SMW Maker v00.30

Choose a tag to compare

@iHaiDeeZ iHaiDeeZ released this 19 Oct 05:04

SMW Maker v00.30: makes SMW v00.30 from your own Super Mario Bros. Wonder 1.0.0 dump, on Windows, with nothing to
install.

In the game (v00.30)

  • No more crash after a while of playing. The game's textures (ASTC, which the PS4's GPU can't read) were
    unpacked to plain RGBA8, four to eight times their size: a session of the world map and courses used up the PS4's
    4.6 GB of video memory, and the game ended ("thread constructor failed" in crash.log). They are now kept as BC3,
    a quarter of the memory. NX_ASTC_BC=0 in /data/SMW/config.txt brings back RGBA8.
  • If a helper thread can't start, its work runs on the calling thread instead of ending the game.

In SMW Maker

  • It won't eat your RAM. The package build runs as many compiles at once as fit in the memory that is free when
    it starts, keeping 2.5 GB for Windows, and every heavy step runs at below-normal priority so your PC stays usable.
    Measured: one compile takes up to 0.7 GB; on a PC with 6.9 GB free it ran 3 at a time and never left less than
    6 GB available. 8 GB of RAM works, just slower.
  • Starting it from a folder with spaces in its path works for every step.
  • From v00.29.4 and v00.29.5: no Permission denied at the import, no build.ninja still dirty loop.

How to use

  1. Download SMW-Maker-v00.30.zip, unzip it anywhere and open SMW-Maker.exe (it isn't signed: if
    SmartScreen stops it, More info, then Run anyway).
  2. Pick your dump, prod.keys, title.keys and an output folder with Browse..., then press Start.
  3. It makes the game data (the SMW folder for /data/SMW) and your package (SMW-v00.30.pkg). Type your PS4's
    FTP address to have both uploaded, or copy them yourself, then install the package with GoldHEN's Package
    Installer. Updating from v00.29: untick the game data, build the package, install it over the old one.

Needs Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and ~50 GB free for the work folder. What's inside tools/ is in THIRD-PARTY.txt.
The package is never in a release: it is the game's own code, so everyone makes theirs from their own dump.

SMW Maker v00.29 (build fix)

Choose a tag to compare

@iHaiDeeZ iHaiDeeZ released this 19 Oct 03:16

Fix: the package build no longer stops with ninja: error: manifest 'build.ninja' still dirty after 100 tries.
The zip's files were dated in my time zone (UTC+3), so on PCs a few hours behind they looked like they came from the
future, and CMake kept regenerating the build. Every file in this zip is dated 2026-01-01, and SMW Maker now resets
any future-dated file before it builds. Download this one and press Start again: the import and recompile you already
did are kept, so it goes straight to the build.

Also in this version (from v00.29.4): no more cannot create folder C: (Permission denied) at the import.

SMW Maker: a standalone Windows app that makes SMW from your own Super Mario Bros. Wonder 1.0.0 dump.
No WSL, Python or compilers to install: everything it needs is in its folder.

  1. Download SMW-Maker-v00.29.zip, unzip it anywhere and open SMW-Maker.exe (it isn't signed: if
    SmartScreen stops it, More info, then Run anyway).
  2. Pick your dump, prod.keys, title.keys and an output folder with Browse..., then press Start.
  3. It makes the game data (the SMW folder for /data/SMW) and your package (SMW-v00.29.pkg, the game's
    code recompiled from your dump with the bundled clang 21 and OpenOrbis toolchain).
  4. Type your PS4's FTP address to have both uploaded (/data/SMW and /data/pkg), or copy them yourself. Install
    the package with GoldHEN's Package Installer.

Needs Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), ~50 GB free for the work folder (its path without spaces) and 16 GB of RAM
recommended. What's inside tools/ and where it comes from is in THIRD-PARTY.txt.

The package itself is never in a release: it is the game's own code, so everyone makes theirs from their own dump,
and nobody should share it.

SMW Maker v00.29 (import fix)

Choose a tag to compare

@iHaiDeeZ iHaiDeeZ released this 18 Oct 19:11

Fix: the import no longer stops with cannot create folder C: (Permission denied) (or H:, or another drive).
Windows refuses to "create" the root of some drives instead of saying it already exists, which stopped the importer
whenever the work folder was on such a drive, the default C: included. If you got that error with v00.29.3,
download this one; your files and settings stay as they are.

SMW Maker v00.29

@iHaiDeeZ iHaiDeeZ released this 18 Oct 18:06

  3. It makes:
    • the game data: the SMW folder for /data/SMW (about 5 minutes after the first import);
    • your package: SMW-v00.29.pkg, the game's code recompiled from your dump and built for the PS4 with the
      bundled clang 21 and OpenOrbis toolchain (13-25 minutes on a fast PC, an hour or two on a smaller one).
  4. Type your PS4's FTP address to have both uploaded (/data/SMW and /data/pkg), or copy them yourself. Install
    the package with GoldHEN's Package Installer.

