v1.0.37

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Oct 06:17

1.0.37.0 - 2026-10-07

  • Added Gain Map chromaticity comparison between the SDR base and reconstructed alternate image, with independently switchable layers and a neutral overlap color. Comparison captures share a preview version and retain density bins rather than extra pixel buffers.
  • Improved chromaticity plot sizing, axis labels, gamut boundary labels and density contrast, with colors that follow the selected light or dark theme. Comparison mode hides the single-preview pixel marker to avoid mixing different analysis sources.
  • Localized the new comparison controls and explanations across all 12 supported languages, and added regression coverage for RGB versus uniform gain, wide-gamut samples, overlap colors, layer toggles and mismatched previews.

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.37-win-x64-portable.zip.
  2. Extract the zip to a normal folder, for example C:\Apps\HdrImageViewer.
  3. Run HdrImageViewer.exe.

Requires the x64 .NET 10 Desktop Runtime and Windows App Runtime 2.2. No certificate installation is required for the portable zip. Windows may show a SmartScreen warning because this GitHub build is unsigned.

Recommended Install

For most users, install the Microsoft Store version so Windows handles signing and updates.

Bundled Format Tools

The x64 portable build includes the pinned JPEG XL, AVIF, HEIC, OpenEXR and Ultra HDR codecs and command-line tools. No separate MSYS2 installation is required for these formats.

JPEG Ultra HDR and HEIC / AVIF ISO Gain Map exports support monochrome and RGB gain maps. Codec versions and source checksums are recorded in eng/codecs.lock.json.

v1.0.36

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 06 Oct 08:55

1.0.36.0 - 2026-10-06

  • Rebuilt 1.0.36.0 with the Store package/application display name restored to HdrImageViewer; translated UI and all 12 language resources are retained. This avoids submitting unreserved localized product names.
  • Added WinUI localization for Simplified Chinese and 11 additional languages: English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Polish and Ukrainian. Viewer, settings and export UI now use localized resources; saved language preferences take effect after restart.
  • Added resource-key and format-placeholder consistency checks, Windows PRI loading checks and separate-process language regression coverage. Localization source scans exclude tooling worktrees and generated/dependency directories.
  • Updated libultrahdr to pinned source snapshot 66821e0a261aa3a06c0e7c889f52eced52850be1 after v2.0.2; this is not a new stable upstream release, and the CLI still reports v2.0.2. Removed local patches now fixed upstream and added clean-PATH JPEG/HEIC/AVIF Gain Map smoke checks at odd dimensions (33x17).

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.36-win-x64-portable.zip.
  2. Extract the zip to a normal folder, for example C:\Apps\HdrImageViewer.
  3. Run HdrImageViewer.exe.

v1.0.35

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Oct 07:54

1.0.35.0 - 2026-10-04

  • Folder stepping now skips files that fail to open instead of repeatedly retrying the same unsupported or corrupt image. Filmstrip previews prefer direct decoding over decorated shell thumbnails and correct provisional aspect ratios when final pixels arrive.
  • Unified viewer motion: panels enter with cubic deceleration and leave along the same path with cubic acceleration; interrupted motion resumes at its current position. Zoom follows rendering frames and elapsed time, including fit/fill/1:1 actions, and keeps swap-chain dimensions stable during gestures. Custom motion follows the system animation setting.
  • Kept the toolbar visible while hovered or keyboard-focused, stabilized filmstrip proportions before refined thumbnails arrive, and prepared decoded images before replacing the visible document. Image handoff no longer explicitly redraws the old image using the next image's layout.

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.35-win-x64-portable.zip.

Windows may show a SmartScreen warning because this GitHub build is unsigned.

