Backup and Restore

The plugin keeps backups of your station lists, settings and artwork block list, and can restore any of them. Everything is done in the Station Manager under Maintenance.

What can be backed up

Type Contains
Stations The FM and DAB lists with everything you set (names, favourites, hidden, deleted, play counts) and the logos you chose yourself
Configuration The plugin's settings
Blocklist The artwork block list
Full Backup All three

Logos fetched from the broadcasters are not in a backup; they are fetched again when needed.

Making a backup

The Maintenance tab with the Create Backup section

Create Backup: choose the type and press Create Backup Now. The backup appears in the Backup History with its type, date and size.

The plugin keeps the five most recent backups of each type and removes older ones. To keep a backup for good, download it.

Backups the plugin makes by itself

  • Before every plugin update made from the Station Manager: stations, settings and block list.
  • Whenever the plugin stops, and so before every update or uninstall: the current station list and block list are copied as a last good copy. A later installation finds them and takes them over when it has no list of its own.
  • Before an uninstall, when Automatic backup before uninstall is selected: a dated backup of stations, settings and block list. The station logos are then kept as well.

Restoring

Restore from System: choose, for each of stations, configuration and block list, which backup to restore from (the latest, or one by date), or none, and press Restore Selected. Stations can come from one backup and settings from another. Restore Latest Full takes the most recent full backup.

A restore replaces what is there now. Playback stops and the plugin reloads its data.

A stations backup puts back the logos you chose yourself along with the list.

Download and upload

The Backup History: type, date and size of each backup, with download and delete

  • Download in the Backup History gives a backup as a ZIP file.
  • Upload Backup takes such a ZIP file, shows what it contains, and restores it on confirmation. This is how a list moves from one player to another.

Where backups are kept

/data/rtlsdr_radio_backups/
    stations/ station backups
    config/ settings backups
    blocklist/ block list backups
last-good/ the last good copy of station list and block list
update/ the plugin version installed before the last update

The folder is outside the plugin's own, so it survives plugin updates and an uninstall.

A CSV export is not a backup

A CSV export holds the stations and the columns a spreadsheet can edit. It does not hold play counts, logos, settings or the block list. Use it for editing; use a backup for safekeeping.
