SimpleSync 0.6.0
- Published sites redesigned, now with a link graph of the published notes: the look of the SimpleSync website (self-hosted Geist type, floating top bar with a Log in button), light/dark switch, a filter for the navigation, a highlighted "on this page" list, heading links, copy buttons for code, a reading progress bar, a mobile menu and print styles.
SimpleSync 0.5.0
- AI agents (MCP): the server is now an MCP server at
/mcp, so Claude and other AI agents can list, read, search, create, edit, append to, move and delete notes without a local folder, including from scheduled tasks. Claude connects as a custom connector with a sign-in and consent page (OAuth); other agents use a token from the new AI agents page. Access is per vault or all vaults, read-only or read-write, never more than the user's own role, and revocable at any time. Changes sync to devices and are kept in the version history. - Devices: the admin Devices tab now shows the server-side vault name of each device.
- Fix: opening a folder in the web editor now shows its contents.
- Fix: empty folders now sync between devices, without waiting for a file inside.
SimpleSync 0.4.1
- Published sites look better: a top bar with the site name, navigation on the left, an "On this page" outline on the right, the note's own heading as the page title with the date and reading time, "Linked from" cards for notes that link here, previous/next links, and a front page of note cards with short excerpts when no front page note is set.
- Web editor: the reading mode now uses the full width (the text was squeezed into a narrow column).
- Clicking a vault in the list opens the vault page again; the editor is one click away with "Open notes".
SimpleSync 0.4.0
- Web editor: open a vault's notes in the browser and edit them without Obsidian. File tree with search, edit / side-by-side / reading modes, automatic saving,
[[link suggestions, toolbar and shortcuts, image paste and drop, create, rename and delete of notes and folders. Saves go through the same sync as the plugin, reach devices within seconds and merge with concurrent edits (or keep a conflict copy). Read-only members get the reading view. - Publishing: vault owners can publish chosen notes (
publish: true) or a whole folder as a public website at/p/<address>/, with a front page, navigation, and Obsidian-style rendering (wikilinks, embeds, callouts, highlights, tags). Unpublished notes and files stay private, including their names. - New look for the web admin, matching the website: floating navigation, segmented tabs, cleaner tables, icons instead of emoji, dark and light theme.
SimpleSync 0.3.5
- Download for Obsidian: every vault in the web admin can be downloaded as a ready-to-open Obsidian vault with its notes and the SimpleSync plugin already installed, enabled and set up (server address, name, vault). Open the folder in Obsidian, trust it, enter your password, and it connects by itself. The Plugin page offers the same as an empty starter vault. The ZIP never contains a password or token.
- Conflict copies are named after the user who made the edit, e.g.
Note (conflict 2026-09-25 1530 jirka).md, instead of the device.
SimpleSync 0.3.4
Security hardening after a review:
- Login throttling can no longer be bypassed: besides the per-address limit there is a per-account limit (30 failed attempts in 15 minutes from any address), and a forged
X-Forwarded-Forheader is ignored. - Unknown names and wrong passwords take the same time; at most a few password checks run at once.
- Failed logins are logged with the name and address.
- The web admin sends a strict Content-Security-Policy (no inline scripts).
- The plugin rejects server paths that would leave the vault, and warns before logging in over plain http:// outside the home network.
- The plugin settings explain up front that connecting to a server vault with files replaces this vault's content (nothing is lost: local files go to Obsidian's trash).
SimpleSync 0.3.3
- Plugin settings use Obsidian's declarative settings API (Obsidian 1.13+), so they show up in the settings search. Older Obsidian versions keep the same settings page.
- Stricter typing of server responses in the plugin (no
any). - Releases now contain only
main.js,manifest.jsonandstyles.css, with GitHub build provenance attestations.
About vault access: SimpleSync is a sync plugin, so it lists all files in the vault to compare them with your own SimpleSync server. File names and contents are sent only to the server address you enter, nowhere else.
SimpleSync 0.3.2
Rename to SimpleSync (plugin id simplesync, 0.3.2) "Simple Sync" is too close to an existing plugin name, so every user-visible name becomes SimpleSync, the plugin id becomes simplesync and repository links point to jirkacepelka/SimpleSync. Simple Sync 0.3.1
Rename the whole product to Simple Sync (0.3.1) Every user-visible name is now Simple Sync: web admin (title, header, footer, all eight locales), plugin texts and manifest description, server help and log messages, README, deploy files and the ZimaOS app title. Technical identifiers stay as they are so existing installs and the directory submission keep working: the repository name, the ghcr.io/jirkacepelka/obsisync image, the Go module, the obsisync binary, OBSISYNC_* variables and the ping app id. ObsiSync 0.3.0
Rename the Obsidian plugin to Simple Sync (0.3.0) The Obsidian community directory rejects plugin names derived from "Obsidian", so the plugin is now "Simple Sync" with id simple-sync. The server keeps its ObsiSync name; web texts that point at the plugin, the downloadable ZIP and the release asset use the new name.
