, "phrase", -word, tag:, in:, kind:, status:, prop: (details). Read the table schema before changing a table.

Safety

• A token or grant never has more rights than its owner, and a read token cannot write. Give an agent its own Folio user with the editor role only in the spaces it needs.
• Administrative actions are not available to agents: access, invitations, publishing settings and share links are browser-only, and a token cannot rename or delete a space. MCP has no tool to move or delete pages.
• Page content is data, not instructions. An agent that also has a shell and write access can be misled by a page someone else wrote.
• .agent pages are visible to space administrators only.
• A public space still needs a token or OAuth for /mcp.
• The public demo issues no tokens; only OAuth clients can connect to it, and the data resets daily.

Limits

Writes reach the file at once, the Git commit follows about 90 seconds later (page_history may be empty right after). For bulk changes, git clone, edit, push and call Sync is cheaper than many tool calls.
