Getting Started

Opening a repository

From the repository switcher you can:

  • Open an existing repository with the native folder picker.
  • Initialize a new repository in an empty or existing folder.
  • Clone a repository by URL — pick a destination folder, then clone. Cloning can be cancelled mid-download. For a private repository you may need to sign in — see Signing In to Remotes.

Recently used repositories show up as cards with the repo name, path, current branch, ahead/behind counts, a dirty-changes indicator, and a small commit-activity sparkline. If a recent repository can't be found on disk anymore, its card is disabled and marked "Not found." You can remove any card from the list without deleting anything on disk.

Working with multiple repositories

Open repositories appear as tabs across the top of the window. You can:

  • Open another repository as a new tab.
  • Drag tabs to reorder them.
  • Close a tab (once more than one is open).

Each tab remembers its own state — the active view, selected file or commit, and an in-progress commit message — so switching tabs and restarting the app don't lose your place.

The main layout

  • Header bar — repository tabs, branch switcher, pull/push buttons, and Quick Switch.
  • Nav Pane (left, collapsible) — branches, stash, tags, remotes, and the current commit.
  • Main area — four tabs: Activity, Working Copy, Branch Graph & History, and Changelog.
  • Status bar (bottom) — current branch, repository path, and Git/app version.

Quick Switch

Press ⌘K (macOS) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) anywhere in the app to open Quick Switch — a searchable palette for jumping to branches, other open or recent repositories, files, commits, and settings, or running quick actions like fetch, pull, push, or opening a terminal.