v1.0.34

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Oct 06:03

1.0.34.0 - 2026-10-04

  • Fixed HDR filmstrip appearance: gain-map images now preview their authored SDR base instead of reconstructing maximum HDR gain and applying another fixed ACES curve. Single-layer HDR thumbnails use the viewer's SDR white reference and compress highlights with a shared RGB scale, preserving midtones and color ratios.
  • Fixed SDR JPEG XL thumbnails and transparent thumbnail pixels, including HDR JPEG XL. Linear floating-point JPEG XL now retains extended-range pixels through a float decode path instead of being decoded as SDR. Added real-file pixel comparisons against an independently decoded SDR base and equivalent PQ/HLG/linear samples.
  • Kept the filmstrip and toolbar on one row, with thumbnails sized to the available column. Hidden filmstrips stop decoding and release their images; refreshing a folder keeps provisional previews, and failed items are not decoded repeatedly while they remain in the retained window.
  • Corrected EXIF orientation handling for HDR/SDR exports and Gain Map crops. Linear TIFF/EXR exports avoid unused PQ statistics and preserve existing destinations on cancellation.
  • Moved preview analysis onto cancellable background work with stale-result protection, and cached tone-map analysis separately by view mode.
  • Hardened Live Photo preparation and image navigation against stale asynchronous results; canceled video extraction no longer leaves a partial cached file.

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.34-win-x64-portable.zip.
  2. Extract the zip to a normal folder, for example C:\Apps\HdrImageViewer.
  3. Run HdrImageViewer.exe.

v1.0.33

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Oct 06:32

1.0.33.0 - 2026-10-02

  • Added HEIC / AVIF ISO Gain Map export for single images, crops, and batch queues, with monochrome/RGB maps and verified HDR readback.
  • Fixed odd-dimension ISO Gain Map decoding and sRGB transfer tagging; automatic SDR bases are now correctly labeled Display P3.
  • Fixed the ImageMagick EXR fallback applying an extra gamma conversion to scene-linear samples.
  • Updated the pinned x64 codec stack to libultrahdr 2.0.2, libjxl 0.12.0, libavif 1.4.2, libheif 1.23.5, libde265 1.1.3 and OpenEXR 3.5.1, with updated supporting libraries and x265 4.3 multilib. Ultra HDR retains JPEG output with both XMP and ISO metadata.
  • Added checksum-verified codec restoration/build scripts, runtime dependency manifests and rollback backups. CI and release builds use the same codec lock. Native runtime copies no longer keep older executables simply because their file timestamps are newer.
  • Shared the assembly's native resolver between EXR and JPEG XL, supporting both MSVC and MinGW JPEG XL DLL names. Added application-level PQ/HLG export/decode and monochrome/RGB Ultra HDR round-trip checks.

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.33-win-x64-portable.zip.
  2. Extract the zip to a normal folder, for example C:\Apps\HdrImageViewer.
  3. Run HdrImageViewer.exe.

v1.0.32

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Sep 17:24

1.0.32.0 - 2026-09-23

  • Added a dedicated CIE 1931 xy chromaticity inspector with preview color density, optional sRGB / Display P3 / BT.2020 outlines, D65 reference and a pointer-linked sample marker. Extended scRGB components are preserved during coordinate conversion; black/invalid samples are omitted and stale sample markers are cleared. Includes attributed CIE observer data and coordinate regression tests.
  • Added a separate Analysis inspector with overlapping RGB histogram curves, an SDR-white boundary and HDR exposure-stop grid, preview luminance statistics and pixel sampling. Histogram channels share a square-root count axis; opening Analysis refreshes missing or stale data. Readings describe the display-mapped scRGB preview, not source-file or measured panel luminance.
  • Added draggable HDR/SDR comparison. Both comparison sides share the image viewport; analysis captures the HDR preview before comparison overlays. Inspector content reserves a gutter so overlay scrollbars do not cover charts or controls.
  • Added a serial batch export window with format/folder settings, per-file status, cancellation and retry for unfinished items. Failed files do not stop later items; generated output names preserve existing files. Closing the window cancels the in-memory queue.
  • Preserved existing destination files when export fails or is canceled: SDR crops, HDR exports and original-file copies now stage output beside the destination and replace it only after success. Ultra HDR re-probing happens before committing output, and save pickers no longer pre-delete destinations or create empty placeholders.
  • Added export cancellation and a ten-minute timeout for native CLI operations, with child-process cleanup. Gain-map crop export reads JPEG segments directly instead of duplicating the entire container in memory.
  • Native EXR/JXL integration tests now explicitly report missing prerequisites as skipped; set HDRVIEWER_REQUIRE_NATIVE_TESTS=1 to require them and fail on missing dependencies. Added regression coverage for destination preservation, staging cleanup, cancellation and native-process timeouts.

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.32-win-x64-portable.zip.

Optional Format Tools

Most common formats work out of the box. JPEG XL preview and some HDR export formats use external command-line tools when they are available.

