Crop Fermentation: Turning Your Harvest into Gold!

Have you ever looked at a perfectly ripe harvest and thought, "I wish I could make this even more special?" Well, that's where the Crop Fermentation system comes in! It's one of the most rewarding ways to increase your farm's profits, turning your everyday crops into high-value delicacies and exquisite wines.

The Basics: What is Fermentation?

Fermentation is the art of letting your crops rest and "mature" in your cellar. Instead of selling your crops immediately, you place them into a Keg. Over time, the natural processes of the cellar will transform them into something much more valuable!

How to Start Fermenting

Ready to start your first batch? Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. A Fermentable Crop: Not every crop is meant for the cellar! Look for crops that have a "Fermentation Time" listed in their description.
  2. A Salt Supply: Salt is the secret ingredient to keep things moving. When you start a fermentation, you'll need to provide some salt.
    • Pro Tip: The amount of salt needed depends on how long the crop takes to ferment and its quality (Tier).
  3. A Spot in the Cellar: You'll need an available slot in your cellar. As you expand your cellar, you'll be able to host more Kegs at once!

The Process: Once you initiate fermentation, your base crop will be consumed, and a Keg will appear in your cellar inventory.

The Waiting Game (Maturation)

Patience is a virtue, especially in winemaking!

  • The Countdown: Every time your cellar is processed (usually once a day), the daysUntilMature on your Keg will decrease by 1.
  • How Long? The time it takes depends on the crop. Standard crops follow their natural fermentation time, while special varieties like Wine might have different requirements based on the yeast you use.
  • When is it ready? Once the countdown hits zero, your Keg is "Mature" and ready for the market!

Making it Profitable: Value & Growth

This is where the magic happens!

  • While Maturing: A Keg currently fermenting has a value of 0. Don't worry, it's just "cooking"!
  • After Maturation: Once your Keg is ready, its value starts to grow exponentially. The longer it sits in your cellar after maturing, the more valuable it becomes!
  • Wine vs. Crops:
    • Wine has its own special interest rates and growth limits, making it a premium product.
    • Other Crops use a standard interest rate based on the crop's Tier and base value.

A Word of Caution: Spoilage

While the rewards are great, be careful!

  • Wine is Safe: Your precious wines are protected from spoilage!
  • Crops can Spoil: For non-wine fermented crops, there is a small risk of spoilage. The longer a matured crop sits in the cellar, the higher the chance it might spoil.
  • Strategy Tip: Keep a close eye on your cellar! You want to find that "sweet spot" where the value is high, but the risk of spoilage is still low.

Summary for Success

  1. Collect Salt: Always keep a steady supply of salt on hand.
  2. Plan your Cellar: Make sure you have enough space for all your ambitions!
  3. Watch the Clock: Know when your Kegs are ready and move them to market to maximize your profit while minimizing spoilage risk.

Happy fermenting, Farmhands! May your cellars always be full and your profits ever-growing!
