MTG farm volunteer client v34

Choose a tag to compare

@fuzzy1450 fuzzy1450 released this 19 Oct 15:22
Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.

One-zip Windows volunteer client for the MTG sim farm. Unzip, double-click run-client.bat, enter the farm URL and your runner credential on the first-run page, click Add, pick your work, and go.

New in v34: the Winnower.

  • A new work mode, Winnower, the last in the Evolve group, after the Necromancer. It gives kept walk steps more evidence: it plays more games for the kept step with the least evidence first, until the step's evidence holds or the step goes back to widening for its walk to decide again, and once no kept step has a pair left it plays a step's parent past the walk's depth. It never moves a walk's champion, and it leaves alone the step that made the walk's current champion. Its own two switches, play my walks (on by default) and help others' walks (walks whose bounty you signed up for), choose whose walks it serves; at least one must be on, and Add stays disabled until one is. A worker row playing its lease reads "winnow: walk , step K".
  • It needs a runner key made on your account page (Keys, on the farm's site), as Play my walk steps and the Necromancer do. A key that belongs to no site account is refused; the worker using it stops on its own, saying so, and your other workers keep playing.
  • Offered only by a farm that has the Winnower (its hello lists winnower); against an older farm the mode is greyed out with the reason, and a worker started in it there stops on its own, saying so, while your other workers keep playing.
  • Headless: farmrunner.py --mode winnower --walks mine, --walks bounties or --walks mine,bounties, or a winnower entry of --worker-modes.

Who should update: anyone on v33 or earlier who wants the Winnower. Let the client update itself (bundles from v12 on offer it in their banner) or download this zip. Nothing else changes from v33: the other modes, the rest of the page and the engine are as they were.

From v33: Backfill dead cards, and a safer import path. From v32: the Necromancer, and the page in the site's own type. From v31: the work modes in two groups, and the page in the site's look. From v30: engine 2.0.15+499e03087c5. From v29: Play my walk steps. From v28: a tuned engine JVM. From v27: one engine process per machine, and the harness inside the engine jar. From v26: owner-cast card rows. From v25: a worker row says how it ended. From v20: a stopped worker starts from its own row. From v16: workers persist across restarts. From v12: the client updates itself.

Ships Windows embeddable Python 3.12.10; the Forge engine (~200 MB) is downloaded on demand. Needs a farm whose /hello advertises the active_engine 2.0.15+499e03087c5 (accepted 2026-10-16); Play my walk steps also needs step_widening in its features (farm schema v12), the Necromancer needs necromancer (farm schema v14, live 2026-10-17), Backfill dead cards needs bands (no schema change, live 2026-10-18), and the Winnower needs winnower (farm schema v15, live 2026-10-19). No engine change from v30.

MTG farm volunteer client v33

Choose a tag to compare

@fuzzy1450 fuzzy1450 released this 18 Oct 15:41
Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.

Superseded by client-v34 (2026-10-19): the Winnower, a new work mode that deepens kept walk steps. Let the client update itself to v34, or download client-v34. This v33 asset stays downloadable, and its digest below holds for it.

One-zip Windows volunteer client for the MTG sim farm. Unzip, double-click run-client.bat, enter the farm URL and your runner credential on the first-run page, click Add, pick your work, and go.

New in v33: Backfill dead cards.

  • A third Backfill option, Backfill dead cards, after Backfill chosen decks. It plays the two decks whose dead or nearly dead cards have the least evidence against each other, a hundred fresh seeds at a time, so those cards turn up in many more opening hands. The games join the ordinary pool, and plain backfill fills in whenever no band is ready, so a worker in this mode has work whenever backfill does. Nothing to pick; a worker row's mode reads "backfill dead cards".
  • Any runner key will do. It is backfill: unlike Play my walk steps and the Necromancer, it needs no key made on your account page.
  • Offered only by a farm that deals dead-card bands (its hello lists bands); against an older farm the option is greyed out with the reason, and a worker started in it there stops on its own, saying so, while your other workers keep playing.
  • Headless: farmrunner.py --mode bands, or a bands entry of --worker-modes.
  • A safer import path. An unzipped bundle no longer puts the folder two levels above its own files at the front of Python's import path, so a stray json.py, http/ or mtglib/ sitting above the bundle (for one unzipped into Downloads, your user folder) can no longer shadow the client's own modules or the standard library, and a bundle unzipped at a drive root now starts instead of failing at import.

Who should update: anyone on v32 or earlier who wants Backfill dead cards. Let the client update itself (bundles from v12 on offer it in their banner) or download this zip. Nothing else changes from v32: the other modes, the rest of the page and the engine are as they were; the import-path fix changes no behaviour on a machine where nothing shadowed the client.

Needs a farm whose /hello advertises the active_engine 2.0.15+499e03087c5 (accepted 2026-10-16); Play my walk steps also needs step_widening in its features (farm schema v12), the Necromancer needs necromancer (farm schema v14, live 2026-10-17), and Backfill dead cards needs bands (no schema change). No engine change from v30.

MTG farm volunteer client v32

@fuzzy1450 fuzzy1450 released this 17 Oct 16:57
Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.

Superseded by client-v33 (2026-10-18): Backfill dead cards, a third Backfill option, and a safer import path for the unzipped bundle. Let the client update itself to v33, or download client-v33. This v32 asset stays downloadable, and its digest below holds for it.

One-zip Windows volunteer client for the MTG sim farm. Unzip, double-click run-client.bat, enter the farm URL and your runner credential on the first-run page, click Add, pick your work, and go.

New in v32: the Necromancer, and the page in the site's own type.

  • A fifth work mode, Necromancer, the last in the Evolve group. It gives killed walk steps a second hearing: it plays more games for the killed step with the least evidence first, until a step earns its way back to widening or stays dead, and once no killed step has a pair left it plays a step's champion past the walk's depth. Its own two switches, play my walks (on by default) and help others' walks (walks whose bounty you signed up for), choose whose walks it serves; at least one must be on, and Add stays disabled until one is. A worker row playing its lease reads "revive: walk , step K".
  • It needs a runner key made on your account page (Keys, on the farm's site), as Play my walk steps does. A key that belongs to no site account is refused; the worker using it stops on its own, saying so, and your other workers keep playing. That sentence now names only the worker's own mode, so a Play my walk steps worker no longer reads about the Necromancer.
  • Offered only by a farm that has the Necromancer (its hello lists necromancer); against an older farm the mode is greyed out with the reason.
  • The page draws in the site's two faces, Fraunces and Barlow Condensed, shipped in fonts/ and served by the client itself (SIL Open Font License 1.1; NOTICE.txt names them). v31 drew in Georgia and Arial on most machines.
  • Headless: farmrunner.py --mode necromancer --walks mine, --walks bounties or --walks mine,bounties, or a necromancer entry of --worker-modes.
