  • The selection frame that takes what it touches is green (#572): Dragging a frame over the workplane from right to left (or the other way round with Alt) takes every part the frame touches, but the frame only differed from the enclosing one by its dashed edge. It now has its own colour, green and dashed, the way CAD programs mark it; the frame that must enclose the parts stays orange.
  • The snap grid stays reachable with several parts selected (#601): The panel for a selection of several parts reached down to the bottom of the screen and covered the snap grid control in the lower right corner, so on a laptop the grid could not be changed without first deselecting. The panel now carries the snap grid (and the snap-to-shapes switch) at its foot, the way the panel of a single part does; once the panel is dragged away, the control is back in the corner.
  • Narrower: an outline moved in by a width (#558): The fill of a sketch body could keep its area and widen it ("Wider"), or build a wall inside, outside or centred, but not move the edge of a filled area inwards. A new choice, Narrower, under Fill in the properties of a sketch body and under Align in the sketch's line panel, keeps the area filled and takes the line width off all round; the holes grow by the same. One sketch then gives the fit hole and the part that passes through it 0.5 mm smaller, or a wall inside a shape. It is built by the exact kernel where it can (an arc stays a cylinder), a width the outline cannot give leaves nothing, and the MCP bridge takes shrink for align too. Asked for by @jbeardon (#558), with @RobbieKnobbie.
  • The corner ruler names its numbers by the axis they count along (#597): The three green numbers of the corner ruler carried the tooltips "X position to ruler" and "Y position to ruler" by the arm they stand on, but the arm that is called x in the code runs to the back at first, so the number called X changed when you moved a body to the back, and the one called Y when you moved it sideways. The numbers are now named by where their arm points: X to the right, Y to the back, Z up, also after you turn the corner by a quarter. Reported by @willi1955 on GitHub.
  • The space between the letters can be set (#594): A text and a name tag have a new property, the letter spacing, in per cent of the letter size on top of the font's own advance: 0 leaves it as the font made it, above it the letters stand further apart (up to 300), below it tighter (down to -50). Straight and curved text have it; the letters keep their size and the box follows the line, so a name tag stays as tall as it was. It is built into a copy of the typeface with the advances changed, so the layout, the fit into the box, the fills and the edge tool all read the same spacing. Arabic and Hebrew take none, their letters join up. In the properties (Letter spacing (%)), in the MCP action layerling_update_object (spacing), in the saved file (textSpacing) and in the guide, chapter 8. Tried with a straight text at -20, 0, 60 and 150 per cent and a curved one; the translations of the label are in English, German, Czech, Dutch, French, Slovenian and Russian, the others fall back to English. • Bodies under a sketch show their real outline (#596): In the sketch view every body on the workplane that was neither an imported mesh nor a round shape was drawn as the rectangle of its width and depth, so a polygon, a star, a heart and a wedge all looked like the same square. Such a body is now drawn with the outline of its own mesh (the triangles of its underside), standing where it stands and turned as it is turned, and the points of the sketch snap to that outline. Boxes and round shapes keep their cheaper drawing, and a body of more than 20,000 triangles stays a rectangle. Tried in the sketch view with a polygon, a rotated polygon, a star, a heart and a wedge: their outlines agree with the 3D view; the snapping to the new outline and groups of bodies (still a rectangle) were not tried. Reported by @cadbent on GitHub.
  • The shortcuts print on one sheet (#490): The printed list of shortcuts (1.87.0) was in large type and ran over three pages in the editor and in sketch mode. It now fits one side of an A4 or a Letter sheet: black on white, three columns, without a heading, a long group running over into the next column, a hairline between the rows, the keys on the right of each name or below it when they do not fit. Measured by printing to PDF in headless Edge: one page for the editor and for sketch mode, on A4 and on Letter, in German. Not looked at in other languages, where longer names may need more room. • The tape measure snaps at a right angle and deletes on Shift or Ctrl click (#589): Measuring the shortest distance between two inner walls of a hole or between two bodies needed eyeballing the second point, and removing a measurement meant switching to Delete measurement part first. When the first point of a measurement has been placed, the second point now catches at the foot of the perpendicular on an opposing edge or face (and across a cylindrical bore along the first face's normal, or radially on a circular edge) within 16 pixels of the pointer, or anywhere on the hovered edge or face while Shift is held; on the same face or on the workplane, Shift locks the measurement to the main axis. Moving an endpoint of a measurement does the same. While Add measurement is active, holding Shift or Ctrl (Cmd on a Mac) highlights a measurement point or line under the pointer and a click removes it right away. Described in chapter 10 of the guide in English and German. Suggested by @lukyanenkomax on GitHub.
