Release list
HK: DualSouls 1.0.3
Fixes a Steam copy being rejected with "this patch is for the GOG version". Also moves the port's settings into Hollow Knight's own options screens, so Dual Screen, Touch Controls and the whole mod menu now live where you would look for them, and adds a dual-screen switch and an update check to the launcher.
Using the Mods menu
Everything from the bottom-screen mod pane, in the game's own settings.
- Open Options → Mods.
- Pick a Group on the first row: General, World, Combat, Encounters, Charms, Economy or Save states.
- The rows below change to that group. Reset mods puts everything back to vanilla.
Changing anything here switches the mod engine on by itself, and the bottom-screen pane stays in step — both edit the same settings.
New
- Mods in the game's options, all 24 tweaks grouped on one screen, with the save-state slots as Save, Load and Delete rows.
- Dual Screen in Options → Game, and Touch Controls in Options → Controller, below Vibration. Touch controls offer Auto, On or Off; Auto shows the on-screen pad only when no controller is connected.
- Dual screen switch in the launcher, so it can be set before the game starts. On a device with no second screen it is shown but inert, and the port keeps everything on the one display.
- Update check in the launcher, run once in the background when it opens. Finding a newer release offers its page; nothing is downloaded or installed for you.
Fixes
- Fixed: a Steam copy rejected as "the GOG version".
HK: DualSouls 1.0.2
Bottom-screen dialogue is finally comfortable to read, bigger text in a taller box that holds still while you read it, and the speaker's name is complete, correctly placed and stays up for the whole conversation. Also redraws every texture in the game at roughly twice the detail, and stops the map showing a dream gate on saves that never earned one.
Using the black background
Appears in the mod menu, nothing to restart.
- Open the companion's Tweaks page (the gear, bottom-left).
- Turn on BLACK BACKGROUND in the General group.
Your other tweaks are untouched, and RESET clears it like any other.
New
- Sharper art throughout, textures are packed at 8 bits per pixel instead of 3.56, which lifts the game's uncompressed sprite art by about 5.6 dB and its masks by 8 dB. The download grows by 160 MB.
- Black background for the bottom screen, pure black instead of the dimmed mirror of the main screen.
Fixes
- Fixed: dialogue text too small to read, a full-screen UI element was being measured as part of the box, which pinned the zoom at its lower limit so no setting could enlarge it. The box is now measured from its own ornaments and HK's text container is narrowed and made taller, which is what actually grows the glyphs without adding page turns.
- Fixed: speaker names cut short, names split across the game's three title lines lost everything but the middle one, so "Snail Shaman" read as "Shaman". All three lines are drawn now, at the sizes the game intended.
- Fixed: tutorial and prompt overlays small, low and off-centre, they are authored for the main screen and were being mirrored one-to-one onto a shorter panel.
- Fixed: a dream gate icon on saves without the ability, loading a save state borrowed the game's dream-gate warp to place you and never handed the fields back, so the save kept claiming a gate existed. Saves already affected are repaired on load.
- Fixed: your shade never appearing on the map, and, worse, the recorded shade position following you around, the call used to draw it is the game's "record the shade here" call and was writing to your save on every map refresh.
- Fixed: the bottom map staying a rough map after buying the full area map, buying was detected but only refreshed pins, and rooms are only revealed on a full pass.
- Fixed: several minor bugs and stability issues.
