OfficeAgent.NET 1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@ilia-sokolov ilia-sokolov released this 30 Sep 07:57

Highlights

  • Microsoft Copilot Studio agents can complete in-place edits. Set OfficeAgent__StrictToolSchemas=false on the MCP server and parameters that have a default become optional, so Copilot Studio no longer asks the user for a file name before every save.
  • A host can require every plan to carry its snapshot. With OfficeAgent__RequirePlanSnapshot=true, a plan without one is refused with snapshot-required before the document is read, so a retried call cannot apply the same plan twice, for example append the same table row again.

Reliability and compatibility

Both settings are opt-in, and every default keeps 1.0 behaviour; the public API and wire contract change only by addition. A newName sent with saveMode Replace is still refused, but now by the tool layer with a message that names newName, before storage is touched. Other invalid-argument refusals from storage keep withholding the provider's own message and now list the call's arguments that reached storage. The agent guidance now states that the snapshot covers Excel workbook, worksheet, table and note XML.

Install

dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Core --version 1.1.0
dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Word --version 1.1.0
dotnet tool install --global OfficeAgent.Mcp --version 1.1.0

Documentation

OfficeAgent.NET 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@ilia-sokolov ilia-sokolov released this 23 Sep 19:44

Highlights

  • Stable 1.x public API and wire contracts for structured Word, PowerPoint, and Excel workflows.
  • Explicit recovery outcomes for writes that may have reached storage, including output locators and SHA-256 hashes for reconciliation.
  • Verified native Office compatibility evidence and a tested OS-isolated renderer reference.

Reliability and compatibility

Tool responses now use camelCase consistently. Excel cell and PowerPoint shape targets use plan discriminators. Failed writes report whether output was committed, not written, uncertain, or written but not registered; reconcile uncertain outputs before retrying. Engine extension seams marked OFFICEAGENT001 are outside the 1.x compatibility promise. Existing callers should follow the upgrade guide before moving from 0.9.

Install

dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Core --version 1.0.0
dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Word --version 1.0.0
dotnet tool install --global OfficeAgent.Mcp --version 1.0.0

Documentation

OfficeAgent.NET 0.9.0

Choose a tag to compare

@ilia-sokolov ilia-sokolov released this 20 Sep 21:13

Highlights

  • Create, inspect, and edit Word documents, PowerPoint decks, and Excel workbooks through typed .NET, Agent Framework, and MCP workflows.
  • Preflight template batches, bind text, images, and native charts, compare Word documents, and assemble reviewable document packets.
  • Use capability discovery, bounded rendering, filesystem or SharePoint storage, and hosted connection isolation for agent integrations.
  • Start with the standalone package-backed QuickEdit sample or the generated C# API reference.

Reliability and compatibility

  • v0.9.0 enforces edit-plan contract 0.2. Omit contractVersion for legacy behavior or send exactly "0.2"; unknown fields, operations, and enum values are rejected.
  • OOXML ingestion applies host-owned resource ceilings. Documents that exceed a ceiling are refused instead of being processed.
  • Word edits that cross another author's pending revision are refused with revision-overlap to preserve correct accept and reject behavior.
  • Release artifacts include checksums, CycloneDX SBOMs, signed attestations, and a package-backed sample. Pin all OfficeAgent packages to the same version.

Install

dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Core --version 0.9.0
dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Word --version 0.9.0
dotnet tool install --global OfficeAgent.Mcp --version 0.9.0

Add OfficeAgent.PowerPoint, OfficeAgent.Excel, OfficeAgent.AgentFramework, OfficeAgent.SharePoint, or OfficeAgent.Rendering at 0.9.0 when the workflow needs them.

Documentation

@ilia-sokolov ilia-sokolov released this 12 Sep 18:47

OfficeAgent.NET 0.8.0

Build complete Word, PowerPoint, and Excel workflows for agents with structured plans, validation, previews, and audit receipts.

Highlights

  • Assemble ordered Word documents while preserving compatible formatting, native parts, headers, identifiers, and source traceability.
  • Populate tagged Word and PowerPoint templates, expand repeating Word table rows, and create bounded batches with one receipt per output.
  • Compare two Word documents and generate a snapshot-bound plan containing native tracked insertions and deletions.
  • Create and update editable PowerPoint charts with embedded workbooks for column, bar, line, and pie charts.
  • Inspect and edit bounded Excel ranges, values, formulas, tables, and cell notes.
  • Record revision identity and structured audit receipts with input, output, and plan hashes.
  • Apply principal-aware connection access policies, use the authenticated hosted gateway sample, and optionally render documents out of process.

Reliability and compatibility

  • Word comparison fails closed when unsupported package content changes.
  • Repeating rows remap package identifiers and reject references that cannot be cloned safely.
  • Excel protects shared and array formulas, includes shared strings in drift detection, and requests recalculation after writes.
  • Rendering enforces time, memory, page-count, and output-size limits. Structural previews remain available without a renderer.
  • Release checks validate documentation, package metadata, dependencies, NuGet, GitHub, and MCP Registry alignment.

Install

dotnet tool install --global OfficeAgent.Mcp --version 0.8.0

dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Core --version 0.8.0
dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Word --version 0.8.0
dotnet add package OfficeAgent.PowerPoint --version 0.8.0
dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Excel --version 0.8.0

OfficeAgent.NET 0.7.0

Review Word documents with complete native tracked-change coverage and run the MCP server without configured storage.

Highlights

  • Track text, paragraph, table, image, formatting, page, break, and note operations in Word.
  • Inspect and manage comment threads, footnotes, endnotes, page geometry, and every supported revision marker.
  • Keep documents in an in-memory session or process one-call inline content without configuring filesystem storage.
  • Configure connections through a JSON file, OFFICEAGENT_CONFIG, environment variables, or command-line settings.
  • Use the packaged Word document review skill, fictional contract, and ContractReview agent sample.

Reliability and compatibility

  • Atomic filesystem writes retry temporary Windows file locks and report durable provider errors.
  • Invalid document packages return a clear format error, and regular-expression searches have a two-second execution bound.
  • Word removal operations default to tracked markup. Pass "mode": "Direct" when immediate deletion is required.
  • A server with no configured connections starts with an in-memory session connection and document creation enabled.
  • Registration tools appear only when a filesystem or SharePoint connection provides a source-addressing boundary.

Install

dotnet tool install --global OfficeAgent.Mcp --version 0.7.0

dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Core --version 0.7.0
dotnet add package OfficeAgent.Word --version 0.7.0
dotnet add package OfficeAgent.AgentFramework --version 0.7.0
