Effects Reference

Nourished rewards a balanced diet with passive buffs β€” and penalizes neglect with debuffs. Everything runs automatically in the background. No potions required.


βš–οΈ How It Works

Effects are checked every 2 seconds based on your current nutrient levels. When a nutrient crosses a threshold, the associated effect kicks in or fades out. You don't need to do anything β€” just eat.

Effects fall into three categories:

🟒 Balance Bonuses All nutrients are high
πŸ”΄ Neglect Penalties A specific nutrient is low
🌿 Raw Food Penalties Eating raw or undercooked food

🟒 Balance Bonuses

When all your nutrients are above the bonus threshold, you'll receive:

Effect What it does
❀️ Max Health Boost Increases your maximum health
πŸ’š Regeneration Slowly restores health over time

Both effects last as long as your diet stays balanced, and fade if any nutrient drops too low.

πŸ’‘ You don't need to keep every bar full β€” just above the bonus threshold (configurable, default is around 70%).


πŸ”΄ Neglect Penalties

Each nutrient group has its own penalty. Let a group drop below the threshold and you'll start suffering for it.

πŸ§€ Dairy Fragility (increased damage taken)

Penalties fade as soon as you eat something in that group and your nutrient bar recovers past the threshold.

The neglect threshold is configurable β€” by default it triggers around 25%.


πŸ›Œ Sleep Bonus

If all your nutrients are at 50% or higher when you sleep, you'll wake up with:

  • Regeneration I for 30 seconds

A reward for keeping your diet balanced overnight. A good reason to eat before bed.


πŸ₯© Raw Food Penalty

Eating raw or undercooked meat will hurt you. The severity depends on how raw the food is.

Tier Effects Duration
🟑 Mild Hunger 30 seconds
🟠 Medium Slowness + Weakness 60 seconds
πŸ”΄ Severe Poison + Nausea + Blindness 60 seconds

A high Proteins nutrient level builds resistance to raw food penalties β€” the more protein you've eaten recently, the less severe the effects.

Raw food penalties can be disabled entirely in config under Effects β†’ Enable Raw Food Penalty.


βš™οΈ Customizing Effects

All effects are stored in config/nourished/effects.json and are fully customizable.

You can:

  • Change which vanilla effect is applied
  • Adjust the trigger threshold
  • Change effect duration and amplifier
  • Add entirely new effects tied to any nutrient

Effect rules also support multiple trigger types:

above Nutrient is above the threshold
all_above All nutrients are above the threshold
any_below Any nutrient is below the threshold
between Nutrient is between two thresholds

You can edit effects.json directly, or use the in-game Effect Builder under Mod Options β†’ Nourished β†’ Effects.

Watch the Diet Screen. The Active Effects section shows you exactly what's running right now β€” buffs and penalties alike.

Balance first, perfection second. You don't need all bars maxed. Just avoid leaving any group empty for too long.

Cook your food. Raw food penalties stack fast and the severe tier is no joke. Bring a campfire.
