Money Tracker 2 Last updated: April 13, 2026
Money Tracker 2 is designed with a local-first approach. All your financial data stays on your device. You have full control over your data at all times.
The app stores the following data locally on your device:
- Transactions (description, amount, date, category)
- Accounts and institutions
- Categories and budgets
- Tags and category rules
- App settings (theme, language)
None of this data is sent to any server.
If you choose to create a Money Tracker account for bank linking, the following is stored on our server:
- Email address and hashed password
- Encrypted Plaid access tokens (one per linked institution)
- Sync cursor for fetching new transactions
- Subscription status and expiration
Your transactions, balances, categories, budgets, and all other financial data are never stored on our server.
If you use Plaid Direct Mode, your Plaid API credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device and are never transmitted to our servers.
You can export all your data at any time as a ZIP file of CSV files through Settings > Export Data. This creates a complete backup that you own and control.
You can import previously exported data through Settings > Import Data. This replaces existing data on the device with the imported file.
To delete all data on your device, you can:
- Delete the app — Removing Money Tracker 2 from your device permanently deletes all locally stored data.
- Import an empty file — Overwrites existing data.
If you created a Money Tracker account, you can permanently delete it and all associated server-side data from Settings > Money Tracker Account > Delete Account. This removes your email, encrypted Plaid tokens, and subscription records from our server.
You can unlink any bank institution from the Accounts page. This revokes the Plaid connection and removes the access token from our server. Your previously imported transactions remain on your device.
Money Tracker 2 does not collect analytics, advertising, or tracking data. The only server-side data is what you explicitly create by registering a backend account, and you can delete it at any time.
If you purchase a subscription through the App Store, Apple processes your payment. You can manage your subscription and review Apple's data practices in your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