Needs Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), ~50 GB free for the work folder and 16 GB of RAM recommended.

Tested from this zip on Windows: the game data is byte-identical to the Linux pipeline's, and the package's code
matches the Linux build. What's inside tools/ and where it comes from is in THIRD-PARTY.txt.

The package itself is never in a release: it is the game's own code, so everyone makes theirs from their own dump,
and nobody should share it.

SMW Data Tool v00.29.2: build your own package

Choose a tag to compare

@iHaiDeeZ iHaiDeeZ released this 18 Oct 16:11

The data tool now builds your own SMW package too.

Tick Build my package in the window: the tool sets up the PS4 toolchain in WSL by itself (clang 21, PacBrew's
OpenOrbis toolchain and this project's prebuilt SDK),
recompiles the game's code from your dump and writes SMW-v00.29.pkg next to the SMW folder. With your PS4's
FTP address it uploads the data to /data/SMW and the package to /data/pkg; install it with GoldHEN's
Package Installer.

  • Tested from a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 WSL: about 25 minutes on a 20-thread PC with 16 GB of memory, after the game
    data. Plan for an hour or two on a smaller PC, and ~40 GB free on the WSL drive.
  • A dump the data tool already imported isn't imported again.
  • From a Linux shell: sudo bash scripts/install-build-deps.sh, then scripts/make-pkg-from-dump.sh (see
    docs/BUILDING.md).

Download SMW-Data-Tool-v00.29.2.zip, unzip it and double-click windows/SMW-Data-Tool.cmd.

The package is still never in a release: it holds the game's own code, so everyone builds it from their own dump,
and nobody should share theirs.

SMW Data Tool v00.29.1

Choose a tag to compare

@iHaiDeeZ iHaiDeeZ released this 18 Oct 15:25

The Windows data tool is now a single window.

  • Browse... buttons open File Explorer to pick your Super Mario Bros. Wonder 1.0.0 dump, prod.keys,
    title.keys and the output folder; keys next to the dump are filled in by themselves.
  • A progress bar, the current step and a live log while it works; Cancel stops it.
  • Type your PS4's FTP address and the SMW folder is uploaded to /data/SMW when it's made, or press
    Upload only later. Files already on the PS4 are skipped, so an interrupted upload resumes.
  • The Linux tools are installed without asking for a password.

Download SMW-Data-Tool-v00.29.1.zip, unzip it and double-click windows/SMW-Data-Tool.cmd.

No package and no game files: the package is built from your own dump with docs/BUILDING.md.

SMW v00.29

Choose a tag to compare

@iHaiDeeZ iHaiDeeZ released this 18 Oct 14:37

The first public release of SMW: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Recomp on jailbroken PS4.

What's in it

  • SMW-Data-Tool-v00.29.zip: the Windows data tool. Double-click windows/SMW-Data-Tool.cmd, pick your own
    Super Mario Bros. Wonder 1.0.0 dump (.nsp / .xci) with your prod.keys and title.keys, and it makes the
    SMW folder for /data/SMW on your PS4 (and can upload it over FTP). It runs upstream's importer and shader
    translator in WSL; 20-40 minutes.
  • The source: the PS4 port as a patch on Super Mario Bros. Wonder Recomp,
    the PS4 runtime pieces and the build scripts.

What's not in it

No package. The SMW package's eboot.bin is the game's own code, recompiled from a dump, so it can't be
shared. Build yours from your own copy with docs/BUILDING.md.
No game files, assets or keys are in this release.

The port, as of v00.29

  • Menus and world map at 60 fps; courses at ~30 (the game's own rate when 60 can't be held), at FSR Quality.
  • FSR 1 with four quality modes and native 1080p, set from the L3 + R3 quick menu along with the frame counter,
    FSR sharpness, CPU core layout and button mapping.
  • Up to four DualShock 4 controllers.
  • Pipelines and ASTC textures prepared in the background; pipelined GPU submits.
  • A boot screen with a progress bar.

Tested on a launch-model PS4 with GoldHEN.

SMW PS4 SDK 1

@iHaiDeeZ iHaiDeeZ released this 18 Oct 15:40

The prebuilt PS4 libraries scripts/make-pkg-from-dump.sh downloads to build your own SMW package (it checks the
SHA-256 below). Nothing to install by hand: the data tool's Build my package option uses it.

  • sysroot/: libc++ 21 for OpenOrbis with the libc overlay, and the open-source libraries it was built with
  • build/mesa/: Mesa's RADV Vulkan driver for the PS4 GPU (Crema), static libraries

No game code, no Sony files. Licenses in NOTICE.txt. The OpenOrbis toolchain comes from PacBrew's own repository.
