Thanks for the ideas, both make sense. Workplane on the cut: right now the section view only clips the model, so there is no face on the cut for the workplane tool to land on. Taking the cut plane as the workplane (so a sketch starts exactly there) is doable, I am noting it down. Nothing is promised or dated. Stroke for sketches: today a body only comes from a closed outline, and there is no line width. A ring already works if you draw one outline inside the other (the inner one becomes the hole). To understand what you need: do you mean (a) a closed shape that becomes just a frame with a wall thickness, or (b) an open line or curve that gets a width, like a stripe or a letter-like stroke? And would a "stroke width" field when finishing the sketch cover it? |

A stroke option for open paths in sketch tool is definitely a great idea that would help close the gap to Tinkercad which offers that functionality today. The way it works, you can basically draw an open path in the sketch tool, you can set the line width, join type (sharp, round, bevel) and path end caps (rounded, square, flat) |

Exactly, a closed shaped with a wall thickness! For example in tinker, when
I split a model and add dovetail to connect, I draw the dovetail, duplicate
it, use one side as the dove tail, the other 1 i make a hole, then
duplicate that hole, edit the duplicate hole and change it to stroke,
select outside stroke(options are inside, outside or centered on drawn
line), set to .2mm wall, then finish sketch. Now my dovetail hole has a
.2mm outline with it to give print tolerance. Loving layerling, thank you!
Its a great medium between tinker and fusion!

@jrs94yj @luk-saw, the workplane on the cut is out in 1.67.2. The section view has a new button, "Workplane here": it puts the workplane on the cut, so a sketch starts exactly there and shows the outline of the cut. Edit: in my first version of this comment I wrote that the stroke is not built yet. That was wrong, sorry: the stroke for sketches has been in since 1.51.0, see my reply above. |
Uh oh!
There was an error while loading. Please reload this page.
would be rad to section view a model down then place then workplane to sketch off that plane, as well, having stroke ability with the sketch drawing so its not a filled in area, rather a outline! thank you!