Install optional tools with MSYS2 UCRT64:

winget install --id MSYS2.MSYS2 --source winget
C:\msys64\usr\bin\pacman.exe -Syu --noconfirm
C:\msys64\usr\bin\pacman.exe -S --needed --noconfirm mingw-w64-ucrt-x86_64-libjxl mingw-w64-ucrt-x86_64-libavif mingw-w64-ucrt-x86_64-libheif

Restart HDR Image Viewer after installing. The app auto-detects tools in C:\msys64\ucrt64\bin and also checks PATH.

  • JPEG XL preview: jxlinfo.exe and djxl.exe from libjxl.
  • JPEG XL / AVIF / HEIC HDR export: cjxl.exe, avifenc.exe, and heif-enc.exe when installed.
  • Ultra HDR JPEG export: advanced users can place ultrahdr_app.exe on PATH.

v1.0.31

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 09 Sep 11:54

1.0.31.0 - 2026-09-09

  • Fixed crop export to calculate SDR preview bounds from the source image's oriented pixel dimensions instead of a potentially stale HDR renderer texture. Crop bounds are now centrally clamped for landscape and portrait images, and failed or duplicate crop saves now report a clear dialog without starting overlapping exports.
  • Stabilized the shared-operation cancellation regression test used by the release build so it waits for the operation to register its cancellation callback before canceling its final waiter.

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.31-win-x64-portable.zip.
  2. Extract the zip to a normal folder, for example C:\Apps\HdrImageViewer.
  3. Run HdrImageViewer.exe.

v1.0.30

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Sep 13:29

1.0.30.0 - 2026-09-02

  • Sized the HDR swap chain to the visible preview viewport instead of the zoomed logical image, and pan/zoom now update shader ImageLayout without ResizeBuffers.
  • Restored follow-the-finger zoom: wheel, pinch, and zoom buttons scale the current HDR frame around the pointer, then re-render the sharp crop after the gesture settles.
  • When the image is smaller than the window, the HDR surface is centered at image size so the canvas keeps the page background instead of turning black.
  • Zoom no longer scales the SwapChainPanel with a XAML transform; covering zooms update ImageLayout from the intended scroll offset so the frame does not clip to black or flash on commit.
  • Dragging a zoomed image now redraws ImageLayout on each pointer move so the HDR frame follows the cursor instead of waiting for a coalesced scroll event.
  • A click after zooming no longer treats a stale zero scroll offset as a pan, which previously jumped the crop and looked like a sudden extra zoom.
  • The HDR surface now matches the visible image intersection, so zooming until only one axis overflows keeps the page canvas instead of painting black letterbox bars.
  • Cached DXGI/EDID display capability per monitor so zoom and slider updates do not re-enumerate adapters.
  • Wired FolderImageIndexCache into folder navigation and removed the leftover per-image forced Gen-2 GC.
  • Shared adjacent-image preloads now cancel through SharedAsyncOperation instead of the first caller's token.

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.30-win-x64-portable.zip.
  2. Extract the zip to a normal folder, for example C:\Apps\HdrImageViewer.

v1.0.29

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 21 Jul 02:45

1.0.29.0 - 2026-07-21

  • Added a Windows-style image context menu with Save As, Copy, Copy as Path, File Info, and recycle-bin Delete actions, including the matching keyboard shortcuts. Copy publishes both bitmap and storage-item clipboard formats for direct pasting into PowerPoint, File Info toggles the existing inspector without replaying its show animation, and deletion safely selects an adjacent image or clears the viewer when no images remain.

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.29-win-x64-portable.zip.

v1.0.28

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 15 Jul 20:33

1.0.28.0 - 2026-07-16

  • Made 1:1 zoom use the original image resolution: selecting Actual Size now upgrades the current D3D image or Ultra HDR primary image from the capped preview decode to a full-resolution texture before calculating zoom, while normal viewing and adjacent preloading retain their bounded decode sizes. The renderer also tracks decode detail so returning to an image or resizing the window cannot silently reuse an undersized texture.

Install

  1. Download HdrImageViewer-1.0.28-win-x64-portable.zip.
  2. Extract the zip to a normal folder, for example C:\Apps\HdrImageViewer.
  3. Run HdrImageViewer.exe.
